That's what my DH called these little chinese fringe planted.....uh, about 6 weeks ago. The tags are STILL on them.

Anyone else grow Minnie Pearls?
LOL! Minnie Pearl would have enjoyed that!
I love the plant! What is it exactly?
Pretty leaves - I like it.
They are pretty. These are just little cheap ones I got at either Home Depot or Wal-Mart. Believe they are called Loropetalum, or Chinese Fringe. They are evergreens and grow quite large with pretty pink fringe-like blooms in the spring. Depending on the amount of sun, the leaves turn a pretty purple color. I chose them because I wanted some evergreens in my front beds and the color blends well with our barberry and japanese maples. They are used a lot in commercial landscapes here because of the pretty color and low maintanance.

Our Lowe's has a small peach colored daylilly named Minnie Pearl. Pretty hybrid.
Swoznick,
How funny. Are you supposed to leave the tags on it???????
Weelllll I declare - I just don't know..... hahahahaha
I didn't remember this until just now, but my (deceased) grandmother was known in her church and community for her Minnie Pearl routine. I only saw her do it once - most of her performances were prior to my birth. She performed at church functions, school fundraisers, etc. She wore a loud checkered dress, the famous broad brimed hat with the price tag hanging from it and started every performance with a robust "HOOOOOWWWWDY! Well, I declare......" then go into her side splitting monologue.
Maybe that's where I get it!
Debra
That is so funny! I love Minnie Pearl. I think you should leave the tag on.
It's all coming back to me now....."Hooooowwwwdyyyy! I'm so proud to be here!"
I think I'm starting to channel Minnie.
LOL!!!
Jes channel away, Debra .. Treasure and nourish such wonderful, light-hearted and fond memories of your Grandma.
I need to check into those plants - they are a beautiful coloration, and 'evergreen' makes it even more interesting a plant to consider here.

Magpye,
They seem to be more and more popular in commercial plantings around here. They can get to be over 6-8', or pruned to desired height. Mine are so tiny it will take them a while to get there. I don't care for the pruned look because it destroys the softer natural growth pattern. The color is best with some sun exposure. And the best part - they can be purchased very inexpensively at the big box stores.
