Jaimee's post (and TamiF's post) showing where they grow their hoyas inspired me to take a picture and share with you where I keep "most" of my hoyas. (I have a few on a lighted plant stand inside)
I take my hoyas and the entire plant stand in for the winter....then back out during spring/summer.
My screened-in porch faces east so there is lots of early morning sun til about 10:00. They ALL seem to love it and are growing like crazy.
.....but I juuust don't know how i'm going to fit them all BACK IN this winter as I've aquired many new ones this spring! (and NO, sis - I ain't givin' 'em to YOU)
Where do YOU keep your Hoyas?
Hehe or LORD..I have mine all over so it would be alot of photos :)
I have 3 stands in one spare bedroom
2 stands in my office
and 7 stands on my screen enclosure
AND I have some that can take more sun out in my pool enclosure
my carnosa lives outdoors :)
Nice porch, Betsy! I like your hoya shelf too. What will you do when the little ones grow up? :-))
I've started rearranging my hoyas in our windows and new photos will be uploaded to my website when I'm done. But, here's a preview of a part of my south window where I have all 4 (!) eriostemmas that I own and plan to put 2 or 3 more there when I get any new ones... Don't mind the outside, we are redoing the stones on our patio.
Christina
Oh I want eriostemmas! They like a lot of sun and I need some more for outside!
Hehe which ones do you have? It would be helpful for me to know the names of them so I can track them down!
Lorry, from the left:
coronaria
sussuela
cv. Ruthie
sp. PNG 431 (seedling)
I plan to get more of them for that window because they grow into nice plants really fast!
Christina
That is good to know Christina :) thanks so much!
Is there a place that you can see a list of which ones are eriostemmas?
I have been wanting some since They like the sun and I can put them on my outdoor patio and not worry about burning :)
Lovely, peaceful looking set up on your porch Betsy.
I'm with Lorry though, mine are in every room that has a window in my house, except the basement . In some rooms the sun is too strong so I have shelves on the walls that abut the windows. But then only about 60% of my plants are hoyas....
I live in a condo townhouse and the little bit of outside that I have has unshaded sun for most of the day, so my treasures all stay in the house.
Christine
Very seren porches ladies. I could spend all day in either one of them. I love your plant shelf Jamie. Oh sigh.... I need a screened in porch......
Here is my overly full greenhouse and where I do my morning prayers and bible reading. I call it "My Bethany" , it is so peaceful and serene. When I'm out here, hubby knows not to bother me. I am looking for a larger greenhouse, that I hope to have up and running sometime during the fall. I'm not sure if I'm going to get another Rion, or go with a different brand. I also have all the windows in the kitchen nook area full of plants, as is the master bathroom window and the windows in the family room.
Blessings,
Awanda
Oh my GOSH, Awanda! It looks like a jungle in there - which is a compliment! =0) I can see why you find it such a place of peace.
Hey, if you get a bigger greenhouse, you can start having church IN the greenhouse - - COUNT ME IN ON THAT! Oh and by the way.....I see you have a cactus about to bloom. Princess of the Night?
Christina - I LOOOOVE your orderliness and have taken your idea and have many of my bigger hoyas in pots with the bamboo hoops! So nice and neat! And to answer your question about what am I gonna do when the littler hoyas grow up? I'm HOPING to have my own greenhouse by then!!! =0)
Jaimee - love your porch, too, girl! But I bet the insides of our houses look similar in the winter. My husband was EXTREMELY claustrophobic all winter with plants and hoyas in every possible window - which made him kind of testy....if ya know what i'm sayin', ladies! So I agreed to consolidate all my hoyas outside or on the one lighted plant stand. Freed up every window but the one over the kitchen sink. He's been MUCH LESS CRANKY since then! ha ha
Com'on everyone else - SHOW US YOUR HOYA HAVENS!
Oh, ladies those porches and greenhouses are just luscious! Why do I suspect that the serenity found in those beautiful spaces has some effect on your sanity? Really, really nice spaces!
Christina, do you keep your eriostemmas in that one spot & not move them around? They really look phenomenal, so they must be happy growing inside your house (which, I hear, is a bit unusual). How much light does that south window get?
By the way, ladies, I am having my morning coffee as I look at your pictures - I am going to call it vicarious hoya porch serenity!
Ann
Christine- it is iron, It has 3 plant stands, a corner shelf and a tall skinny shelf that match it, I just loved it!!
The potting bench to the left of the picture is one my husband made last year..I just loved it! I guess he got sick of me using the coffee table on the porch as my potting bench Hahah~! he really did a great job...
Ps: Anyone seen Gemila Lately? I just love those white pots and need to order some more, but i cant seem to find her address...
SC..I believe you can Ask Tami about those pots also :)

Tami? Is this true ...D mail me :)
Ann, ALL my hoyas are inside. To give you an idea how strong the sun is in that south window I could show you an old photo of a pubicalyx that I had there when we moved in, but I can't find it anywhere. Anyway, the plant bloomed like mad but almost died from way too yellow leaves and I had to start over with a cutting. The plant in the hanging pot is sigillatis and it's completely red from the sun.
From now on these eriostemmas will stay in that window. I want to see some flowers... some day... perhaps...
SCShopgirl: Very nice potting bench!
Christina
..if you guys are talking about the small white plastic hanging baskets......you can also check with our beloved Hoya Jedi Master.
She will even include FREE SUNSHINE! =-0)
My sunporch is Sooooo small....now thanks to you, Betsy....I'm gonna have to add enlarging it to my 'to do' (maybe when I'm 80) in the future list!
Jaimee....nice porch and shelves!
(I see someone I know, there!)
Didn't you post a photo of that potting bench last year?
I seem to recall that, and being very envious!
I'll try to get a shot tomorrow of most of my Hoyas hanging in the apple trees.....it's kind of funny looking at the trees at night in particular, 'cuz you see these faint white images at different levels when you're looking towards the tree......the first few times I always have to do a double-take.
(I have a lot of the white pots, too....and I *also* need some more of the smaller ones!)
That is one good looking porch!
Christina
Nan- Yes i did post it, i was sooo excited then!!! It probably was cleaner!! Ooh the hoyas in the apple trees seem so neat! I need the small pots too, They are perfect!!
Karen- you have a wonderful porch too!!
Betsy- does she have them too?? Boy they were hard to find last year, someone D mail me about them :)!!
Beautiful!!
I'm jealous of the greenhouse.
ann
Karen & Betsy I LOVE your greenhouse and porches, I've already picked out a spot for my morning coffee when I come to visit (during the spring of course). SCShopgirl, as I posted in the your other post, very nice porch. Amen Sis. Betsy, when we start having church service, I'll let you know:-). Christina nice window space for your hoyas.
Blessings,
Awanda
Awanda - we'd LOVE a visit!! And, I see you have a chair in your greenhouse - how THOUGHTFUL to provide a place to relax for those who may pillage your greenhouse (not that I would...)
Mine are SUCH a mess since I am moving everyone around :) I just put up another stand :)
I will try to take photos this weekend though :)
Love the set ups guys :)
I would love suggestions on making something to hang plants!
I am thinking of putting a curtain rod up! Since I am in a wheelchair...hanging from the ceiling is a bit much!
Lorry- you know what i used last winter? I had a quilt rack that i hung a bunch of the little white pots on..It worked great...I need to see if i can dig out the photo i took.
Thanks for all the nice compliments, ladies! And everyones pictures are just wonderful....although a few of you haven't shown us the money yet. Com'on - show us where you "PLAY PLANTS"!
Nan - so now you are going to enlarge your porch, huh? I have no problem taking credit for that! Anything to assist a Hoya-Sistah! =0) And post that picture of the hoyas under the tree - would love to see it! (I have a few hanging out under my trees too. Hit my danged ol' noggin on 'em every time I mow. DOH!)
Sistah Awanda - yeah, Karen & I are in HEAVEN with our little greenhouse! Couldn't keep it heated well enough last winter to keep our plants in there but we're hoping we've got that covered for next. But they are LOVING IT IN THERE NOW! And oh girl, we'll be raising the rafters holding church in your new greenhouse, won't we? =0)
Lorry - here's a thought for something you can hang your hoyas on that would be easily accessible for your chair - - they have those clothes racks on wheels....y'know, like dance costume racks? I was looking at them earlier this year when I was needing some more hangin' space - - the one I was looking at had adjustable knobs on each side where you could raise/lower the bar across the top. You could lower it to just the perfect height for you to reach. AND it would be on wheels. ?? just a thought...

Ya'll have renewed my passion for houseplants and hoyas inparticular: years ago I grew many, ofcourse not the choices of today, but they were nice, over the years, moving every few years, and kids, and farms, and no farms, buisness and no buisness, houseplants took third and fourth places in my hectic lifestyle. But now I'm settled... old house burned down three years ago, we bought a new place with great exposeure, for a wonderful garden and places for plants... so I'm growing again...
Here is where I keep my plants in the season,,, dont know where they will be later,,,, hoping for a GH... crossed fingers.
Viv
OH very nice, Viv! And boy oh boy do I know what you mean about plants losing the "priority race". After working full time for 30 years and raising four daughters....I had to give up plants, gardens, horses...AND MY SANITY! ha ha But it's nice for us to be able to rekindle the plant passion, huh?
***Nice to have your in our forum!**
Betsy
