The Sluggy Files 3: Sluggy Meets Mrs. Corry's

Olympia, WA(Zone 8b)

Sluggy says, "Well, here I am, another night seeking out Gardner Bluelytes tasty plants. But this vertical wall climb up this concrete block wall is killing me." Little does Sluggy suspect that his climb is only the START of his problems this night, Muahahhahah!!

Sluggy thinks, "Its kinda lonely out here. Wonder where all the other slugs are. Maybe there will be a lovely girly slug up there on top." Yes, Sluggy, there IS a girl up on top of the wall. C'mon on up and meet her. She is wearing a lovely red, yellow, and white outfit.

Yes, Sluggy, there is a girl, just above you. Let me introduce you to Mrs. Corry's. She really LIKES slugs and snails. ;)

Mrs. Corry's says, "Hey Sluggy!! Lemme come down and say "Hello".

Sluggy suspects something as he says, "Mrs. Corry's, Mrs. Corry's...." Sluggy taps his forehead and thinks to himself, (Kind of like how Chekov did in Star Trek 2: The Wrath Of Kahn as he recalled the 'Botony Bay') WHERE have I HEARD that name, Mrs. Corrys before. But, being a slug, Sluggy's brain processes things a bit SLOWLY, and he finds himself in a box canyon of Mrs. Corry's creation.

lol blue...I just love your sluggo series. I always think of this guy that worked for me and when he saw slugs, he had that container of salt out and the chair pulled up and went to work-he was just fascinated by the splitting that occurred.

I have to admit that we all watched some too...

I don't think the slugs think I am too kind! The way you present it, it reminds me of the " Mr. Bill " from SNL-did you ever see that?

When are you going to do the snail series? I think they deserve a moment in the spotlight as well! While I hate to touch slugs-hate that slimey feeling that persists, I will easily crush snails between my fingers without a thought! Maybe I could participate in the snail show.....hastening to add that I don't want to step on your creative director toes! lol aren't we so stupid...I love it

TIGE,
Feel free to do your own take. And Yes, re: Mr. Bill. TOUCH them, EEEWWW!! WHY would you EVER TOUCH one?? Specially when you have a perfectly good SALT SHAKER handy?? Participate away, but it IS copyrighted, and I will give you addy to send your royalty checks to soon, ;) :) LOLROF

Blue - Several years ago I taught a summer class at the zoo on "The Zoo in Your Backyard". Slugs were a part of the class. I showed how they could actually crawl along the edge of glass without getting cut. How they were both male and female (hermaphrodites) and we even watched some lay eggs from the vent near their head. Really quite fascinating creatures - scientifically, of course. On the last day of class, I gave each student a couple of slugs to take home with them. They were sooo excited. You should have seen the faces of the parents that came to pick them up! Now that was funny!

Blue - my brother is a scientist - he turned me on to another way to deal with slugs:
Mix ammonia to water @ about 1 part Ammonia to 12 - 15 parts h20, (mixed in a container with a spray nozzle). I adjust the nozzle to a fine stream, and do target practice. I try not to hit the plants (but some do not mind at all) just hit the slug, which will typically knock it off the plant - this is the first priority, death being the second. My bro told me that the same results can be achieved with other substances, such as vinegar (but requires different ratios). Apparently, the substance changes the ph balance of their outer layer.
Enjoy!

Oh, she will!! :-D

Oh, yes. I had to handle those slugs. That slimy stuff comes off on your hands, and you have to wash and wash and wash - and it gets under your fingernails. No wonder they don't cut themselves when cruising along the edge of glass.
