Every rose - munched!

So. Puget Sound, WA(Zone 8b)

Every single opening rose on this Falstaff has had the tip chewed off and it was loaded. What is doing it and how do I get rid of it?

KATY,
Have you checked for a BIG GREEN DINOSAUR, with yellow spots and a big white floppy hat, answers to the name of Dorothy The Dinosaur??? hehehe

bluelytes, you definitely have a strange sense of humor! LOL No dinosaurs at my house, my gargoyles are very alert.

KATY,
Apparently you dont have many rugrats around, otherwise you would know about the WIGGLES, and their friend, Dorothy, and Henry The Octopus, Wags The Dog, and Captain Feathersword!! hehehe

are the leaves munched too? it could be a broadwinged katydid or some other kind of katydid. they are big, but difficult to spot because they will move under a leaf as soon as you approach. if it's just the bud, is there a hole or just munched over?

It's just the tips of the buds not the leaves. A very selective bug, a virtual gourmet!

Katy I have the same problem! I guessed it might be a worm although I've never caught the culprit red handed. But I'm watching to see if anyone else has any thoughts. I considered the dinasaur option, but decided they would likely eat the entire plant......butI did see an unidentified floppy hat in the garden. hmmmm.

KATY,
Have you performed an autopsy on the deceased rose?? Maybe your critter is hiding INSIDE??

hi everyone,

I also had some buds that only have the tip chewed off. I cut it off and opened t up to find a bunch of only what i can describe as tiny caterpillars or little worms. I mean tiny-the length of a grain of salt and realy skinny. I could barely make them out. Kinda clear to yellowy in color. They were moving around inside pretty fast. Seemed like they were having a great time in there. I have no clue as to what they are but would love to find out. I cut the buds off and will be out tonight spraying once again. I am fighting aphids as well. Little Rascals!

I cut one open and didn't see anything. I'll check again with a magnifying glass when it stops raining. If they're that tiny I could have missed them (need new glasses - LOL). I sprayed with Insecticidal Soap before all this rain so it's probably washed off.
