Lasagna garden question

U.P., MI(Zone 5a)

Hi everyone,
I am a pretty new gardener and this is my first time doing a lasagne garden. I have the newspaper, manure, peat moss, plants and top soil, so I'm almost ready to go. I read somewhere that you can also put in grass clipping so here's what I'm wondering. I have a metal garbage can that I have been filling with weeds, grass, leaves, fruit and veggie peelings, coffee ground etc. I was thinking of putting that on a tarp and giving composting a try. Now that I'm doing my lasagne garden do you think I shoild just do a layer with all stuff. I worry that the weeds and grass in there might sprout in my flower bed.
Any ideas on this?
Thanks in advance :)

I would'nt put that green in until it's well composted. Use 6 sheet or more layers of news paper and wet them, then layer on top. I only use the paper for the bottom layer and it really works. You don't have to do anything to the ground before you start although I did mow. Hope that helps.

Hi Sidney,
Thanks, that's kind of what I was thinking.

You can put in leaves and grass (so long as the grass doesn't have a bunch of seed heads) into the lazagna layers, but I would hold off on putting in the leaves until they have turned to compost.

I did a small lasagna bed last year and put in lots of fresh green stuff, but I put it all on my bottom layer so there was quite a bit of already composted material, peat moss, and mulch over the top of it. It seemed to work fine because I haven't had too many weeds in it.
