Which magazine is better: Horticulture or Fine Gardening?

My mom is going to buy me a subscription to one of them as an early bday present...which one do you like better and why? Tamara

I like them both, but Hort. seems more technical. I love the photos in FG.

Umm...I subscribe to Garden Gate and I really like it. I like both pics and info. Tamara

I get both. I got Horticulture for free thru www.freebizmag.com. Once you sign up, they'll send you offers for other free mags and you can accept or ignore the offers. No strings attached. I get 6 month and one-year subscriptions to various mags for FREE.

So have your mom buy Fine Gardening and you can sign up for a free Hort. subscription. Then you get both. Why should you have to choose one or the other? LOL

Great idea, Nancy Ann! Thanks! Tamara

Poop...I tried but you have to have a job that is in the industry. Oh, well. I'll ask my mom for one, and my DH for the other! :-) Tamara

Well, you can SAY that you're in the nursery industry. They don't check you out. Just tell 'em whatever you want. You're a gardener. You may one day own your own nursery, who knows.

To make your magazine selections, I think you have to say you're in the Agricultural business, and then your next option can be Floral Industry. Just think of your gardens as your "floral industry". LOL

not really stretching the truth if you are in the business of BUYING plants in the nursery industry, lol

BC, there'g gotta be a catch: I have made the huge mistake of saying yes to trials (non-gardening magazines) and it takes months to get them to take me off, plus it seems to be a magnet for junk mail. The latest one was a subscription for people that built their own boats. You would have to know me personally to know this is the funniest, out of character literature that could ever come my way.

I prefer Garden Gate, too. I think it is published by the same company as Fine Gardening.

I like both...but really think Fine Gardening is the greatest!

Garden Gate is from August Home Publishing- they also put out several cooking, home improvement and woodworking mags, Fine Gardening is from Taunton and they also publish Fine Woodworking,Homebuilding,Cooking and Threads. I would hate to give up either Hort. or Fine Gardening, but I sure have an awful time remembering where I read what. So, is Garden Gate really useful? I rather gave up on Garden Design - I'm not offended by high end lawn chairs, but it was rather short on botanical geekery for me.
