Help ID this possible vine disease please.

Olathe, KS(Zone 6a)

Hello all.
I found 1 of my passiflora's just full of this stuff that begins as a buldge then splits the stems wide open. I have no idea what the kernel looking things are that protrude after the vine splits. It was on my P. Constance Elliot only. I cut all the vines off to a stump and it looks like the problem is solved (knock on wood). This plant was literally touching a few other passiflora's that were all kept in a greenhouse over winter and this "problem" didn't spread to them. I sure wished I would of checked on them over winter but I didn't. I hope somebody will recogonize this freak of nature. I almost wished I would of kept some of it alive somehow just to see what the end result would of been or see if this is the end result of something. I'm beyond baffled...But that is happening more and more it seems;)
Please shed some light if you can
Thanks, JD

Here is 1 more shot of another section of vine.
These pictures are now a couple weeks old, I was having pc problems that wouldn't allow me to download pictures. After cutting the passiflora vine back to a stump and 1 small stem, I thought it was dead. About 1 week ago I fed it a mix of maxicrop and superthrive. That combo works miracles for me as the plant literally had 2 one inch sprouts the next day and now there are probably 10 new growth tips. Those 2 products have brought new life to so many stressed plants, seedlings that can't handle fertilizer yet as well as clones/cuttings. But that is a whole different story;)

I hope somebody can ID this problem, I'm out of places to look for ways to ID this wierd mutation.
Thanks for taking the time to look.

LOLOL You guy's...That's not quite the explanation I was looking for;). Although...the more I look around for answers, the more alien aspect is making more sense than anything else!
I've had many plant problems in the past that took forever to find an explanation for and many problems have never been completely solved but there was always a possible idea. This particular situation has baffled everyone everywhere. I've checked with many different nurseries and other "expert's", nobody has any kind of clue. It never fails that I'm the guy with problems that defy explanation whether it be gardening, automotive or appliances. LOL I'm beginning to think I maybe the freak of nature here;) LOL
That seems to make more sense than anything else.
Thanks guy's.
