Variegated Cuban Oregano Plectranthus amboinicus Solid White

Deep East Texas, TX(Zone 8a)

My plant (potted) is producing some solid white stems/leaves. There are two small stalks which are completely white. They are in the sun. If I root the white stems, will it stay white?

I don't know the answer to your question. Just wanted to say how pretty the plant is. Very unusual.

Thanks, the oregano smells a bit strong for my taste but I love the feel of the leaves and, in small doses, the smell. It is easy to root and grow as any of the plectranthus family.

no they will die. albino leaves have no chlorophil, which is required for photosythesis.

Oh, that's sad.

Vossner, Thank you, I will leave them as is and marvel at them. This is the first year they have done this. I wonder what I did that may have affected it.

I have many varieties of plecs and most will throw a white sport now and again. They do it just for your enjoyment Lol! Here is P. madagascariensis with a sport.

The pleasure IS mine. Wonder where the term sport comes from. Your plectranthus is more than lovely. Thanks for the info.

Just means different. In bloodstock it would mean a "different" animal that you kept just for pleasure (sport) since it did not have the right characteristics for breeding. As far as plants go they are sterile and not for breeding at all.

Sport: Biology An organism that shows a marked change from the normal type or parent stock, typically as a result of mutation.

Would be wonderful if it would stay that way! Lin

podster you did nothing. It is just Mother Nature being weird and wonderful. Enjoy your plants. And you, too, beware of those snakes leaping out of shrubs, hee hee......

Snakes everywhere I look, here's a white furry one... Odd, it is by the dwarf "snake plant"?
