Something LOVES basil

Roy, UT

Something is voraciously eating my basil. I haven't been able to catch it at it yet though so don't know what I'm dealing with. I don't want to use a garden insecticide spray on something I want to eat. Any suggestions?

Slugs are what ravage my basil. Yuck. I've tried the saucer of beer next to it, which works (they drown in it, but it doesn't get them ALL), but what is best is to get your plants up off the ground so the nasties cant get to them. I only have potted basil now, and I've never had the problem since. Good luck!!

If it's slugs/snails, you can use Slug-Go or Escar-Go - snail baits that are not poisonous to pets, etc. They are made of iron phosphate and besides giving the snails terminal constipation, it breaks down and gives your plants a shot of iron...

SALL,
Or you can use the REAL slug bait, like CORRIES, et. al. ;) But dont matter much, whatever kills them BEST, and IMHO, its corries.

Whatever kills them and DOESN'T kill anything else is BEST.

Best of all,

I had something eating my Basil one year and nearly skeletonized a few of the plants. I went out one night around 11:00 P.M. with a flashlight and discovered earwigs all over them! The next evening I set out shallow aluminum baking pans a quarter-full of vegetable oil. Tons of the earwigs were drowned in the oil the next morning.
