Grab a cup, pour yourself some coffee, and let's sit and talk about plans for celebrating tomorrow.

Coffee...and for July 3,2006
So I screwed up again, how I got the hyperlink to go to an e-mail is beyond me. Okay, so try to ignore this and let's talk.
So some of you computer wizards figure this one out for me.

Hi ... Here you go!
We came from over here ...
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/621574/
Y'all have a great day!
Wow, Awesome pics. we finally got rain here at last. My four o clocks came up and all is growing like crazy, even the weeds. I am having my gang over tomorrow for a family hoe down. Kids will go swimming. tonite at our big city park fireworks and all the trimmings so we will invade that to. I am taking my coffee and going outside i love to walk around in my garden and listen to the birds and just savor the day. Happy 4th to all. Corky and tribe
Morning everyone...slept like a log last night- only awakening a couple of times to check the clock then rolled over and snoozed again - very untypical for me!!
defoe - I feel your pain!!! I am such a bumbler - I still cannot get pics posted...I've tried for literally hours and nothing. So frustrating...I can't get my stupid computer to resize the pics and when I try sending them the size I took them, they don't go thru (after 15 min of waiting, I give up!!)
I've read the 5 days I've missed - chatty bunch of folks for sure. Of course CRS has hit, so I'll pass on trying to make comments.
corky, my 4 o'clocks are blooming like crazy already. They are one of my favorite flowers as they bloom non stop. Mine are all a fushia pink - my white ones haven't bloomed yet. A couple of years ago I planted the broken colored ones- they were neat too!
We are still suffering a terrible drought here - absolutely no rain to speak of - a drop here or there, but nothing to soak into the ground. I need to get the sprinkers on soon.
ernie - beautiful flowers - a riot of colors!! I see your watering wand there, you are a good flower papa. And of course cut me a piece of pie!!
Well, time for me to try to post pics again. If it doesn't work, I'm off outside!!
Great pictures! The lilies are beautiful, Kooger, and Ernie's wheelbarrow and deck are stunning! What a treat to wake up to such beauty!! The bargain basement lilies that I put down near the poison trees (that awful pair of black walnut trees that create such a challenge) have been blooming, but slowly. A few at a time. Maybe next year they'll look better but it looks pretty sparse now. That whole area is trial and error.
I have three different lists from universities and clubs that I've used for plants that are supposed to be hardy there, and have been successful with only a few. And shrub roses which aren't recommended which we transplanted from the front berm are thriving! Go figure!
No big doings here for the fourth, we stay off the roads and watch the fireworks from the surrounding communities from the deck! The really big display is down at the lake front at Summerfest, (the world's largest music festival, they say) but you can't get near it unless you go down early in the day, and then you leave in a traffic jam. No thanks!
It's been running every summer for thirty years...this year they wanted to get more older people (over 60) to come back, so they advertised that they had "special attractions" for them........like Bingo! LOL Some young marketing genius must have thought that one up. We went there then to hear rock and roll, and some C&W bands from the 70s. It's gotten rowdy in the past few years, bringing in hiphop and rap and drawing a younger crowd. Don't think too many of us Old Folks will show up for Bingo!
Sarv, welcome back! Did you get that big wind the other day? What's for breakfast? We're going out with DH's buddy, his treat. About time, I've been feeding him for years! More pictures, please!
Your rig was indeed a parade, that would have made me nervous, too! Glad you are home safe and sound.
Dmcd, how was he Oklahoma production? Love those old musicals! We have a dinner theatre down the road a bit that does that sort of thing, they just finished Evita, so a new one is in the offing. Don't know yet what it is. They have very good food so it's a fun outing. Of course, for me, any outing involving food is fun ...LOL
Kooger and Bonnie, what sad situations, those poor babies! I hope it all works out for the best. The little innocents are the ones who suffer the most through all the upheavals.
Darius, that new home is just the berries! So many things to do, and so many opportunities for planting, and updating and in spite of the massive amount of work involved, SO exciting! Wish we could all come out there en masse and give you a hand! How did the 14 yr old do on the window washing? Reminded me I need to take my screens off and vacuum off the cottonwood fuzz. Mine are on the inside of the windows, which is delightful for Olivia, as she likes to climb them. With luck, she'll stop doing that soon before she gets heavy enough to make holes for the mosquitos to come in. Any word on sale prospects for your DS's house? I love that bridge, but it must be a real PITA trying to get deliveries. I wouldn't have thought that one out either.
I'd better get myself in the shower and make myself presentable. After breakfast there's more weeds waiting, and I need to get some fertilizer on the areas I didn't hit last week. See y'all later.
Sheila
Hi all
A spectacular day here-I'll savor every minute.
The Oklahoma production was wonderful = it's at a summer music colony, don't know why we waited so long to go (well, yes, it was kids and their schedules). I love the old musicals too. I saw Show boat on Broadway and wish I could go every year. Loved Annie Get Your Gun too - went to that twice. I love Bernadette Peters.
sarv- Didn't realize we stole all your rain. It wasn't my idea! I would have kept my hands over my eyes the whole time I was in that rig!
eweed-your planters are wonderful, wish you could email me a few quarts of cherries!
kooger-Loved the bouquet!
defoecat-I guess I won't get haying equipment if we can find someone to cut. Around here anyone who does haying is a much older guy - and it's a dying breed. Course, there's less hayfields all the time too. I hope to keep my fields at the farm open, but it's not a huge amount of hayfield. I really enjoyed mowing yesterday. (weird, huh?)
I'd better get cleaned up too. My brother from Texas is coming for a few days with his 18 yr old son. Hope we have good weather. Schroon Lake does a big 4th - although we're only a little over a mile from the town, I'll avoid it. It's become a mob scene.
Whew, that was close!!! I forgot to renew my subscription yesterday and today was my last day!! But now I'm good to go for another year of fun, games and good information with all my friends here.
I will catch up with you later, but right now I better get back out in the yard before it gets to hot to breathe.
I will take my Mom shopping and trim her hair this afternoon, then back home to play with making paper for her and maybe play around with my own Christmas card ideas. At least its cool in the craft room.
No plans for the 4th except to survive the heat. I have heard rumors of possible rain for Wed and Thur, so ya'll keep your fingers crossed for us. Meanwhile, I will gladly pay postage if someone will mail me some rain!
ginni
Decided I'd join everyone for coffee. Was out deadheading weeding but it has decided to rain on me so I guess thats out for now. haven't read coffee shop for sat and sun. DH was home ALL weekend and he doesn't like the computer much. Teenagers were okay with it cause they didn't have mm kicking them off. Acutally its the first weekend full weekend he's had off in quite sometime so I enjoyed having him home. Went to summerfest on Saturday. I don't know why I put myself through that every year. People get together like that and lose all consideration and politeness for all. Its I'm here now get out of my way. I keep thinking that this year will be different but it never is. No big plans for the fourth. We usually have a backyard party and barbecue but after last weekends party its someone elses turn to cook for three days supply all the food all the drinks and the major cleanup that always is involved. My angel in the rose garden got broken (both wings) and no one bothered saying uh, I broke it . My newest garden got trampled over for a football and horseshoes in my wild flowers.
Opps sorry, I'm whining, don't mean to be, only my gardens my flowers are the most relaxing and rewarding things and I put them there. Thats my accomplishment. Then some person adult or kid damages them. Burns me up. I'll quit complaing and just drink my cooffee and be quiet. Cherie

Well, I have been up for some time, drinking coffee and reading the paper. I have a big kettle of broken green beans to start on when I get dressed. I wish all of you would show up at DH's garden, and pick as many green beans as you want. That way, it would be less for me to deal with. These I will can for DMIL, as she is not able to do it.
Ernie, pretty planting, I suggest that you let each of us have it for a couple of weeks so that we can make our neighbors envious. LOL
M5, vacuuming screens?,, geesh, I don't even wash windows except 2 times a year.
Well, can't comment to everyone, so guess I better get busy with these beans,
I will be back later.
return to my trip (maybe...)
This is a pic of the dunes we went to - awesome place - national park. There were signs telling you only to go down and back up if you were in good medical shape. There were ropes to throw to help out!!
I used my head and didn't go down them - the younger members all did and came up whipped. One kid had to be helped up the final part and was practically sobbing. Stupid....youth! LOL
It was gorgeous to sit and watch others
Sarv,
I was at Sleeping Bear, but not since I was a little girl. I sure don't remember it from that perspective. I do remember almost drowning that day tho, slipped into the deep water off a sand bar. My Uncle Louie pulled me out. Wonderful photo, you are doing great!!!!
I was under the weather yesterday. Not sick, just out of sorts, so I wallowed in it. Watched Lifetime movies and waited for it to rain last night. It did.
I spent quite a while sorting and putting seeds in envelops. Some of my gaillardia germinated in the glad dish. Took me by surprise! Guess I should put them out in pots until they are big enough to put in the ground.
Today I think I need to put the film on my windows and get started on painting the kitchen cabinets. Now that is a big job. Need to take the doors and the hardware all off. It's gonna take at least 1 coat of primer and 1 coat finish paint. So it's a good thing Jeremy is not here. He would want to cook something greasey in the kitchen. No danger of me doing any cooking. heehee.
Molly
:^)))
Hi Folks,
Catching up with what you all wrote after I signed off last night.
Elaine (McCool) and Sheila, I'm glad you feel secure enough in this community to mention what you really think. I really think it's much sadder when people follow along with the crowd rather than thinking about the issues and following their own conscience.
Bonnie - we could trade. I'll edge and you weed. I didn't say I had mine weeded yet. LOL
Kooger - lovely lilies. I have a few, but I'm not encourageing them because I can't keep up with the European Lily beatle which now munches away on them.
Ernie, your wheel barrow (and other flowers) are gorgeous! I'll have a piece of the cherry pie for lunch. thanks.
Sarv - after your comments about 4 o'clocks I can hardly wait for mine to bloom. They are getting larger daily. But I've got peppers mixed in. When they were smaller, I got the plants mixed up and after I realized I had planted the peppers with them, I still couldn't tell them apart for awhile. some of the peppers I'll try moving. Others I'll just leave mixed in and see what happens.
dmc - the summer music colony to which to went - has it been around a long time? I have really vagure recollections from my childhood of having attended something in that neck of the woods.
ginni - glad you got renewed in time.
Sarv - where are those lovely dunes? Lake Michigan or further afield?
Well, I've been out to aquafit and coffee after. Probably the only time I'll get there this week. DH went to the church (Camp Awesome) to meet the kids and get their luggage from their Mom. I'll got back with or w/o hime to pick them up at 3. Now, I've got to move stuff around and get their sleeping arrangements ready. Also have laundry to hang out. Possibility of a thunder storm this afternoon; so hopefully I'll get everything out and dry before. Then there are three bathrooms to clean, a kitchen table to unload - it gets half covered with stuff with just two of us here. And I want to finish mulching the front gardens.

Opps made a little mistake the pie I am having right now with my coffee is not Marias recipet but is her recipet for the crust which is wonderful very thin and flakey you should ask her for it lol it rocks.
Devoe ok your two weeks with the wheel barrow starts now come get it and pass it on lol. Glad you like it enought to want to share.LOL hope you share your beans to after they are snapped and simmered with generous amounts of bacon and onions with a bit of sugar and vinagar.
Sarv good flower papa lol well today I am installing a fertilizer injector to feed the drip irragation I did for the forty hanging baskets on the back of the house. It will deliver a minute amount of water soluble fertilizer every time we water. It was 89 bucks and as usual I found it on the inter net for 56 after I bought it lol.
Laura, wonderful lilies!
Sarv, love the dunes. We used to go to the small ones on the NC coast where the Wright Bros. monument is.
Had my CT Scan this am, won't know results for some time. Then had a full round of pulmonary function tests... twice because the computer didn't 'save' the data. Despite regulations against it, the tech said my tests looked good and I didn't have to get a breathing treatment afterwards!
M5, the 14 year old girl never showed to wash windows. Guess she didn't want those new shoes very much.
I'm off to Abingdon to the Benj. Moore paint store and hope to get my bedroom floor painted so I can move my mattress from the living room and the frame from the front porch. Actually moved a lot of stuff off the front porch yesterday... some to the pantry after we got shelves up in there, and a lot of it to the back porch, LOL.
Erie,
I love those pink cosmos. For some reason I ended up with the orangey red ones this year, but no pinks. Maybe I'll have some pinks next year.
But my cosmos have already thrown off new seeds and I have a whole new batch of plants coming up already. That's so exciting!
Molly

Hi everyone!
Well, I thought noone was chatting on coffee today, b/c I keep forgetting to mark the thread. Didn't have to do that when I was posting the link. Guess I got spoiled. LOL
Hi sarv!! Great to have you back! Sounds like you had a very nice trip. I would have opted to sit on the sidelines also. They'd have *definitely* had to pull me up! LOL I thought about you every day at breakfast and wondered what you were having. ;)
Defoe, wish I could help out with those beans. I'd sure be glad to cook a big mess of them and get them out of your way! :-)
Ginni so glad you got your membership renewed in time. Whew, that was close!
Ernie, I did so love your wheel barrel! Like the idea of sharing it. LOL Please let me know when my turn is.
Well, the DH just came in from working in the yard. Better go feed him before he starts growling! LOL Hi to all those I've missed!

Wasn't planning to be back so soon, but (with apologies to the couple of men on this list), I thought you'd enjoy this - just in from a friend.

Vi - LOL good one!! The dunes are the sleeping bear dunes - wonder of nature!! Molly, the pic was taken at an overlook that I'd never been to before. Can't believe they have changed so much too - I was there about 8 yrs ago.
One day we spent kayaking down the Platte River to Lake Michigan (biggest inland lake in the US) I was a little apprehensive as I don't like closed in spaces, so I rented a bigger kayak that had an opening so I could escape if needed!! We were kayaking for a little over 2 hrs. Good thing I had been working out with weights for the past year (although looking at the hunk of flab hanging on my arm bout made me sick LOL) the constant paddling was a major workout!!
IO1 - we didn't have breakfast until 11am every day - about drove me crazy. I like to get up at 5 and eat by 6. DIL family sleeps in and then makes elaborate breakfasts. Dinner wasn't until 8pm or later!! Oh my...
One day we visited a winery. All their wines/juices were made of cherries (we were in the cherry growing area of Mich) I sampled all wines and juices and ended up buying a jug of the cherry juice. It was delish and I wanted to have it to compare to the juice I am going to make.
Next door was a place that had everything made of cherries- cookies, fudge, candy, jams, dips, trail mix etc. We sampled everything and by the end of the day, I didn't care if I ever saw another cherry!!
This is a pic of some of us in front of the winery - beautiful gardens there too!! The short, square gal is a deaf family member - and a major hoot. She talks a lot with sign language. When we got done with the winery, she was on the sidewalk imitating the 'walk the line' test they give you. She isn't a drinker either, plus has diabetes (and doesn't watch her diet!!)
Sarv,
I AM SO PROUD OF YOU!!!!!! You took pictures and you posted them, and you were in a couple. We have waited a long time for this day.
:^)))))
Molly
and after I planted it up with Hibicius, Snow on the Mountain, Everblooming Gardina, Giant Dahila,Penta,Summer Poinsettia and some Zinnas for color now....There is more but I am having a CRS moment....
Ahhh Hah, I remembered, also Potentilla, and Lantana...

meezers , now thats scary.. thanks thats good one to..
Kudos to Sarv!!!
Hi everyone. Welcome back Sarv. See, we kept telling you it was easy to do pictures!
Elaine, you should know that shutting this bunch of gabbers up would be like trying to stop a train, so if we come up missing again you will know that we are just yacking away waiting for you to remember to watch the thread.
Darius, it sounds like pretty good news on the tests even though it isn't official. Your health is so much better since you moved out of the radon rental.
Today I helped my neighbor with cattle. We brought them to the corrals, sorted them, branded and eartaged a few calves, then drove them up the road about 5 miles to a new pasture. It is hot out there, we got a late start and should have been getting them to their destination about the time we started to move them. So the trip up the road was slower than usual. Cows move at about 2 miles per hour. Nope, it's not like the movies!
Did anybody hear if they launched the space shuttle? I heard that yesterday's launch was cancelled due to weather. I would just turn on our tv to find out, but there is something wrong with it. Hubby thinks we need to borrow a really tall apple picking ladder that a neighbor has and trim some branches that hang down in front of the sattelite dish.
Pretty flowers, Kooger, and Ernie. I need to grow some cosmos, my neighbor has them and they are so pretty. Hers reseed and plant themselves so they pop up in unexpected places. Her flower beds are kind of a cottage garden style, so a few stray cosmos here and there blend right in. I rode past her place on the way up the road with the cattle and again on my way home, it is so pretty. She has a delphinium in bloom, oh wow, what a great centerpiece for a flower garden! I think I need one of those.
Lauri, good job on the before and after flower bed. I have several of those ugly spots that got no attention since last year. I was looking at one daylily bed that is in pretty good shape except I can sure see the need for fertilizer. I think I'll go give them a booster of liquid stuff while I'm thinking about it, and see if they snap out of their lethargy.
Time to go pull weeds and see what needs to be watered. Have a nice evening.
Home again, home again, Jiggity Jig.
Had to settle for oil based floor paint or drive 100 miles to the next closest Benj. Moore paint store or else use cheap paint. Came home and finished the primer on the hallway and the to-be office where I haven't yet taken out the closet. Still have to cut in the floor edges in the office, but should be able to start the floor paint tomorrow. It's sorta a blue-gray. I think I can live with it a year if we have to, until we can afford new flooring.
Should get my bedroom furnishings in Thursday if I stay on task. My helper for tomorrow called and wants to go to a cookout, so his working is out of the question. I probably will work all day... no friends here yet hence no invites. I do plan on a mini-cookout all to myself!
Got some swiss chard and red bell peppers planted in the mini-garden. More plants yet to go!
Bought half a bushel of freestone peaches today. In the midst of all this moving chaos, I need to make Peach Melba Jam while I can get fresh peaches. The price was DEAR... $20 for half a bushel. I can only find black raspberries locally and Peach Melba needs red raspberries for the looks. May have to buy frozen ones. Yuck.
Lauri, new work looks great!
Casey, WHERE ARE YOU?
Say Goodnight, Gracie....
At a friends house and just had to ask her to let me pop in to say HI and I miss you all horribly. I will be home soon. Hope all is well.
Miss you all
Casey
Hi folks,
Well, two sleeping cherubs are downstairs. They were so zonked after the first day of Camp Awesome that they ASKED to go to bed at 7:30. The washer is full of clothes I'll have to check to see if the poster paint came out. Included some of DH's clothing as well as the kids. Amy was quite happy at camp, but Nolan is always a bit less sure of himself and DH hung around until nearly noon. So he manged to get covered in poster paint as well. The kids painted clay flowerpots. I think I'll see if I can varnish them and plant them with something for their Mom.
We had a horrendous thunder storm around dinner time and so much for my neatly edged garden. I looked out the window as the water carried much of the mulch into the lawn - mostly from one of the front downspouts. Will have to look at rechannelling the water somewhere else. We also have water in our new basement - seems to have come in the joint where a new foundation was added in 1991. Have never had problems with it before, but I suspect the soil is thoroughly waterlogged. Anyway, nothing there to be damaged except a scrap of the same cheap carpet that we are replacing in the porch. But we'll have to keep an eye on it.
Sarv, thanks for the pictures. You're getting good at it. Do you know sign language? I'm afraid I was a sign language class drop-out. Both parents of DSIL are deaf and I tried to take a class when he and DD got engaged.
I've been trying to find a good time to get together with a friend for lunch (for months now). We thought it would be this week, but I thought there might be last day of camp activities which parents would want to attend. So I asked at the church only to find that those activities are really just taking part in Sunday's service. Which means, that all the music will be looked after by Camp Awesome. So I'm off the hook for music on Sunday. Glad I found out before I made final selection and practiced with the organist. Seems that Worship Committee didn't talk to Music Director before she put out her summer sign-up. I'm still on for July 23, but I think I'll find someone to play viola duos with me. I tried for a quartet, but 2 people had other committments.
Well, if I spend some time reading, I can probably finish off DaVinci Code this evening. Think I'll go try.
Ann
Hi Casey,
Good to hear from you. Look forward to hearing more when you get home.
Ann
Hi all
Well, things are sure different when you have the DH aroung for 3 or 4 days! LOL I *do* love having him here but LOL I can't get anything done ... if you know what I mean. ??? We grilled burgers for supper but waited until it cooled off so had a very late supper. Boy is it ever hot out. Had our first sugar crunch cucumber that I grew from seed. Got to find the right forum so I can be sure to get some more of those seeds. If you haven't tried them ... I highly recommend them. They are excellent!
Darius, sounds like you've been very busy, but things are really shaping up in your part of the world :-) Mmmmm Peach Melba Jam sounds delicious!
sarv, looks like you've got the hang of posting those pics. Keep em coming!! Love hearing all about it. Is there a lot of difference between just plain ole cherry and black cherry? I eat a black cherry yogurt every day. Just love the stuff! LOL
Ann, when you get finished weeding for defoe ... just come on way down south ... there's plenty here for you to do! LOL That's why I garden in containers. I just leave the rest for the DH. Sad to say ... but they're taking over! LOL
Well, know I haven't done a very good job responding tonight but I really did read and loved it all. Guess CRS has set in for the night. :-( Please accept my regrets to those I've missed.
One thing I *would* like to say is ... you all know how I feel as far as my faith is concerned ... but I certainly have never meant to step on anyone's toes or try to cram it down anyone's throat here at coffee. If I've ever come across in an otherwise loving manner ... I'd like to take this opportunity to sincerely opologize. If I've forced my views on this public forum, I'm sorry ... but I'm just me. :-)
Hugs all way round SE
