Praying Mantis Buddies

Sykesville, MD(Zone 7b)

Last year I had four big praying mantis' in the front garden bed. I noticed that all the garden pests disappeared while they were around. My little buddies would follow me around as I'd garden. ( very cool )I even named them. I actually was kinda sad when they died! < sniff, sniff> Well, they left six "baby sacs" in my dusty millers. I cut them off and placed them under a bush for the winter. In spring, I placed one in each garden bed. I had forgotten about them until I started seeing tiny mantis babies all over the place. My gardens had been getting eaten alive this summer by bugs... but NOT ANYMORE! Ortho, take a back seat! You have been outdone ! =)

A praying mantis' sounds really scary......... we dont really get many scary bugs in england, about the scariest (I think anyway) is a big flying stag beetle (shudder) which drop out of trees as you walk by...... and I am not really sure what they do for the environment eihter!

I love praying mantis! I wish that I could encourage more in my yard. I only see one or two here and there, and I need many many more! They aren't scary at all. I think they are beautiful, and I love the work they do for me.
