Oh my gosh, Bea, great pictures!

My latest visitor, ushered out of the yard before the dogs got him:

Wuvie..What a great toad! keep those dogs away from him. He is beautiful and will eat all the pesky critters in your garden!

Here's "Bud" chilling on a lotus leaf. We appropriately named him after "Wise" and "Er" showed up unexpectedly last summer out of the blue when we set up our pond. Hubby says he's a bull frog but if someone thinks differently, please let me know.

They're all back this year having grown a bit. There are fish in our ponds (goldfish, koi and a pleco), and so far, no issues. Does anyone else have any problems with frogs and their fish?

jlj.. he looks like a bull frog to me. Here is a great web site will all the frogs in your area. Click on bull frog to read about them . You can even listen to a recording of their song.

My Koi and Frogs seem to co-exist . I have not had any problems.
Picture of my largest frog being checked out by the Koi. Excuse the
messy pond..taken before spring clean!

Enjoy. He is a cute one!

BeaHive, Thank you very much! I think that you are right. Little Tiny looks just like the Pacific Tree Frogs that you posted in that link.
I think that he is the only frog back there though. I would hate for him to go through his life lonely. I have decided to wait until next spring to find him a mate. My yard has a brick wall around it. I can't figure out how Tiny got back there.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Frogs are able to climb well. My yard is fenced also and I have had numerous frogs visit my pond. Yours will find a mate, if not in your yard he will go searching when the time is right! You will not need to go searching for him. It's funny to picture you out & about looking for friends for your frog.!! You have a kind soul!

Here is a smaller one that was visiting yesterday. His body was about 3 inches.

Great frog photos! They are all so cute.
I am hearing treefrogs the last few nights here. We went to Sonic the other night, they have a huge retention pond behind the parking lot and the sound was deafening. They have the 'normal' type of frogs instead of tree frogs. I'm still waiting for frog eggs in my watergardens. I found a snail so far, but that's it LOL. I don't think the treefrogs will lay eggs in there but maybe some of the others. Ive seen frogs and toads in our yard. It starts raining a lot in the summer then they go nuts.

Beehive you must have a great camera, you take such nice clear shots. Mama frog is quite a Poser lol!

Well I messed up my last post. Wrong frog and pic is sideways.

Here is the 3" one.

jlj,yes I have had problems with bullfrogs in my pond, first they ate my baby gold fish and when they were done ,they started eating the small frogs that were born the year before,so I relocated those big bullfrogs to the stream that runs on my property.A couple of years ago friends of mine had a swimming pool ,that was loaded with BIG frogs(obviously maintenance was something to be desired), one day passsing by this pool I saw this huge frog eat one of his brothers or sisters and all you could see were the 2 legs of the victim,so you know the frogs are also cannibals

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Thanks for the scoop. Maybe that is why my bull frog count is low this season and I have not seen any tree frogs for a year.. My big Mama is eating them!Horrible thought! She has not messed with any of my koi as the are all accounted for. Thank goodness!!

Here she is posing yesterday showing off her long legs!

Thanks for the info Nymegen ... I'm hoping that since we do feed the frogs amphibian food, and they "grew up" with the fish (fish were there first), they'll leave them alone. Otherwise, we'll be having a chit-chat with 'em and lay down the law. LOL

I had such a rare treat just now. My Big Mama was on dry land sunning herself. I was able to get as close as two feet from her to get some great shots!

This was from about 3 ft away.

Same distance just zoomed in a bit more! Isn't she pretty!

I sat down on the rock ledge in back of the pond where she was and reached in for the shot. Was about two feet from her face. I was sure she would jump into the water, but she sat there and posed! It was so exciting to have this special time with her.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

I then walked slowly around to see if I could shoot her from her left side. She did not like that and jumped into the pond. She surfaced real quick and I got this shot in the murkey part where the back filter is. I have not cleaned this part yet as there are thousands of eggs that I hope will hatch and become some polywogs!

Took a break and I am sure she was thankful! Back to catching bugs!

On the other side of the pond I then spotted her little friend also laying out in the sun. I knew if I went over there he would jump in the water..so I took the shot from about 5 ft on this one.

Been a great froggy day! Looks like he is smiling for the camera!

BeaHive - Such nice crisp photos. Maybe you should do a kids book starring your frogs.

Your frog is a cutie darlindeb. Funny you should mention a childrens
book. I was looking at my collection of pictures of the last 3 seasons. I was thinking how great it would be to use these photos in a childrens book. Heck even a coffee table book for all the frog lovers out there would be great! They are such cute & happy creatures..what's not to love!
I use the pictures now on the line of greeting cards I make and they are popular. Next bill boards on 5th ave in NY ! LOL

BeaHive - If you do a kids book, make sure to include tadpoles. Boys just love tadpoles!

Here are some treefrog tadpoles chowing down on 'Tetra' fish food. I partially raised these for a friend. She put them in one of her small water garden barrel planters and continued with the fish food. When they started to look like frogs a ramp was put up to let them escape out of the pot.

We are having some flooding in our area currently and I saw several frogs out crossing the roads in the rain this morning.

darlindeb..those are just great. I wish I could find some in my pond. I have had lots of spawn and have been watching it grow..but after it hatches I can't find the little cuties. Sure hope the Koi are not snacking on it. Even let the algae grow to give them places to go..nothing! Its frustrating.

I did find three new little frogs today. This one was craking me up.
I first found him floatin on a spent leaf of a catail. It reminded me of the noodle flotations kids use in swimming pools.

I watched him for a while and he finally swan to a rock to sun bath!

The second new one was just a smidge under water laying low enjoying the sun.

The third new one is very little. She was hiding in the boggy part of the pond. She was resting on a water hyacinth leaf.

BeaHive - I just love your photos! What kind of camera do you use?

I'm pretty sure this is a 'Leopard' frog.

I'll try to take some pictures of the frog eggs around here the next couple of days.

darlindeb. That is one beautiful frog and a very nice picture.

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-H2. I love the camera for all my outdoor pictures.

Here is a great link for all the frogs in the U.S. by state. I looked at OK and I think you are correct. He is so pretty. On this site you can also listen to voice recordings of each species. You may wish to bookmark this site as a future reference.

I think your koi will defintely be snacking on your tadpoles! My brother in law has fish in his pond and his spawn and any tadpoles disappeared within a week!

Here is what I think is some kind of frog eggs. This in a lotus pot so it ain't fish. It's frogs that lay eggs in clumps and toads that lay in strings, right??

This clump seems to be attached to a bowl lotus tuber.

I think you are right. I will work on something to capture a few polywogs. I want more frogs!

This guy was trying to hide under the water clover. Not working!

darlindeb. It looks different than mine , but maybe the different species look different. Just found this web link that was interesting.
I may try something in a container to see if I can get some of this to hatch & survive.

A good way to study the little creatures! I have thousands of tadpoles in my pond! Most of them probably won't survive so I'm hoping to give some away.

Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

Wish you were closer! I would gladly take some!

North East England, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

I wish you were closer too ! :)

BeaHive - How do you keep your water clover under control?

Here are my latest crop of tadpoles (this is a photo I took yesterday).

Thumbnail by darlindeb
Dallas, OR(Zone 8a)

The clover so far has not been a problem. I believe it is cooler here in the summer than in OK.It does not grow that big here. I get in the pond every few weeks or so and pull any dead leaves or stuff that gets in the way of my lillies. It should be an annual here but I have some coming back this year. It will save me a few $$ not having to buy another plant.
Your babies are so cute!
