lol Ivy1..I know how ya feel. This neighbor across the street is absolutely brutal with his yard. He pours fertilizer alllll over his yard...and then cuts it to the ground. I think that all of the little critters in his yard are packin' their bags and moving to mine....lol..which is fine. I'm constantly moving big ole grasshoppers and such out of the way when I mow, lol. But in this drought down here...you just can't do your yard that way.
CLOSED: Ok then, what the heck is this thing?
TxTurquoize, Apple pie is the only pie I have with ice cream. It's also the ONLY time I eat vanilla as I am a chocolate girl!!!!
Backyard peeking, I live in a very quiet town!
Do I hear you on the fools that shave their yard!!!
Cicadas started July 3rd. So we're having a mighty early frost. We had a mighty early spring. We've had a perfectly rainy spring. Almost scares me.
I have seen one of these once in my own shop and never did ID it. Now I know what it is. I am from San Antonio also.
Ahh ok thanks Dee . . . I guess the one I saw was come'n to the lights in my shop hunt'n a snack :D . . . cuz there's no water anywhere near there.
Hope yours didn't have eggs.....eeeuuuwww.
lol Ivy . . . we'll hope not anyway :D
lol...I think GD's water bug is about the size of a volkswagon...Like I said earlier...actually had one of those critters attach its little self to my toe in my parent's swimming pool... Felt mighty brave as I showed it to everyone...lol :)
Welcome...deeskitchen... :) Ice tea is always in the fridge...lol
Ok..so in my interum absence...its come full circle back to the bug? lol...I love it.... ;)
yup yup . . . we're bug'n ya again :D
lol...I'm going to have to go outside and rustle up a critter or two....
:O critter rustle'n? Aint that still a hang'n offense here in Texas?
lol...hey...its hot today! What happened to all of the rain? This wind is already dryin' everything out again...Even my Dallas red lantana is looking wilty...and it takes ALOT to wilt lantana..lol I'm already excited about our first cold front in the Fall.... lol
We just had two days of 58* weather at 6:00 am. I don't like hot, but I'm also not ready for an icy breeze.
lol deeskitchen, alot of us here on Texas Gardening had ALOT to say about cicada wasps a week or so ago...lol...Quite an interesting and nonagressive critter... :)
MMMMmmmmm...Pork Ribs. Just caught up on this thread and now I want some pork ribs. My brother makes the most delectable ribs and he just had us over a couple of weeks ago for some. All we ate were ribs- why bother with all the other stuff when you can stuff yourself with ribs? And the best part is when you get a Scooby Snack- that's when you get a big hunk of meat with no bone. Mmmmmm...
lol croclover...its too late in the night to be thinkin' about bbq'd ribs! lol...Now on a lazy Sunday afternoon...well...then we'll talk ;)
lol ya'll are make'n me hungry again and I just ate :P
Yeah that monster wasp thread was a good one . . . lots of folks had no idea what they were . . . here's the link
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/616853/
Now see? Here it is at 9:30...and NOW I'm thinking about pork ribs....for breakfast no less! lol.. Man o man...that sounds good...hmmm....with a big ole jalapeno on the side... ;P
Of course Country Style Pork ribs marinaded in beer on a mesquite fire. Can't beat it. With a big Ol' pot of pinto beans.
lol dee...now cut that out...and here I have to go to work in a short while......but....ya gotta have dem beans.... :)
yummmmmmy . . . and it's lunch time too :D
Mmmmm, Pork ribs are good any time of the day or night. I'm making slow-cooked sticky beans for the Temecula Round Up @ Dr Don's. Unfortunately by Sunday they will be stinky beans...
Try smoking that pot o beans on the pit for about an hour after you cook them. Makes them better than ever.
Oh that sounds heavenly Dee. I'll have to talk to my brother about that. He's the king of the Grill in my family. I never knew that chicken didn't have to be coated in thick char to be "good" until he took over the grill. My dad used to light up the Weber and then prop the lid up facing the wind. Everything was !WELL! done and covered in pure carginogenics. His feelers are still a little hurt that whenever we have family get-togethers everyone says "no thanks" to his offer to grill. Heh. No wonder I used to hate BBQ.
lol GD...your thread is now heading into a whole new dimension....BEANS..... From bugs to beans... :D
lol croclover...I and my family can sort of relate to your Dad bbq'ing.. My Dad ALWAYS bbq'd on Sundays....and...he...well...he had a bad habit of spraying the fire with lighter fluid...AFTER the meat was put on....lol Needless to say....we had "chicken a-la lighter fluid"...many a time...lol I'm not sure why...but his pork ribs seemed to be the worst...I think Dad just sprayed it on real thick on them ribs... lol :D
Oh, my Mama made the best sticky beans in the world. Cooked em all day long in a bean pot, with bacon and onions and I don't know, molasses or brown sugar, maybe a little mustard..a.a..a.lgrh....drool.
lol yeah . . . it's bean a pretty diverse thread huh? :D
Speak'n of . . . I make a pretty mean pot of beans muh'sef . . . extra spicy style . . . perfect for the cornbread and cover'd with cheese :P
Mmmmmmmmmmm.
I have to admit that I can make a pretty good pot of spicy boracho beans myself..with my grandmother's big ole iron skillet of buttermilk cornbread... :)
Give me a wedge of onion...and a huge jalapeno...(and lots of butter)...and I'm good to go... :):)
And iced tea of course, no sugar...lol
pssssst . . . pass the sugar please :D
*hiding sugar bowl* Now thats just sacreligious...lol ..No sugar in the tea...lol :p

Are stink bugs the same as box elder bugs?
And your bugger looks positively prehistoric! I don't think I want to go to rummaging about in sheds in TX.
lol cmccrell,
Lots of little critters tend to hang out in Texas sheds...lol.. Its just so darn hot and dry down here...most of the time, its about the only cool and shady spot to find for miles around. Nowadays, you have to be extra careful down here when you find a shed that no one has seen to for awhile, just because killer bees are pretty prevalent here now.
Speaking of bees, my father and friends went hunting one cool day on their hunting lease. Deer blinds have to be cleaned out each year, since owls tend to use 'em as Holiday Inns during the off-season, lol. Well, as my Dad tells it, a few bees came out of the deer stand and then ALOT of bees came out. Since all of the guys were standing around, everyone saw 'em....and then everyone hi-tailed it back into the truck. Needless to say, my poor Dad got hit about 4 times...another fella got about 7 licks. They finally went back in the dead of Winter....and they were all gone.... the bees I mean, lol.. :D
But getting back to stink bugs...lol, I'm not sure... :D
And don't go squattin' in any prickly pear bushes either...lol :D
You know what I miss? That big old sky--- and it don't bite, sting or stick.
And red clay. We used to smear it on ourselves when we were kids. Turns you bright orange for a while.
And Crawdads from the crick.
And friendly people.
lol Ivy...Are you a native Texan stuck up there in the Northeast? If ya are, I know how you feel...lol..I missed the horizon something terrible...and sunsets...and darn good Mexican food. lol, never did the red clay thing...but I hear its good for the complexion.. :D
Caught a good number of crawdads when I was a child....and got pinched plenty of times too...lol
And lord knows, Texas has some friendly people, tho I've seen a few low down folks as mean as yellow jackets...lol :)
lmbo TxT . . . . that's the last thing ya have to worry about me do'n @ squat'n in a pear bush :))
