I've been in the process of turning over my impacted garden soil and mixing it with good soil and compost. And often I find a dirt clod with a hole through it, about pencil size. Are these earthworm holes? I haven't seen any worms, but I'll be glad if these are made by night crawlers.

Do you have grub worms and Japanese Beetles there? After recently learning that the grub worms become Japanese Beetles, I noticed pencil sized holes in the beds where these beetles emerged. Just a thought.
