Oh, those look like the dwarf Cosmic Cosmos. I gave my friend some seeds of the Orange ones spring '05 to plant in Oklahoma. They bloomed beautiful and re-seeded like crazy this year! Just let those babies go to seed and you will have it every year.
Still have not tried Hollyhocks. I just have not had a large enough garden yet.
I love the idea of blue in there.
knolan thread
Fly, I would go with Classic.
Thanks Sweezel. I saw the orange today and it was a really hard decision. They were both beautiful. I almost went with half a flat of each. Glad you told me out the reseeding. I dead headed them today and the buds are drying out on my counter so I could save the seeds for next year. If anything, I'll have seeds for the plant swap. I'm thinking blue around the yellow cosmos and then orange around the roses.
Kristi your recipes sound yummy! Ah shucks....I think you're getting the house ready to early for me....lol. I to know what it means to be bitten by huge skeeters! You think you have them big....nope...we do! We even have to skeeter traps that are almost the size of bear traps....lol.
:) Donna
Hi Donna! Good to hear from you. Come on down! The girls are going to raise the barn (Umm...I mean shed) and plant while I cook! We can all cool off with margaritas.
Kristi
Are they going to be strawberry maragaritas?
Absolutely! And Pina Coladas.
Oh man I love strawberry margaritas!
I'd put CG under classic but it could go under garden design. Either way it works.
Oprah fixed these Lemon Drop Martini's and they really looked good, I have the recipe. I'll bring lemons.
April's right.
I luv Pina Coladas even better! Now by the time I get there from my side of the fence, yu'all will have sloshed them back and there won't be any left for me.....lol.
:) Donna
Woohoo Margaritas! Can I join? And I just googled those Lemon Drop Martini's fly_girl. I might have to pick up some lemons and mint for this weekend. I have vodka buried under some stuff in the freezer already.
Donna, we'll be sure to save you some. We'll just make the party last a loooonnng time.
Rachel Ray was on Oprah a while back and made pomegranate martinis. I made them over the holidays and they were delicious! Lemon Drop sounds more appropriate for the summer. We'll have the martinis, pina coladas and strawberry margaritas. I have the cute little umbrellas to go in the glasses so we're good to go.
Thanks fly!
Have you tried appletinis?
Appletinis, lemontinis, pomegrantinis, I'm going to try one of each!
Oooh. I hope not at the same time.
Well I just went out to dinner with the girls and had a lovely margarita and then went and played with makeup. Do ya'll have any idea how long it's been since I've played with makeup? I even bought some!
OK Ceejay....how does one make an appletini?
Fly_Girl.....lemontinis?
April, Sweezel, do ya'll have a particular tini?
I think we will have to have a get together just to try these recipes and to discuss plants, of course.
Yes, a french(mar)tini for me! Yum!
That do sound like a winner!
We'll make lot's of teeny tinis.
I have no specific request, just that they taste good.
I had problems with the last line?
Sitting in Knolan's barn-shed
Sipping a lemontini,
No pulled pork, we were misled!
Maybe we'll have Linguini.
Discussing a bug on my Brug
Scale on my Kale
My groundcover's a thug
Oh....Lowe's is having a sale!
Waiting for the food
What's K doing in there?
Boy these tinis are good
?

What's she cooking? I don't care!
Great poem Fly! That was a cute morning startup. Thanks!
K, I like that last line.
Oops....I found out what it is. South African Foxglove.
I've never seen anything like it, it's pretty! It does look like a foxglove flower.
Did you know that fairies teach foxes to wear the flowers on their feet so they can slip into henhouses or get away from fox hunters. So....if the flowers start disappearing.......
Fly I never knew that. Thanks for the education- LOL. Lovely plant Kristi- did they have anything amazing the I couldn't live w/out?
April
Why I never knew that either. So that's how they do it.
April, there's lots of stuff I don't think you can live without. Next time your that way, cash out your checking account. Also, visit Another Place in Time. They had some really wonderful things too. Bought a rangoon creeper and a red blooming passiflora. If I hadn't already planted my other passion vine and mendevillas on the trellis by my entryway I think I would put the rangoon there. Do ya'll think it's too late to dig them up and transplant?
No I regularly dig up and move plants- just remember that you are going to shock them again so if you can do it so that they will be protected from direct sun and you can baby them a bit- it would be best.
April
I move my plants so much, my little wagon has a U-Haul emblem on it.
Oh good. Then that's what I'll do. We have an extra trellis that hubby can attach to the old fence by the pasture and I bought 10 bags of dirt today so....guess I'm be making a new bed tomorrow and transplanting. I really want the scent of the rangoon right by my entryway. I can baby plants.
K or April, did you buy some seeds from Ursula?
K dear....dirt is on the floor, soil is in the ground ;)
I've never smelled rangoon, guess I'll have to get one, does it get really huge? Or is it manageable?
I did buy some seeds. I'm anxious to see what I end up with. I purchased only those that will grow in our zone. I'd be happy to share!
I had never seen a rangoon until today. The nursery had one planted and it was completely in flower. The smell is divine....that's all I can say. I MUST have it in the entryway to my front door. Reading through the files, it can become invasive so I'll have to keep an eye on it.
And believe you me, the soil will be in the ground tomorrow. Not dirt.
Regarding the Rangoon Creeper- I keep thinking that should be the name of a great horror movie, it just sounds like it should scare you to death...and suddenly through the fog the rangoon creeper...
Mine is in the 2nd year. The 1st year it was slow and I wasn't certain it was all that. This year it is much better, more flowers, tons of flowers- it has been blooming non-stop. It is getting larger, but not like it's going to take over the world. It would be easy to contain I think, but cutting it back, much easier than passion vine or the snail vine that is threatening to take over my yard, home and subdivision.
You're right April.......'the rangoon creeper silently crept through the open window while everyone was sleeping, even the dog didn't hear.....'. You know the saying......the first year they sleep, the second year they creep, the third year they leap. I do not allow anymore garden thugs in my yard. I just finished removing all the Asiatic Jasmine, now that plant has a mission to overtake the planet!
I'm exhausted! Been out in the front planting and trimming all day, even in the rain. I just rediscovered my ham strings. Trimmed some huge branches growing in my yard from the pasture. Planted the creeper and the new passion vine and the fox gloves. Then I went and finally dug up the Dietes from my friend's (had to pot it for now). Planted extra daisies from my brothers yard and a few baby crepes. Then I started 20 little pots of seedlings from the esperanza and liatris. We'll see if they actually come up and if I collected the seeds properly. I have 10 baby orchid trees growing from seed and two loquats from seed (all in pots) so I know I did those right. Happy to share any of them if anyone is interested.
Now, bed and book.
