MyRee wrote: Hi all, We have canals (not underground by the time they get to us) that are fed by higher mountain reservoirs. We have a watermaster and he plans the times that we can have the water depending on how many shares of water we have. There is a headgate at the canal and we turn it on and off - it comes to up by a little open ditch, some neighbors don't take advantage of this or they are up higher than the ditch so we can pay for their shares - or they just say I can use it if they are not planning to. I have 4" and 1" flexible pipe running from my little ditch to the areas I need to water. I planned the yard so all could be watered. My yard is higher at the SE corner where the water comes in, so the yard is planned from that. (I grew up on an irrigation farm and my dad taught me well). I have the water today and will take pics and post them. I have a circular driveway and the area in front of that to the street needs to be watered by the hose and I have a few pots and a small area just in front of the house that I use a hose on. That is all I have to water with the house water and It keeps the water bill down significantly. It costs me $25.00 a year to use the canal water but I hear it is going up a little. Yes, Jaxzen is a cutie and no it is not a family name. My daughter said they were going to name him Jackson but didn't want him called Jack, so my sweetheart suggested the spelling. They liked the nickname Jax and it stuck. He, Walker and Lynda will be over today to play in the water. 4 of my grandkids are to far away and I only get to see them every couple of months. I don't feel very young this morning - but the kids are coming over so Young I will be. This pic and the next are of the canal that is the back of my property, I love it. It runs from Mid May to September and goes to a different part of the city. Marie |
