Where do YOU keep your Hoyas?

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

This is the inner portion of the shade house. What you can't see is two more complete rows of hoya hanging on the outside edges.

I feel like men in little white suits should come and take me away. This is totally crazy, isn't it?

I NEED MORE HOYA....haaaaaa haaaaa haaaaa.......

Here's the pathetic H. obscura.....I dug a hole under the pecan tree and stuck it in....it can make up it's mind if it wants to live or die. I've had it with it.......

Last one because confronting my own addiction is making me sick.....I need dinner and a glass of wine.

The leaves on this H.pottsii were looking too pretty not to photograph them.

Good night everyone! Have a safe and happy weekend! Thanks in advance for sharing my addiction.

Edited to say: Keep the photos coming! Show us your HOYA!

Wow, wonderful pictures everyone. Susan with all your hoya outside, does it bother them when they constantly get rained on? I'm having a nervous breakdown here with all the moisture were having, my pots are soaking wet. Your yard looks like a jungle, very cool.

Lorry your collection is growing by leaps and bounds. Very pretty.

Lorry thanks for the offer, but I really don't have any room, and I can't winter mine outside. But ya never know I may take ya up on it later...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

All of you sure make the best use of your space!!! And the plants are SO healthy!! Susan, what is the bloom in the lower right corner of the shot inside your shade house?

Good going, everyone.

I will try to get some photos up....

Tami, I was worried about the rain a two weeks ago when it poured for days on end. I had to tip the pots to let water drain out. With 100+ plants and mosquito infestation this was a real chore. I was only real worried about the Eriostemmas as the leaves will yellow and drop if they get too soaked. Everyone is doing ok, in fact if it doesn't rain I am going to have to water very soon.

I think it depends on what your daytime highs and night time lows are. It's hot as heck her both day and night now so the plants suck it up....Anything I don't want to get more water goes under the overhang until it gets a chance to dry up a little.

If you are really worried stuff paper towels around the top of the pot and it will wick some of the moisture out. If it's very hot and the night time temperatures stay above 65 you should be fine.

Carol, it's the H. verticillata reblooming again....

Good growing everyone. I love looking at your photos...

This is not practical for growing where you only have seasonal heavy constant rains....but we typically have 160" per year...but periods of long drought...which means we get sometimes 2 and 3" of rain a night. I mix my soil for the outdoor plants to hold almost half cinders and/or perlite...the wat er runs thru. but when the holes get clogged...I have found 4-5' of roots growing outside the pot in the hanging basket. They will survive as long as they are not in soggy soil.

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Susan, that is incredible. When I grow up I wanna have a place just like yours!!!

Hey Ann..we have a spare bedroom :) You are welcome any time :) though this is not hoya heaven YET :) I still have a lot more collecting to do :)
You are too kind though!

Night...Simply STUNNING! I LOVE it :) and GREAT idea about the bungiesand the rebar!

Tami :) Ok hun..I totally understand. I actually need to cover the hoyas a couple of times a yr here also :)

I think Eriostemmas are my next big thing! I would love to have some in the sun of my outside patio! So..I guess to the pimpette I go to see what I can see!

Coral Springs, FL

Wow - great introduction to this site. I love all of your hoyas. I just started collecting hoyas - have 8 or 10. I had to admit I was an orchid junky, so in my warped mind - switching to hoyas is a cure! After seeing all of your plants, I'm not so sure.

Prescott, AZ

Thanks Susan for re-assuring me. They are in fairly fast draining soil, but ya just get worried when they are so darn wet. I put a tarp thingy over the top of the deck so they haven't gotten any more. Carol If you get that much rain and there fine, mine should be to. I will sleep alot better tonight, and stop fussing over them.

Vero Beach, FL(Zone 9b)

Boca :) You are definitely on dangerous ground :) LOL...Hoyas can also be VERY addictive! as you can see..we all have a little bit of a hoya problem

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Finally got some pics....off the back of the house is a huge stand of bamboo....and I bend the culms down, anchor the top to something and hang the large pots....they get rain, shade, good breeze and good light....

Along the back of the house (bathroom on the left, screened in porch on the right) I have those plastic shelves with more..... Note...the nifty trellises....

This is the newest area....a space that was not being used...HEAVENS!!!! We had to fix that!!! And I needed a place to grow out smallish plants...I call this the elementary school -they get great air circulation, no rain, are facing SE but are shaded and near a hose so I don't forget to water them.....

Nice spots. Hey, do you have those baby ones on the ground? Don't you have any snails? I would be afraid to put any of mine on the ground. I am plagued with snails & slugs.
Marcy

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

OH no, Marcy...they are on gridded 'tables' about 18" off the ground. I have slug bait around the legs. We have them too and they can hoover faster than anything!!!

LOL, I just went through this post again. Susan, your post on obscura just cracks me up. That will teach her. LOL that is what I feel like doing to mine...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

NO NO NO...don't....H. obscura is EASY.....Maybe you guys just have a 'bad clone'...I have had plants that are just IMPOSSIBLE and I get another one and it is SOOOooo easy.

Long Beach, CA

OK...here is a shot of that OVERLOADED olive tree in my front yard. Ha. I have other plants on there too, but mostly it is hoyas.

And here is a shot of one section of the South side of the house. There is a large block wall very close to the house and ns you can see, there is only a very small isle to get down through the middle and if I am not careful, I knock plants off the shelves. I don't even LET Paul go down through there. Ha. If he needs something that is only got by traveling through there, I hurry & get it for him. Ha.

My office window. Sorry about the darkness, I guess the lighting was wrong on the camera.

These are those little organizing shelves you find in Home Depot for the backs of doors, or closets, etc. They make great plant keepers hung on a wall.

I also have a lot of plants hanging on the back patio shade sections.

Another window. The 2 aquariums have heat pads under them for starting plants. This one faces North, but all plants seem to do well here.

Another window with bad lighting for picture taking. This one faces West.

Last one. Another shot of the tree from a different side.
Now you have seen some of the many places around here I cram all my plants into. Ha.

Oh Marcy, girl you have it bad. Your Olive Tree cracks me up. I don't think you could stuff one more plant on there. LOL..... How are you hanging and trellising the plant to the left in the black pot that is really close together/touching the green pot? Is it a tomatoe cage? I just love your photo's and have to show them to my husband, he will see that I have alot more hoya's to collect. Thank goodness you can leave them out all year :O

Carol you are so right about maybe just having a bad plant. I took cuttings off my obscura and they are growing faster than the original plants. No peduncles yet, but my fingers are crossed...

Keaau, HI(Zone 11)

Marcy...I LOVE your olive tree. How cool is that!!!

Campbell River, BC(Zone 8a)

Wow!! It's amazing how many plants you've been able to fit into all the different spots you keep them Marcy. It must take you a long time to water. Do you ever miss any? They all look great but I especially love the tree too.

Sandy

Sequim, WA(Zone 8a)

Marcy, ahem, I am going to show these pictures to DH and he will be able to see for himself that I do not have near enough too many plants!

Chowchilla, CA(Zone 10a)

Marcy, that is wonderful! I'm with Sandy - I love the hoyas in the tree.
Ann

Everybody's pictures are wondeful and I've enjoyed seeing where everybody else "plays Plants". Thanks

Betsy

Macon, IL(Zone 5b)

Marcy - you are my hero!! Incredible!! (I'm sooo envious!!)

Other than the Queen, Marcy must win for having the most plants! They're gorgeous. You really do grow!

Marcy, you couldn't possibly work outside of home and take care of all those plants. Do you have any help? LOL!

Susan

Long Beach, CA

Are you kidding. Lots of you gals have more plants than this. It must be bad pictures (they must look like there are more than they really are). Ha. Awanda has a house & greenhouse full & just look at Susans shade house inside & out there. Ha.
I do work, but mostly from here now. I take care of a lady and also babysit at another place these days. I also have been helping a plant lady friend of mine with her new business. I do have to spend a lot of time watering, etc. but it is a labor of love so I don't mind, and that is easy to do in between my other duties. Now that the weather is hot, it is even MORE watering time, but the days are also long now, so much of it can be done in the evening. (good excuse not to make supper..ha ha).
I did have an office job in the afternoon up until a year or so ago, but I had lots of plants and animals then too. I just get up early & work it all in. One can always make time for things you love to do.

Tami...that plant (if it is the one I think you mean is not trellised or anything. It just climbed up the hanger & then on up the hook I have it on (which is a long 18" hook.) Now when I move it around, I have to include the hook to go with it. Ha. It was not supposed to be in that spot anyway, I think I was moving things around & forgot to put it back up where it usually hangs. Some of them have climbed up their hooks, & then on up into the tree. Brother. I may have to get a big machette out one of these days. Then you can all have cuttings mixed with olive branches. Ha.
Marcy

Thanks all for the compliments.

League City, TX(Zone 9a)

Looks fabulous to me Marcy! Yes, I think you are smitten. Lovely plants and set up! I've got the same problem with plants climbing up and rooting on the tree. What to do?

Absolutely wonderful collection of hoyas Marcy. I like your orchid cactus too. Do you know how many hoyas you have?
Christine
