Poll: Cut flowers or a live plant?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

My birthday is nearing (August 6) and DH usually sends beautiful cut flowers. This year, since I'm heavily into landscaping, I first thought that I would ask my DH if he would buy me something to plant...like a Japanese Maple that he personally selects! I could plant it and then always think of his having given it to me on my 55th birthday!

...Then I thought about how much I love those beautiful arrangements of exotic flowers, with those twisty branches interwoven...

AN OPINION POLL: Just for fun...which would YOU prefer if someone asked you which one you would like?

If you choose a live plant, which one is on your "wish list"?
If cut flowers, which ones are your favorites to be delivered by a florist?

Example: I'll say live plant...Japanese Maple...and the score is 1 (live plant is first number) to 0 (cut flowers is second number).

Score: 1 to 0

plant/shrub/tree from your wish list, and hopefully something he happens to like also. that way it can be y'all's tree in subsequent years.

Live plant. Lily bulbs.

Since my husband isn't a gardener by any stretch of the imagination, I'd just ask him to take me shopping for a live plant. Second choice would be bulbs, maybe a mail order gift certificate so I could pick out something I like.

Live plant :)! I like to do my own flower arranging. Also, at the very longest the arrangement may last a week+. But a tree, perennial etc.!

Thus far....
Live plant 5....cut flowers...0 !!

Hubby knows that cut flowers are a 'waste of money' in my opinion. He ALWAYS buys me a potted plant or garden tool. Even when the kids want to get me a boquet of something, he tells them mommy would rather have something with roots or bulbs. LOL

plants. though my hubby has gotten me a potting bench and a mantis rototiller. Tools he understands. the plants I get to pick out myself.

One year I bought a Norfolk pine (a 6 foot one that I had wanted for ages!!) for a Christmas tree. I figured that instead of paying through the nose for a cut Christmas tree, I would hang ornaments on the NP! I did (need to scan the pic!) and then had the pine for about 10 years after.....can't remember why it died. Probably when the kids were little and I had no time to watch it closely!!

I would definitely opt for a live plant. My dh is pretty much into my gardening scene too so he could probably pick out something I liked without even a hint. ;)

Live plant - kind would be a toss up between a newer daylily cultivar or a tree.
