Yup born in Austin. Sometimes I just get on the highway to see some wide open space! :) There are just too many trees here. And I am surely dying for some Tex Mex. The best Mexican restaurant up here was run by East Indians! It closed a while back.
Don't get me wrong, I love it in New England, but I miss people who call you "Honey" and "Sugar".
CLOSED: Ok then, what the heck is this thing?
lol Ivy..lord do I know how you feel! I I agree, there ARE too many trees for a flatlander to handle...lol...but the woods up there are gorgeous...and smell wonderful.. :) And dadburn it...I sure miss the smell of pine trees and flowers. But it seemed that every time I flew back to South Texas...it just got sweeter and sweeter here at home...as far as the landscape..and, well...the people too I reckon. I missed the Mexican food...but we found a pretty good place near Harvard ...off the Square. And don't get me started on the pizzas up there! lol...I REALLY miss those....lol.. We use to make a pilgrimage to New Haven to get some pizza at Pepe's...a local legend to be sure...probably a US legend...lol
But BBQ....well now....tisn't any place in the world like Texas BBQ...in my honest opinion.. :)
lolol GD, hey, don't laugh...I've heard it happens from time to time, not to me tho..lol.. ;p Hey, ya got any red clay over at your house? lol...
All I have is limestone and farm dirt... :D And a few shriveled tree frogs in there somewhere or another.. :D

Indeed . . . ya gotta love the Tex-Mex around here . . . I think that's the main thing that keeps here in this area. I've traveled all over and have yet to find any where north of Bexar county that even comes close :D
YOu want some good mexican cooking in San Anontion try the Taqueria La Tapitia on WW White and Rigsby. Best Jaliso style carne guisada burrito anywhere.

So darn good...ya had to say it twice...lol... I'll have to try it, deeskitchen... :)
hmmmm that's not too far from me . . . I'll have to check that out too too ;)
I'm gonna have to come down there.....
lol Ivy
We'll Federal Express some chile rellenos and flan up to ya..... :)
Oh, yeah!
My dad actually ordered a bunch of stuff to make chili and all sorts of southwestern food a few years ago... I'll have to find out where he ordered from.
Sorry about saying it twice. My grandson helps me type sometimes. He's 2.5 yrs. old.
lol Dee . . . not a problem . . . my pups used to help me type when I had my desk set up where they could reach the keyboard, so I know how it is to have a helper or two :)
I used to go to the local H.E.B. and get stuff like spices and tortillas to send to my brother and his wife when they were working up north . . . My brother's like me . . . he can't go without some good ol' TexMex for too long ;) lol
lol GD, I was one "starved" Texan living in Boston for 5 years and desperate for anything that even resembled Tex-Mex. I had to travel almost by subway just to get a great can of jalapenos...I eat them with everything..lol.
lol @ the HEB. Yeah, that was me as well...use to load up on the foodstuffs when we would fly down here to home. And eat every bbq'd pork rib that I could find...lol
lol, I was just lookin' over this thread again...almost a month old...and the subjects that have popped up are a hoot... :)
lol TxT indeed . . . I think jalapenos are addictive . . . almost as addictive as pork ribs :D
Oh and yeah this thread has made the rounds huh? What started out as a crazy prehistoric look'n bug ID question has evolved into some topics far from the super bug :))
lol..indeed.....I guess I'll go ahead and fork over the 15.00 for a whole year when August 22nd rolls around. I've gone and learned ALL sorts of stuff on this thread.. :) Bugs=Beans=Cicadas=TexMex :)
lol yeah . . . I've already got my $15 worth of laughs from you folks around here . . . plus it was worth $15 to know I'm not the only one nutz about some of this stuff :D
I hear ya GD. Totally worth it!
uh huh . . . plussssss . . . it was worth at least that to know what the heck that bug was :)) lol
Definately! It was fascinating!
And I got to enjoy real art!
lol @ "real art" :) Thanks and ok . . . I guess it's official now. I took a few paintings up to the gallery in the Dallas airport last week, so I guess I can call myself a "real artist" now? ;)
Yep! I put you up there with Andrew Wyeth!
Wow . . . really? Well thanks :) I've seen some of his paintings online and he does great work :)
He paints ''real'' pictures. No paint spatters or melting watches for me.
Yeah . . . Realism is more my cuppa tea also. Even though I've dabbled around in some 'not so real' areas (like the ones I did with the horses that had the horse heads in the clouds), I really enjoy the wildlife stuff the most. In fact, I just made a commitment to do a painting of a Cheetah to be donated to a wildlife rescue sanctuary's fund raiser next month. Haven't decided yet if I'm going to do one of their Cheetah kittens or one of the grown cats yet, but I'm leaning towards a kitten pic. :D
Cool! I don't mind the heads in the clouds, actually think it makes make a neat picture.
My second pet peeve is ''sculptures.'' Especially ourdoor iron works. It's a what? I don't get it and I don't think you really do either.
lol yeah . . I'm not sure what that's all about either . . . just take'n up space I reckon?
I am a transplanted Texan. Originally from up state New York. I am one of those yankees that came down and decided to stay. My husband is from the valley. Laferia area. We have been married 30 years on 23 July. So I guess I am an official Texan now.
Ahh ok Dee . . . well then I reckon we should welcome you to Texashood :D And happy 30th come'n up too . . . congrats :)
Happy anniversary, oh happy anniversary, happy aniversareeeee.................
Happy Anniversary!
Ivy, is that to the tune of the Lone Ranger?!! (The Flintstones!)
It sure is! Yabba dabba doo!
I loved that episode!
They just don't make em like that anymore.
I am happy because my daughter is into Tom and Jerry. It's the only old one that she really likes.
I can't watch the new cartoons. They give me a headache. Bugs Bunny forever!
lol yeah I'm with ya there BP . . . Bugz is muh hero for sure!!! I always wanted to work for either Disney or Warner Bros when I was a kid.
I experimented with a bit of animation (about 10 years ago) when I first got a PC with a paint program - then used a GIF compiler to put the stills together. It was time comsuming as all get out, but pretty fun too ;)
I've got a few old files somewhere on my site still I think . . . I'll have to check.
Bugs Rules!
My sister in CA decorated her kitchen in cartoon characters and bright colors, so I made her some canisters with Bugs, Michigan J. Frog, Red Hot Riding Hood, and Elmer Fudd. They came out great - Especially the Red Hot Riding Hood - on one side is Red, looking fetching, and on the other is Wolfie, with his eyes popping out of his head.
Hey, I just realized we've gone from bugs to Bugs!
lol Ivy....true!
ROTFL! I wasn't even trying!
I have seen a cicada killer up close. We were hiking around Bear Lake in Florida and I spotted him on a tree trunk near a pitcher plant bog.
I ran.
lmbo Speck . . . what????? no photos? lol
