Can espson salt be used instead of snail bait - Anyone ?

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 9a)

I don't know. I use a snail bait made of 1% iron phosphate. It breaks down into a nutrient (iron) for the plant and is non toxic to animals (except the slimy slugs and snails!) Brand names: Garden Safe Slug & Snail Bate, Escargo and Slug-go. Don't you just love those last two names?!

Iron is toxic to snails and they don't like copper either, but epsom salt doesn't have either of those in it, so I guess it wouldn't be that effective.

years ago i had an orange hibiscus that the snails dearly loved. i dumped about a gallon of pennies around it and never had another problem. of course, if you have a lot of plants, you'd have to have a lot of money, and we all know that people with a lot of plants generally don't have much of the other! LOL

TONY,
I used a sprinkling of really corse grind rock salt. Made a small ring around the plants. The little bit of salt I used did not seem to bother the plants.
