Is it possible to have an adenium forum?
Adenium Fourm?
Yes, yes!
Please, Dave???

I didn't see this when it was first posted, an Adenium forum would be wonderful! Right now, adeniums are scattered in the tropicals, succulent & plumeria forums. You never know where you will find them!
I'd be happy to visit an Adenium forum. I just found a great thread on Adeniums last night that I missed since it was in the plumeria forum, and I don't normally wander in there. I don't have many Adeniums yet but I'd love to learn more from those with experience.
Sheri
That would be GREAT if there was and Adenium Forum!! I would certainly add it to my favorites :)
I grow them and would love to learn more about them as well.
Lisa
Please add my vote; can, always, learn more since I just started growing them! 8>)
Love to have a forum.
larry
Yes, yes! Need to know more about these lovely plants!! sue
You can add me in here too! I only have three of them which I bought a couple of months ago but would like to learn more.
We need an Adenium forum...we need an Adenium forum...we really, really need an Adenium forum.
Hey, not just a forum, I've been trying to trade for one (no kidding!). Yes please please please.
then we need a Euphorbia forum next......
An adenium forum would be awesome!!
Could the existing adenium threads be moved over to it as well?
I currently have 9 grafted exotic Adeniums and more than 20 seedlings.
about 20 more enroute lol!!
An Adenium forum would rock!!
Please give this plant its own forum. Any plant that is discussed in the tropicals, succulents, and plumeria forums clearly has an identity crisis that can only be resolved by giving it its own space.
Malestrom, if you are ever interested in trading one of your adeniums, please give a holler!!
Im always interested in trades.
However my Adenium collection is still in its infancy.
I expect in the next year or 2 it will grow considerably.
I am currently seeking out a very unussual and rare one to add to the collection.
What did you have in mind for trade?
I don't have any adeniums and all I want is a regular old desert rose, A. obesum. I have a phalaenopsis, Kaleidascope; I have cuttings of Vanilla planifolia; after my Jatropha podagrica blooms again I should have lots of little Jatrophas; I have mint-scented pelargonium; I have 2 cordyline logs (big ones) -- Miss Hawaii and Cameroon, both are mini varieties; I have 5 caladiums that i don't want to overwinter, but they are gorgeous, Thai beauty and I forgot the name of the other one. Plus usual assortment of herbs, cuttings from hydrangeas (next spring for the hyds, I have 7 varieties), etc.
For less than the cost of shipping from us to each other
I reccomend you go to HD, Lowes and WallMart.
You will find them for about $3.- a piece when they have them.
I only suggest this as youre just looking to get started and not really hunting a spectacular flower.
I have many mnay from these sources.
I buy them for the caudex forms and graft nice ones into them.
What does the caudex form mean? you see how new I am.
I've had bad luck with HD plants- a totally infested devil's backbone that infested my other house plants, yuck. Rather buy from a reputable on-line source, maybe you could recommend one, you can use D-mail so we don't bore the other good folks here. Rather spend a little more and get something better. Appreciate the advice.
If you want something I have for postage, that's OK too, I'll try to keep my tradelist current.
The caudex is the fat bottom. Michael means that he picks them out by the shape of the plant, then if he doesn't like the flower when it blooms, he can graft a different top on it. I'm really jealous, though, because he's said several times that he can find them for $3, they're always $12 or $15 here! The one in this picture came from Home Depot this year. It was $15, and hasn't bloomed yet.
(See, Dave, we really NEED a forum, we're even talking about them here!)
Now that's a neat looking plant, like the curve in it.
Yep, we need a forum, yes ineed we do.
Ronna is exactly right.
The one you have for 12-15 is a 3 year old plant.
The 3.- ones are more like 1 yr old and in 4 inch pots.
You are getting a great deal on a magnificent caudex for 12-15 bucks!
Then you buy yourself the expensive few and graft them all into a multi tree woohoo!! 8^)
The best source for a quality adenium and awesome service would be
http://www.bradsbudsandblooms.com
Brad is a member here also.
I have many plants from him
I will buy many more as well. ;^)

Oh great, now I'll go shopping for a nice desert rose. Adenium forum, adenium forum.......
I think it would be an awesome forum too. I have several of these puppies, one that is over 10 years old. excellent plants for our hot desert!
Alan
If not Adenium....how about caudiciforms???
That would cover a lotta goodies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
caudiciforms?
Now I am with you!!
hmmm count on me to participate. I love adeniums, have grown them from seeds, new seedlings and regular plants. Like Malestrom, I'm more interested in the caudex first and then the flowers. I will try my hand at grafting this year.
Whatever form for this forum, we need one.
I think the caudiciform suggestion is a very good one...that would include a lot of plants I'm growing and interested in...including Adeniums. Caudiciform forum, please!
I had never heard of an adenium before this. I guess I'll vote for it too. Always interested in the plants people grow.
Well, I got some off ebay supposed to be 5 different colors for 12 dollars. I got them in very small pots and he told me to repot so I did and put them on the deck and now it has poured down rain on them twice and since I put them in a ceramic pots it soaked the heck out of them. Cant seem to figure out when its going to rain and run and bring them in. one has bloomed but only one bloom but its a very small plant. Guess I am going to have to repot in clay pots that drain and dry out very fast. Yes, We do need a forum for this plant. Fran
Oh absolutely. I have seen adenium lovers post in the cactus/succulent area and also in the plumeria area along with the tropical area. I think an adenium area would be great. I get some of my adeniums from Buried-Treasure.net
He gets his from Thailand and sometimes has some unusual colors.
Yes please add this as a new forum I am completely new to these and could use all the help I can get!!

OK so I throw in my vote for an adenium or caudiciform forum. How many votes does it take???? This makes 34 posts to this thread.
I'm watching the thread, but I have some questions, since we add forums based both on interest and need:
1) How many Adenium cultivars and/or species are there? (We only have a handful of entries in PlantFiles, so are we missing a lot of plant entries?)
2) Is there a society (national or international) that is recognized by the ISHS to maintain a checklist of registered Adenium cultivars? (That's often a pretty good signal that a genus may warrant its own forum.)
3) Is there a lot of variability among the varieties and species, and there's a pressing need to ask a never-ending list of questions about growing them? Or is the goal to have a place to share information and photos about the varieties or species you're growing. If so, wouldn't this information be better off going into PlantFiles, where it can be indexed and searched for the next time someone has the same question?
4) If the concern is that there's no clear-cut forum area to discuss Adeniums, could we expand the Plumeria forum title to include Adeniums, since they are related?
I'm not trying to be a wet blanket, but I'm concerned that we may unwittingly create a labryinth of "enclaves" for relatively small genera, when most of the information that winds up running through the forum should be added to PlantFiles entry for ready reference in the future.
There are about nine Adenium species. There are ten or so Pachypodiums that I know of...probably many others. There are also
several species of Dorstenia, another caudiciform.I believe Caudiciforms would be the right name for the new forum if you decide to give us one.
>Is there a society (national or international) that is recognized by >the ISHS to maintain a checklist of registered Adenium cultivars? >(That's often a pretty good signal that a genus may warrant its >own forum.)
According to the Yahoo Adenium forum there is one starting up now.
I agree with 'gone2seed' that if there is a forum that the right name should be Caudiciforms! I do like and have Adeniums but I, also, like caudiciforms because of their weird formations.
The International Asclepiad Society (IAS) in keeping with the latest taxonomical ideas, the family Apocynaceae was added to the scope of the society in 2000. This means principally Adenium and Pachypodium, but other plants in this family are also covered.
Put me on the list too as I now have some of these plants. Fran
So are we having an Adenium or caudiciform forum? Before I kill mine, hopefully???
