Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Crickets, I haven't even planted the Tomatoes yet.
That was supposed to be last weekends project. Now I'm way behind on everything.

Everything is still in the cold frame, languishing.

Springfield, OH(Zone 5b)

Wimauma, FL(Zone 9b)

Hi Blooms : )

I'm sorry you didn't have rain : (

Why oh why isn't the chat up? I even finished dinner! Shrimp scampi - the shrimp were on sale - yummmmmmm

Diane

Pitifully whining all the way into the kitchen to do the dinner dishes...

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Blooms, I remember this happening a while back before Spring sprang. There were hundreds of posts.
Everybody is busier now. I think.

You can have a few billion gallons of our rain if you want it.

Just saw on the news that more mosquitoes tested for west nile in Texas. Anyone know what west nile is? Is it easily treated??? Frightened in Texas.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

West Nile is nasty. It's been around here for a few years.
Not as bad as EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis) though.
(Thank heavens for spell-check, LOL)

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

HAHA.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Andy et al, our total of rain so far for the monthe of May is point oh four
That's four hundredths of an inch of rain.... .04
If we were to get a 3 inch rain most of this valley would be flooded out.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Aimee, I don't want to make light of West Nile.
Wear long sleeves and long pants. Don't go out around sunset.
Massachusetts has 2 or 3 fatalities per year from EEE.
None from West Nile, so far. (as far as I know)
Andy P

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Andy,

I didn't think you were making light at all. No worries. Someone dmailed me a link to West Nile....but just didn't answer 1 Q...is it permanent like Lymes or does it cure up?

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Blooms, I remember a few years ago when a trainee came in from Utah. (A previous career)
He was overwhelmed with all the GREEN.
Andy P

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

Yep, but we have lots of green.... each splotch of green has a red skirt of sand around it.... makes it stand out better

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

I THINK (not sure) that most have a full recovery.

Moab, UT(Zone 6b)

The thing is all we moslly have is juniper / pinyon forest around here with the occasional cottnwood along a wash so our green is shorter

Moose Jaw, SK(Zone 3b)

Many are exposed to west nile and show little or no reaction but some aren't so lucky.

edited to say the greatest danger is encephalitis (inflammation of the brain) and it is usually the elderly and those with weakened immune systems that are at risk for serious health effects.

I'm guessing chat is down again! Hey everyone.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Hi from me, too, everyone. :-)

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Hi Blue and Marylyn.

Yep it's down and we are TRYING our best to keep the idea alive in this forum. LOL.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

How are you feeling, Aimee?

Lewisburg, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi, Texas ladies did you need any markers from the Eons co-op? I sometimes forget to check that forum. Sometimes I try to avoid it!
Teresa

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Marylyn,

What a dear for asking! Wow, you have a great memory! I am doing GREAT. I am only nauseous about 50% of my day and not really getting too sick...on some meds for it but also hitting 16 weeks Friday so 1st trimester is well over now.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL I could get into big trouble in the coop forum, so I tend to avoid it, too. Thanks for the heads up, though, Teresa. :-)

I'm glad you and the baby are doing so well, Aimee. I'm sorry you're still feeling nauseous, though... Praise God for anti-nausea meds! :-D

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

HAHA. I know that's right!

How are things in Houston? Did you make it to Dave's RU?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yep. It was very fun!! I still have a couple of plants that I need to put in the ground. :-)

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

awesome!

i think i've used up all the yard space i dare. i do love a green golf course type lawn as well. lol.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

We only have a strip of grass in the front yard, along the street. The back yard is all grass, though.. Well, it would be if it weren't for all of the weeds. LOL The grass is my DH's job. He likes it. :-)

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Dh mows it and edges it and fertilizes it for us.

I am the official weed plucking queen for our yard. I can't stand them. My backyard is almost weedfree after a year of being on a new home lot and having had weeds come through the horrible sod job. I am still working on the long side (corner lot) and the front curb but without a fence around these areas as with the back I think it will be a never ending battle!

Can't use weed killers just yet, I have put bags and bags of fresh grass seed over top in the last year and I don't want to risk distroying it.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Our backyard is mostly shade and the grass, though it tries hard, is losing the battle with the weeds. Charles does a great job back there, though. :-)

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Oh you are dealing with shade huh? Do you have oaks? I hear grass can't grow under them.

Oh man, been on DG so long my left foot fell asleep. Oh man....I dread moving it!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ok, I need to get these kids to bed and Charles needs to use the computer. I'll "chat" with you later. :-)

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

Alrighty then....=(

Have a good evening and pleasant dreams!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

In the backyard we have 2 pecans, 1 magnolia, and a hackberry.

There is another magnolia in the side yard and nothing but wandering jew grows back there.

Houston, United States(Zone 9b)

pecans grow HUGE! i love those. so majestic.

Goldthwaite, TX(Zone 8a)

Here's some info on West Nile. We try to eliminate all the mosquitos possible (barn swallows and insect repellants), and my horse is vaccinated and given a booster shot each spring. http://www.niaid.nih.gov/factsheets/westnile.htm
