I just noticed today that my hollyhock was looking weird and through a bit of internet surfing, I found out it was rust. It says to cut off the infected leaves...well, that's pretty much all of them! If I cut them all off, won't it die? Can I keep it from getting worse by doing a weekly spraying with fungicide? Tamara
Hollyhock has rust, now what?
This is a good website for you. http://plantclinic.cornell.edu/FactSheets/hollyhockrust/hollyhockrust.htm Unfortunately, spray doesn't cure the problem on already infected leaves. It protects other noninfected leaves. So those leaves still need to be picked off and destroyed - put in a plastic bag and then trash them. Get them out of your yard. The link will tell you what else you have to do to safeguard next year's hollyhocks. Or you'll have it again....
Thank you very much! Tamara
