WOW !
My day is done and so am I!
Too Funny Kell, I made my DH look at your picture and read some of the post. He thinks I am the only one in the world like this. I would rather walk barefoot in the mud than to put on my best shoes and go out on the town dancing. LOL OK, maybe that was a little stretch.
Patricia, I'm so like you. I'm forever forgetting to change my shoes if I had to run an errand. Like Kell, I get down and dirty when working in the plants but I don't have any help like hers. LOL Of course, I don't want DH near my plants.
Dear Kell, sorry to tell you this: but nail shop is gonna charge you double for a pedicure, lol
Kell ,
if you DH was doing all the work, how did you manage to get so much much mud on you...... LOL........
Do you ever trim your brugs and where do you throw the cuttings away...... LOL
I have garden rubber boots, but always forget to put them on , have messed up a bunch of shoes by forgetting to put on my boots.. I love to play in the mud too..........I wonder if all nurses do that..lol

Kell, When playing in the mud like that, don't forget to wear your tiara! The white dress and ruby slippers are optional, but the tiara is a must.
:)
Hmm Tom../. what about the Pink Boa?
LOL, Forum Photo of The Day for the 21st!

Those feet look familiar......like mine on many days. Lately, I have been having to scrub them with a small brush to get them clean. Wearing socks would help but they are too hot for me in the summer.
holy smokes Kell you have been busy lol i have never seen that many brugs in my life lol you deserve some tea for sure on your back porch
Thanks Kell !!!!
Thanks for the tomatoes to the homeless. I wish I would have a wonderful person like you when I ran one.
I also can not garden without getting dirty. How come we do that?
Hap
Oh Donna, I did have my shoes on the entire time. LOL. I still get my feet covered in mud. I do not know how I manage it.
Gosh Patricia, my husband is a doll but he doesn't hand me $1500 for the garden. He would rather die first. LOL
LOL Betty, my dancing days are long over. And Ada you work much harder than I ever do. Your DH does not have to help you, you are 1 woman garden army. You are not pathetic like I am.
Jackie, you sound like me, I am the talk of the neighborhood. I have a real cute neighborhood gal too that always looks so perfect as does her yard. Some day I am going to trip her when she walks by and I have some mud handy. No, I didn't just say that. LOL
Hey Sis Voss, I was sure in need of a bright PINK one in that picture there. LOL No one would dare touch my dirty feet for any price.
LOL Melissa and Laura, another Daver wanted to take my picture the other day and I said you can't......I have a PINK reputation to uphold on Dave's! One picture would ruin me! LOL Sue, I would get picture of the day for my dirty feet not a pretty flower. LOL
I do that too Elva! I also used to leave for work all dressed in crisp white and see a wilted plant on my way to the car and then grab the hose. And not only would I get my shoes all wet but always mud on my clothes too. It was inevitable.
Frannie, when will we all see pictures of your new garden? I can't wait!
Hi Shannon!! You are welcome, Cindy!
Oh Hap, I bought another 10 tomato plants in the last 2 days. Most I have planted, I have never heard of. I can never do something in moderation. I am going to hate myself in another few weeks when I have to water all the time. I am going to see if I can hire one of the people that eat there, to water the tomatoes at least half of the time for me. I was thinking it would be great if I could find a gardener among them who would be interested. There is no water pressure and it takes me 3 hours just to water my brugs so I figure another hour for the tomatoes at least. Help.
Kell,
What beautiful brugs, and feet. My feet looked rather similar yesterday - and several of the previous days. A neighbor stopped by last evening when I was watering, I was covered in mud. I have flood irrigation, it is a blast, water everywhere.
I have 4 brugs that I mail ordered, the biggest is about 10" tall, the pink had no leaves and is sending small leaves up from the base of the plant. I have them in 12" pots for the time.
I do love all the posts, and truly you deserve picture of the day.
Marie
(I loved having muddy feet long before I loved nursing).
My flood irrigation:
Kell, you can find 25 gal. containers at Walmart. They sell them for people to use for small water features on decks and terraces. I have bought a number of them to use in my shade garden where tree roots rule in certain areas.
Tusse
to funny Kell. My DH complain about my dirty feet too. Tells me to wear shoes. I said I do I wear my flip flops lol. I hate shoes and I wear flip flops or sandles almost all year. Dr and nurses got a kick out of the tan lines on my feet when I went into surgery. DH wears sock and tennis shoe all the time. Finally getting him to wear flip flops sometimes around the house.
Oh Marie, is that your little boy? What a cutie. I bet kids love all that water in the summer. What fun! I need flood irrigation too, no more standing there for hours with a hose. Sounds like a great thing. Good luck with your brugs. Fertilize, fertilize and then fertilize some more. LOL. And then they will take off.
Tusse, do you have to make holes in them then? I will have to look.
Donna, our poor husbands having to put up with our dirt-y ways. Mine most hates it when I track mud all thru the house.
Yes, you have to make holes for drainage but I use a small electric saw to cut out sections around the bottom edge. These are very sturdy containers and cutting by hand is energy draining. At my age, I need to conserve all the energy possible!
Tussee
I didn't even know they made hand held electric saws. My DH does not let me play with power tools. I would be too dangerous! I will have a peak next time I go. I saw some at HD before but they are very wide and not very tall. They would take up too much room. I have limited space. I will check out Walmart.
I bought 2 huge ceramic planters a couple weeks ago. Real beauties. I splurged, they are for my tree ferns. I never even looked to see if they had drainage holes. They were so hard to get home and out of the car, no way was I going to return them. One look and Tom notices no holes! Tom wouldn't even let me near the electric drill. Today he finally made holes for me, 4 in each pot. I was so happy the pots didn't crack!
Kell, here is a photo of the Walmart container and the hand held electric tool I use to cut out drainage holes. I described the cutting device inaccurately - it is not a blade but a steel wheel (I've slept since last using it). The container is 22 1/2" in dia., 15" deep. The electric tool is a Dremel Moto-Tool Kit. I use accessory #199 to do my cutting. This tool is small enough for me to feel confortable using; I leave the large electric tools for Steve to deal with -
Tussee
tusee, I love it when people post "how to" pics. Being a visual kinda gal, that is usually the only way I "get" things.
Beautiful gardens, BTW.
Tussee,
I think you are describing hole saws, used to drill round holes in wood. Does the wheet have a small drill bit in its center? I found getting the cut piece out time consuming so I use a large flat wood drill bit that I bought for that purpose. My DH would kill me if I damaged his tools. I use red finger nail polish to mark all my tools. Easy to spot, too.
Kell, I've used masonry drill bits to make holes in the clay pots I use for my orchids. Keeping the pot wet while drilling, helps keep the pot from cracking.
The Dremel accessory I use, #199, is a flat wheel shape with a saw tooth cutting edge. It works fast and is so easy.
Tussee
bettydee, all of the tools around here are now my tools. My sweetheart has not picked up even a screwdriver in years. lol He does do the grocery shopping, changes light bulbs, does his own laundry (I might forget and use hot water and ruin his 10 year old socks) and pays my bills, so I cannot complain too much.
Tussee
Kell, That is my grandson Jaxzen. He is #6 out of 8 grandchildren. They do have fun in the irrigation.
It has rained for 3 days straight. Yesterday was pretty clear and today is sunny. Time to fertilize again. The pink brug is leafing out at the top also. It will be fun to see what comes of them. First time for brugs brings something new every day. Marie
Another pic of irrigation.
Gosh, what a great way to water. The kids are sure enjoying it. LOL!
Oh, hi Shirley.
It is a great way to water. My turn is every 3.5 days at 1038. I can also use my neighbors so my turn lasts 3.5 hours if I need it to. The only drawback is that one on the turns is at 1038 Saturday nights.
Sometimes the others on the waterline get finished quicker and I get the water before dark.
The grandkids love the Wednesday turns. The water is very nice for playing in. (Sunscreen sellers love us).
By the way, I hope you are feeling well. Marie
I'm feeling pretty good. I will always feel better when most of the work is done. So, do you have to water by hose in between irrigation dates? I would love to be able to do my watering by irrigation, but our water is so expensive. I've used the hole in the bucket method for several years now. 16 to be exact. We planted our trees and watered that way to not waste the water. My BIL in TX told me to use that method and I even use it in the garden on Eggplant and special tomatoes. It's still work and is time consuming. Not to mention that Jim wasn't real happy when I put holes in 6 or 8 of his five gallon buckets. Those buckets have long ago become brittle and new ones have taken their place. I can't say I like the looks of the buckets sitting around, but when it is really dry out, it's a good choice. Hope you are all doing well out there and recovered from surgery.
Marie, that picture is worth a fortune there! Look at those happy faces. And look at that incredible hibiscus. So pretty! 8 grandkids must keep you hopping and young!! I just love that name Jaxzen. Is that a family name? What a cute way to spell it.
I have never heard of watering that way except on a farm. So your neighborhood all take turns turning on a huge faucet? And your houses do not flood? Sure beats my hose way.
LOL Tussee, you can't do better than a man who pays the bills and washes his own socks.
Thanks Veronica on that tip for not cracking your pot. I may have to get some tools of my own and become and independent lady like you guys are. My method that has worked well for me for years is I just scream TOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM and he does it all. I am not very liberated am I?
Hi all,
We have canals (not underground by the time they get to us) that are fed by higher mountain reservoirs. We have a watermaster and he plans the times that we can have the water depending on how many shares of water we have. There is a headgate at the canal and we turn it on and off - it comes to up by a little open ditch, some neighbors don't take advantage of this or they are up higher than the ditch so we can pay for their shares - or they just say I can use it if they are not planning to. I have 4" and 1" flexible pipe running from my little ditch to the areas I need to water. I planned the yard so all could be watered. My yard is higher at the SE corner where the water comes in, so the yard is planned from that. (I grew up on an irrigation farm and my dad taught me well). I have the water today and will take pics and post them.
I have a circular driveway and the area in front of that to the street needs to be watered by the hose and I have a few pots and a small area just in front of the house that I use a hose on. That is all I have to water with the house water and It keeps the water bill down significantly. It costs me $25.00 a year to use the canal water but I hear it is going up a little.
Yes, Jaxzen is a cutie and no it is not a family name. My daughter said they were going to name him Jackson but didn't want him called Jack, so my sweetheart suggested the spelling. They liked the nickname Jax and it stuck. He, Walker and Lynda will be over today to play in the water. 4 of my grandkids are to far away and I only get to see them every couple of months.
I don't feel very young this morning - but the kids are coming over so Young I will be.
This pic and the next are of the canal that is the back of my property, I love it. It runs from Mid May to September and goes to a different part of the city.
Marie
That is so interesting, Marie. And so cheap! I am afraid to ask my DH how much we spend on water, he will get upset with me at the thought. Our water bill is very high. And in drought years really, really high. I tell him I have to keep my water use up for in drought years they cut what you used the year the before by a lot, so you better have used a lot the year before if you have plants.
That picture is so pretty! Your yard must be a delight. I bet the kids have a blast at your house. I will look forward to more pictures. Especially of Jax. I love that nickname too. LOL
Kell, Irrigation went very well except Jax decided to take a drink out of one of my waterspouts from the irrigation. It comes from the little ditch above and waters the plants below.
The first pic is of the spout and the second of Jaxzen after drinking the water. Innocent I'm sure. I told my daughter to be aware and have the pepto ready. Marie
