This was ugly enough until I saw the pic and the big hooks on it's feet. Plant eater? Bug eater??
Yuck! Friend or Foe?
The antennae aren't quite as bushy as I expected they should be, so I'm not positive of this, but I think it might be a scarab beetle (family Scarabaeidae). Usually large scarabs like that feed on rotting logs, though a few may eat roots. Was it attracted to a light? That's usually when these guys show up, buzzing around a light at night.
I found it walking on my patio in the late morning. Unusually cool day, if that makes a difference.
it's looks like a june bug.
The body is an inch long, double the size of what we call a June bug around here, which are light brown.
i tried to send a google image. it didn't work. go to google image and put in june bug. there are lots of different kinds.
