you are right Pixie - Andy that glad is amazing...it almost looks like silk it's so perfect!
What's Growing, Part 4
unfortunately - I don't have the names of any of my Lilies...I was never into the names until I joined DG.
Wow Al! My Dahlia's are just starting to wake up too...I'm hoping by the weekend...
Al ~ I love the peachy pink against the yellow. Just beautiful!
I have at least another month...was late in planting mine. Bad girl..bad, bad, bad.
Iris & Pixie, You are right about centerfold. Thanks.
Al I really like Seattle! Mind if I post a picture of it as from my garden? I actually don't have a garden at at all. I just travel to other DGers homes and sneak pictures of their gardens.
You guys have a LOT of daylilies! I was thinking about a "wet willy" contest to see who brings in the most spent daylily flowers in a day. Stupid idea or possible fun?
Dave - anything to make you look good I say!
That's right. I need all the help I can get!
Zowie!!! Al - does Dave have alot of these?? They are beautiful. So Dave, when you tell me you are out in the garden...you are actually at other people's houses???
[whispering] I won't tell Gram
crockny, Nice rambling rose and mini hollyhocks!
Pixie, The scapes on Wayside are over 2 ft tall. It does seem like thats whats yours is. I can relate to how hard it is to keep track of whats what in the beds seeing you have 11 beds ( I have well over 11 and have a real hard time sometimes! lol) I think I will go get moonlight Masqurade (sp) this Sunday, It 'Is' a really pretty DL! And it was only $8 for a nice double fan.
I was so thrilled today to find my Siloam Doodle Bug, I looked through the beds the other day and didn't find it but I found it today and can't wait for it to bloom!!
I'm glad we got the GD straightened out, I'm pretty mello with words ( Unless I'm really tee'd off lol)
I think that's so special for your gd to plant her own plants and get to see them bloom later, She's off to a good start!! She already knows which green house to go to when she needs more now! LOL!
bigcityal, Seattle looks like it's quite the sight wow!!
Anita, A lot of mine don't have names either, I didn't much care about the names untill I joined DG too.
Dave, Your Quite Welcome! ( I wouldn't have known the name though had it not ben for Pixie posting her Centerfold Lilly) ~
About the 'wet-willy', I for one would not want to count /measure them in a bucket, I just want to pick the spent blooms off and not have to think about it at all lol
Ok, Gotta post this so I can go back and check out a few photos a little better ( Sometimes I forget what I looked at and I can't look at it again because I'll lose everything I typed if I do) I'll Be Back!
SK, Beautifull glad!
Anita, That was a really nice colage! I really liked the bottom left photo view of some of the garden!
Grampapa, Your 'last' DL is a real pretty one, I have one almost exactly like it but the outer petals are more of a peachy color ( I think I like the yellow in your better)
Sheee ( I wont tell either!)
Thank you Iris!
Your Welcome Anita!
pixie you have some collection. How big is your property?
Anita ~ I only use 2 acres for flowers out of 5. There is 50 more acres out back that is owned by Auntie. She is 82 and still mowes her front lawn and a small portion of the back (her choice not mine!!) we take care of the rest. We are actually in the process of buying 30 acres off her and leaving her w/15 to go w/the house should she need to sell it. We live across the street from the lake so she would still get a good price for the house. We want to build a log cabin home out back w/a pond to retire in. The kids can have this house as its has nine rooms and we don't need all that space anymore. I actually only own about 150 different daylilies, but I bet I have half that in perinnials.
WOW! All that wonderful gardening space....
ONLY 2 acres, and ONLY 150 different daylilies LOL, pixie. I'd have to take out my driveway to have enough space to plant that many.
and three of my neighbor's homes!
Well I have trees too....apple, pear, plum and cherry. Then there's the veggie garden, I have 5 children ages 18-28 and not one of them grows a veggie garden. Why should they when Mom plants enough for them and the neighbors!
I'm a farm girl in a suburbanite's body! My great Uncle always said I should have lived on a farm. [His farm, 'cause I loved helping when I went to visit]
Back the truck up here...I think I'm more interested in how you find the time to do it all than in how much space you have. take out the driveway and hire me a crew!
In the first picture, a bit to the left it looks like a hill, it actually slopes down to a huge field.
Pixie, Happy that you got the name on Wayside, It always helps when you can eventually figure them out, I keep a record now of what I have so if I lose a tag I can usually figure out what it is when it blooms, But for some, The name will probably never be found. I like the collage you made of the DL's above, And the individual photo's are nice! I really like Rockys Eye and Desert Song, Chicargo Hierloom looks so pretty with the four open like that, I had just purchased Flutterbye this year and I really like it.
A log cabin home with a pond would be great to retire in, And having all that land to build it on sure helps, I Wish you The best when you decide to build it!
