Tiny curled leaves on impatiens?

Austin, TX(Zone 8b)

I potted up some impatiens for my son's apartment porch. It is shady to dappled sun. I used Rapid Grow soil that has moisture-retaining beads. His new growth is small and the leaves are curled up on the edges. Any ideas? I've read somewhere that is a definite sign of distress, but can't remember if it's too much water, not enough, needing shade, sun...??? too many variables. To top it off, I'm not SURE I got the shade-loving ones, what with the new SUN-patiens out now (and I bought them at a big box...no labels that I remember).

Sorry I don't have a pic as they are at his place. Next time I go there...

Thanks,
Connie

I think if they were Sun-patiens they would have had a label in them, those are from a company who's trying to market a new product so there's no way they'd let their plants be sold without labels. So I'm pretty sure you probably have the standard shade variety. It could be overwatering--I've seen more plants killed that way than by underwatering, and having the moisture retaining beads in the soil means you should be watering even less than normal. I would stick my finger in the soil and feel how wet it is a few inches down, that should give you a good idea whether it's being overwatered or not. If the moisture level seems fine though, there are probably lots of other things that could be wrong too--if you can post a picture it'll be easier to tell.

Ecrane....good idea. I have dinner with him each Tuesday so I'll meet him at his apt. and take a pic. It IS probably overwatering...I just told him about the finger test last week.

CONN,
Are the leaves discolored?? (discoloured for our misspelling friends to the north, hehehe) Are they dry?

'no' to both questions. Just tiny and curled on the very edges...

CONN,
Hmmmm, so much for my over feeding theory.
