Welcome to morning coffee. We'll have a cuppa and a bit of strawberry shortcake, or coffee cake, or whatever suits the day. We'll talk about our plans for the day and at the end of the day, will let yall know how it all goes.
We meet here everyday to spend times with good friends. We did the same thing yesterday too, over here: http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/603007/
Coffee and......Tuesday May 16
Whoo Hooo!!!! I think I am first...
Okay I am happy for the night since I am first. Everyone have a great night and a wonderful evening.....

Well, it is not Tuesday, May 16th here yet, so cannot claim any accolades for being second.
Sorry gals, I am the real first!! Can't sleep, so got up for awhile. Someone left the heat turned up HI and I had a zillion hot flashes....not a good night!! You'd think after all that cleaning, I'd be out like a light!
DH made a strawberry shake using fresh strawberries- it was delish, but he always makes them mega big and about 1/3 of what he made would have been plenty. But of course I don't stop until I hear the gurgling at the bottom!
If I wasn't so concerned about making noise, I'd start in washing the remaining 4 mini blinds in the family room - DH snores so loud it would be a fair competition LOL
Loved the kitties on the golf cart - anything with noise and my cat hides - she's a real chicken.
Vi sounds like you've made progress on deciding where the $$ will go. Traffic= yuck. I hate getting stuck in it. DH insisted we return something at Office Max at 4:30pm - I told him it wasn't a good time, but you know DH's- I chuckled as we sat in a traffic back up a mile long. He will never listen...
I have a greenhouse FULL of stuff to get in the ground and we are going camping for 8 days - now I am fretting about getting it all done. Cleaning may have to take a back seat for awhile....never enough time...
Hi Elaine - Ha, Ha! I think Sarv really beat you!
Just want to say to maria and McCool, that I echo your thoughts about the weather. I'ts pretty crappy here but we are only at the fringes of the same system that is pounding New England. I'm sure keeping my fingers crossed that it gets unstalled before there is more major flooding where you are. All we are getting now is showers and lots of cloud; so in comparison, I can't complain.
Well, Weight Watchers today. According to my morning weigh-in, I'm now 7 pounds since I started really being good but that includes a pound or two shed before I went back to WW; so their total won't be that high. And of course, I'll eat breakfast and get dressed - all good to add a few pounds. LOL Gotta call someone and see if I can bum a ride. Dealer still has my car till mid morning. We are supposed to have a fridge repairman out to replace (we hope) a seal on the new fridge that has never sealed quite properly. They will call DH if I don't answer; so he should have a car to get home.
I'm hoping that the rain will hold off. Cloudy weather is just fine for planting in the garden and I might be able to get a few things done out there before my students arrive this afternoon. My last one this afternoon came yesterday because today is his birthday; so I will have more time between afternoon and evening students if I want to get back into the garden.
And I have to write a short acceptance speech (2 minute max) just in case I win the award tomorrow. I guess I should be prepared though I'm not counting on being the winner. There's pretty strong competition.
Well on to breakfast. ~~~~ to everyone. Hope you all have a good day and no more rain in New England.
Ann
Godd Morning, it does not rain right now, your wishes came true, Ann, but it did rain most of the night and we expectr some more. When I was out of doors I wondered what that loud shushing sound was, of, course, it was the water going over the dam down at the pond. Have not heard it since I lived here and at the farm only a few times when we had a hurricane. Some rivers are 8 to 10" above normal, many people had to be evacuated for fear some dams will collapse, many are over 150 years old.
Could not sleep either, Sarv, prowled around the house half the night, just woke up1/2 hour ago, going to make coffee and f go out aagain
Here's my share of FlaJaxGardeners motherlode. Just a small portion, I ran out of space in my van.
Additionally Jeremy gave me some of his very own seedlings and starts and Sugarweed shared some of her garden bounty as well.
Lots of work to do today, trades to send out and plants to sort, research and plant in the right places today. (and maybe tomorrow too)
Molly
:^))))
Holy Cow Molly - that is one big bunch of plants. Do I see a lantana in there? I love it. It's an annual here and I faithfully dig mine every year. This year it got bugs so bad it didn't make it- so it's toast. I picked up another one this spring. I could have one of everyone of them!!
Sun is shining, but forecasting a storm this afternoon. I'm off to H/P, then to the grocery store for paper towels (how does one run out of them??) then back to decide what to do- plant or clean. I'll expect you all to vote and let me know...
Maria, hope the dam isn't close by you!! Water is scary when it is out of control. We're hatching quite a crop of tadpoles in the pool this year. DGS always has a ball snagging some of them.
I'm still fighting with a nasty odor coming from my garbage disposal. I've tried lemon/orange rines, ice cubes, soda and vinegar and scrubbing with my arm half down the stupid thing. Nothing seems to work. I end up just plugging the sink - that works, but it is annoying.
VI, good luck on the speech- you'd have MY vote....Can't you just say 'oh thank you' and be done? I hate speeches....
Well, I'm ready to hit the road. check with you all later
Sarv,
Yep, I got a whole tray of lantana, assorted colors. The tags on these say annuals too, but FlaJax says they are perennials here. I know in S. Fla they are perennial evergreen.
Now for that garbage disposal. I personally do not own one. But I have been in many many homes that have them. I haven't found one yet that didn't carry some stink in it. Even 5 million dollar homes. So for disposal stink, there are no economic boundaries. Sorry, I haven't a clue how to unstink it.
I have to try to figure out how to get the stink out of my compost bucket under the kitchen sink.
Molly
:^))))
Good Morning!
Yes, I did go to graduation. Had to go early with my sister since I cannot drive my truck until I get new tags... the kid had to be there at 5 pm and graduation wasn't until 7 pm. 630 graduates so it wasn't terribly long. Came home and popped the champagne that's been in the fridge for months waiting for an occasion!
Looks like the kid and her boyfriend are going to move with us to Virginia. They are hoping to save some money and that we will give them an acre for a house later on. We don't know enough about the property to know if there's a buildable spot without a fortune in getting a road in.
The dam is down the hill, Sarv, if it ever comes all the way up here that wood be biblical, but I wonder about my neighbors who are much closer to it and on flat ground but I think they are far enough away except one who thought he had to built it right on the edge, that was after we sold our land, funny he could get away with it. As a matter of fact, years ago one of them sued us because the water flooded his land, but he lost, because he planned to built there, but he lost, lol the town nor the state would not allow it. The whole problem costed us a pretty penny.
posted at the same time, Darius, glad you decided to go, bet you did too. That is a bright red gown, can see what you mean, but who cares, graduating is what is important.
I'm a late arrival this morning but I'm showered and dressed. And it's raining again. I'm going to try drillling the holes in the pots myself, if DH breaks them I'll be P.O.'d, but if I do, I won't have anyone to blame but myself. I found some plastic ones in the garage that will fit, but I'd rather plant in a clay pot just so evaporation will be less. Reminder to self. Buy those $@#! diapers! Why can't I remember that?
Ginni, I hope your doctor has some good news for you. It's so hard to deal with the constant pain brought on by simply walking, climbing stairs, etc. My knees have been much better since I've stuck with the Glucosamine-Chondroitin in spite of the fact that *they* say now that it doesn't help. So, I'm keeping it up. Loved the shot of the cats riding the cart! Those two are pretty adventurous.
I told this story on another thread, but I'll share it for the Sammi fans....yesterday I was cleaning out a high kitchen cupboard, where I store seldom used items, and found a cat treat jar that my DD had given me. When you open it, it emits a very loud MEOW MEOW MEOW that doesn't stop until you close it again. Sammi the inspector was watching the entire process, up on the step stool , down again, very curious about what I was doing. I decided that the jar could go in the subdivision spring rummage sale, since nobody gets treats any more. But, the batteries were dead.
So, I cleaned the jar, took out the old batteries, put in new ones and tested it. MEOW MEOW MEOW MEOW--Sammi sprang straight up in the air, did a 180 midair, rocketed off the counter, launched off the back of one of the heavy oak bar chairs, tipped it over, skidded across the dinette table and hit the slider doors with all four paws about 4 feet off the floor!! He looked like one of those Garfield cats people used to stick on their car windows. He was all poofed out, bottle brush tail, and the hair on his backbone straight up like an Australian Ridgeback!! I was trying real hard not to laugh, but I wasn't very successful. I picked him up and calmed him down, and he was fine but now he won't go near that jar.
Maria, my friend in Byfield sent me photos of their flooding, she has a lot of water in her back yard as it slopes down away from the house, and a little leakage in the basement. They are expecting their rivers to crest today, Let's hope all those old dams hold, and the rain stops before people start losing their homes.
Carat, I end up ironing things just because I forget to take them out of the dryer. DD looked at my neatly pressed jeans and said I need a life. If I take them out when they are just damp, I can just smooth them and hang them up.....this happens rarely. LOL
V'Ann, I wondered if you were going to get that dress done, with your busy schedule. Sounds like your church meeting went well, and you've got plans in place that are reasonable and workable. I hope you get the award, so that your acceptance speech won't go to waste!
Dcat, your poor MIL. I can't even contemplate going through a colonoscopy prep after what she already has suffered. Don't you just want to get the 2X4 and smack her other kids? They'll be the ones moaning and sighing if she passes away, or complaining if she ends up in a nursing facility but they won't step up and take any responsibility. I ended up doing all that with my birth mother, who did NOT raise me, while my DS and step brother just avoided everything. And they were the ones who got her insurance money on top of it, not that I was expecting anything. I didn't even know she had insurance.
My SB even tried to claim furniture that she had gotten from me!! (Old resentments die hard, we are still not on speaking terms. ) I get the annual Xmas card which I'm sure his wife sends, and this past year when I was writing cards, I got to their names and said to myself, I'm not doing this anymore. It's a meaningless gesture.
Sarv, I am the champion of lazy blind cleaning. I put them in the shower, spray them with whatever spray cleaner is handy, 409, or Orange glo, let them sit for a few minutes, turn them over spray the other side, and finally rinse them off with hot hot water from the shower head, and let them drain dry. I hate them. Did you try the boiling water/bleach thing on your disposal again? I hardly use mine. Good stuff like peelings and coffee grounds go in the mulch heap, and about the only thing I grind up is egg shells. And if you need a vote between cleaning and planting, consider that the planting can't wait, but the cleaning will always be there.
Molly what a haul!!! I'm so sick of waiting to put stuff in the ground. I'm so looking forward to see how everything you've put in looks when it's all mature and blooming. What a change from a year ago for you!! We've enjoyed watching this adventure progress!
Darius, nice shot of the kid! Glad you attended the ceremony, you certainly contributed to her motivation. But living with her........ewwww. Maybe you can convert one of the out buildings as a "spare room" kind of spot ...........close quarters sound a little risky.
Anyone heard from Okus lately? And is Woodspirit back in her house yet? And Blooms and Happy1 have been missing too unless my eyes are failing and I missed their posts. I know the guys are out there working their butts off, because they pop in occasionally. Except Oz kind of disappeared after the "Old Girls" got him in hot water.
~~~~ to Babs, Greta, Elaine, Dmcd, and anyone else I've missed commenting to, and any lurkers who've joined us recently. Stick around, it gets better.....LOL .... or maybe not!
Dave is sending me a new mug to replace the cracked one, yayy!
I'm off. (and I have witnesses who will testify to how OFF I am!)
Sheila
M5, looks like my sister will give up the master suite to the kids... that will put them at the other end of the house from us, at least until we can get them a place of their own. The kid is actually quite decent when the boy is around. Plus, he's rather nice, and calls me M'am!
M'am??!!!! He is a keeper!!!
Ma'am!!! Swoonnnnnn
I should add DH repaired the dam you can see it all the way down at the end, his GF buit it in the late 1800's
M'am Darius ... no kidding? She should definitely snap him up! LOL
Meezers what a story about the cookie jar!! Poor Sammy. I can just picture him flying all over the house trying to get away from that evil thing.
Maria I hope all your friends stay safe and am glad you are high enough to avoid the flooding. Those pictures are priceless. I can remember my Grandma having a bunch of them in a dresser drawer when I was growing up. We use to pull them out and look at them ... making fun of them like kids will. The people looked funny in their strange clothes and hairdo's. I have no idea what happened to all those pictures. Would love to have them now as many were of my great uncles and aunts and of my Mom when she was growing up. When you're little you don't think of those things. :-(
OK! Hi again. I'm gonna try to get caught up with you all.
Elaine, Sarv was still here AFTER midnight. LOL I'm not quite at the 10 pounds, but I'm aiming for it. Do I hear a cheering section?
Maria and McCool - glad all is well at the moment. Sure hope it stays that way. We've got off and on cloud, but so far no rain today. I walked about 30 minutes to meet someone to catch a ride to WW. Good thing I did. I had completely forgotten an appointment for a massage this afternoon but it came to mind as I was walking.
Molly, that looks like a lot of plants. Good luck getting them all in the ground.
Sarv, I don't think I'll say much more than thank you. Maybe I'll make a joke about being nominated in "Healthy Living" and deciding I needed to take off 20 pounds to fit the category. Two minutes isn't much time, fortunately. Sorry about the stinking garbage disposal. They seem to be an American thing. My mother had one. But I've never seen one in a Canadian home. Don't know why.
Molly, won't the stink leave your compost bucket if you empty it and wash it out? If not, I vote for a new one - maybe a steel bucket.
Darius - nice pic of the kid. Love the RED gown. 630 graduates sounds like a lot to me. The highschool I went to had about that number of students total.
Sheila, ROTFLMBO with your story about Sammi. I take a combination of Glucosomine, Chrondroitin and MSM. Actually found one with tablets small enough that I can swallow them. Don't know whether it works or not, but I don't wake up with cramps in my thigh any more. One of my handbell choir members who is a Dr. said it could be cause by arthritis in my hip. But it's never (fortunately) been severe enough to be diagnosed. I just figure most people on the + side of 60 have arthritis in various places.
Well gotta go. Am expecting the fridge repair people soon.
Ann
Ann, my graduating class in 1958 had over 1,000 so 630 sounds small to me. Alas, after being Salutatorian in Jr. High and going on vacation (and moving) 2 days before graduating, I had little incentive to do much better than average in high school. I was SO proud last night for kids I don't even know who wore the National Honor Society sashes over their gowns.
Maria, GREAT pond!
Butting in here again, but when I couldn't get rid of the smell in my disposal, (after enough whining and complaining) DH looked at it and said there was something about the drain hose from the dishwasher was not routed properly? He ran the dishwasher drain hose with a loop above the height of the drain? Something like that. Whatever he did, it worked like a charm and took him all of 10 minutes.
Why does it take 10 hours of complaining to get 10 minutes of repair?
Darius, I'm so glad you went. That is a lovely smile on that girl. And at that age, they need to learn the feeling of a job well done that they can take pride in.
I have employees who ma'am me all the time. Makes me feel old.
Yeah, Sol, makes me feel old... but also respected. My mother would have had a hissy fit if I didn't call my elders Ma'am or Sir!
Whenever I am in Europe I am always called that but it is not abreviated, all sales persone and in resteraunts address you as Madam I am so used to it I use it here too, lol
My lawn guy just came to put mulch on the gardens now I don't think they will ever dry out! It still is raining off and on, just wish it would stop
Well, again, life has intervened and I am just now checking in for the day. It started off bad, but hope it gets better.
Last Friday morning, DH had gone to his brother's in the 2nd car, and on the way home it quit running. He pulled it off the road, in front of a barn, and since that is the day his DM went to the hospital, it has been low on the priority list of things to get done. This is about 2 miles from home. Well, he got DS to go with him this morning to pull it to the garage, and IT WAS GONE. Spent about an hour on the phone trying to find out who had towed it, and is in a dispute with the neighbor who had it towed. DH says he is not paying the tow bill, as it wasn't on that person's property, but the state right of way. And no county officials had ordered it towed. GRR, as RosanaRosanaDana used to say "it's always something".
Had to go to the post office, and stopped and voted on the way home. Then have been working putting away trays and pots from where I have planted out stuff. I didn't take the time to clean them, just got them stashed and out of the way.
Have planted some annuals, gonna put up a decorative gate that I got as a Christmas present, I am planting vines so that they can use the gate to run.
Have been lugging the phone with me, as DMIL is having tests, and waiting to hear from them. Just in for a bite of lunch.
Viann, You have my vote, for all that's worth. Keeping my fingers crossed for you.
Will be back later to comment to all. ~~~~frantically, for right now, to all.
Afternoon everyone. I haven't lifted a finger to clean today - yesterday did me in. I should never have stopped last night!!
Went to H/P,but didn't even do a complete workout - workout partner wasn't with it either. Stopped and got myself a cappiccino for a pick up and a donut for a supercharge!! LOL
Got home and was thinking about what I should do first and DM called and asked if the barber shop was open (I give DSF haircuts) They brought out Wendys and I did a few snip snips. Then we started a game of scrabble only to be interruped by a frantic call from DIL asking if I could go to their house - they were getting a delivery of couch cushions (3x I've been there for the same couch!) They came afte half an hour and then I went to the meat market. Got almost all the way home and then remembered that I left my cell phone at DIL house. So I turned around and went back.
Our lawn is so long that I decided I would start mowing it for DH. Did some only to find out that it was so wet it plugged up. grrrr
Darius - glad you went in support of the 'kid' - what do they plan to do to support themselves? Do either have jobs in mind? I'm not sure living so close would be something I'd like to do. Sometimes I don't even like DH around! LOL
Defoe- what kind of creepy neighbors do you have?? Calling a wrecker and having it towed- sheesh... My neighbors are on a fishing trip and I've been trapsing over to their greenhouse to water things for them (they didn't ask, but things were getting toasty so I decided I better do it) She got a HUGE Endless Summer Hydrangea for MD- I'm green with envy. Think she'd trade it for a massage???
Sol - hummmm just a hose problem. DH moves in slow gear- but I will mention it to him. Ususally I have to get grouchy to get him to take a look at something like that.
M5- I'd keep the treat jar- what a threat it would be to a misbehaving kitty!! I take the glu/chron too- don't know that it helps much. But it makes me gag to take it- I swear they are horse pills! I hold grudges...know I shouldn't, but that's me!! None of you better tick me off!! LOL
Ok, where are the guys??? Just lurking amongst us 'old gals'? My mom spoke to me about her fear I was having an 'affair' with one of them on line. I about rolled on the floor laughing...she just doesn't understand...She also thinks chat rooms are 'sin rooms' LOL -too much TV~~
Well, time to give DH a nudge and see if he can get his hinney up and help cut the grass. If he won't help, then I'm not doing it either. so there...
I got a start on the plants. Jeremy picked some out for his enchanted garden that he is putting in and I started planting the rest out. I've been busy most of the day and wanted to come back in here and check the threads and mail. I'll still go back out for more.
Temp says 67 degrees. Certainly a surprise to me and wonderful planting weather.
Got a call from the county building department today. They said I did not need a building permit for my orchid house, only zoning approval. So with $15.00 it's a done deal. Yippee!!!!! I'll get the materials ordered and set up for delivery and we should be starting on Monday. Better get these plants in now!!!!
Molly
:^)))
That compost bucket is plastic, and I reckon the stench will never leave, so I probably will have to replace it. Either wallpaper paste or a spackle bucket will do.
Whooopeee! Just got approved for a loan!
Sarv, the young man works for Lowe's and can transfer. The kid cannot get a job until she learns how to drive, no public transportation! Then, Tony has to teach her to drive and then she's HIS responsibility!
Molly, GREAT NEWS!
Thanks Darius and your news is pretty fantastic tooo!!!!!!!
Great day all the way around!
Molly
:^))))
LOL Sarv, you sure are on a roll today!! Just had a conversation with my DD about how nice it would be to be single! Live alone. Only your own messes to clean up....sigh. Oh well, he does come in handy at times. Geeeez, what chat rooms has your mom been in? LOL Tell her you've got all you can stand with one guy, you don't need a cyber boyfriend too!! What a hoot!! Better leave that grass cutting until it dries up some, all it does is pile up under the mower blades when it's wet.
I know, my gluco. pills are horse pills too. I usually take that one with food, you know, take a bite of food and just when you are ready to swallow it, toss the pill back there and down it goes. Why can't they make smaller ones and just let you take two of them?
That kitty treat jar *meow* puts my teeth on edge too, so it's got to go. All my hydrangeas have frozen out so I've given up on them.
Maria, I picked up a drill bit this morning and drilled holes in the little pots that go in the planter and didn't break one. Some of the holes are even right in the middle, couple are off center, but a hole is a hole.
Now that the sun is out for a few minutes again, before the next deluge, I'm going to go put some herbs in them. We get a downpour about every other hour. That's a sweet picture of your DH and your DD, he seems to be so attentive and caring.
I should go pull out some crabgrass while the ground is nice and soggy. Those things have roots that go on for several feet. They never quit. And you never get it all out, every little piece starts a new generation.
Thought it was going to be cooler today so I started a pot of tomato sauce for pasta. Now its warm and I'm thinking I should maybe shift gears and do brats on the grill and potato salad. Then we'll get another downpour while I'm grilling...wanna bet?
I think the dishwasher exhaust hose place higher than the disposal drain, it would help to flush out the material left in there and maybe eliminate the odors. Plus you need to run the water for a while after you run something through it. When DH installed our first one, he did something wrong and it wouldn't empty at all. He figured it out though and since then has done several without mishaps.
Overheard DH talking with his brother and it looks like he's coming up here for who knows how long around Memorial Day. I think DD and I are going to plan a road trip to anywhere and get out of Dodge. Let him feed him and listen to his BS. We'll find a motel with a pool, cable and internet access, and lay around like slugs for a few days. Her DH got her a card for their anniversary. A card. What a boob.
Wish I'd known that Sunday, I'd have given him a poke in the eye.
OK goin' out side. Watch out crabgrass, death is approaching!!!
Edited to say hi to Mary. Would one mouse make that much stink? We had racoons and a couple of the babies died inside the walls, and the exterminator said we wouldn't smell them because they weren't very big. We didn't, and it was a really hot summer that year. Sit down, AP needs a lap and a nap. And I agree with the coyotes, lamb is mighty tasty!
Hello everybody. This is the first time since early morning that I've sat down on something that isn't moving. Patch and I had a cow moving job this morning, 17 cows with small calves that needed to be moved about 2 miles, first a mile or so up the county road, then through a gate, across a field, through another gate, over a sagebrush hill and through a meadow, and finally through another gate. After that I took a ride of another hour or so to give Patch a workout at a trot on some hills. I saw a coyote standing on a big rocky outcropping watching me from about an 8th of a mile away, then looked at another rock near her and there were 2 young ones sunning themselves. My guess is that there is a den up there in the rocks. A few minutes later I saw another coyote trotting through the neighbor's hayfield, going toward those same rocks. It makes me nervous for the sheep. Have any of you seen the bumper sticker that says "eat more lamb, 50,000 coyotes can't be wrong".
ViAnn, 3 cheers for the weight loss! You had a nice walk this morning too. I hope you win that award. You have my vote.
Sol, you are not butting in. You're welcome anytime, this group is not an exclusive club. Ah, yes, the disposal had sewer gas backing up through the pipe, put a loop in it that holds water and the gas can't get past it. That's what the U shaped pipe under the sink does. Toilets have no need for them because the bowl is full of water.
Speaking of smells, yesterday's clorox treatment was only a temporary fix and odor de decaying mouse has taken over the basement again. So I need to unload a couple of pallets (used to keep things off the floor because we get seepage from irrigation water, rain, and snowmelt, oh, also when I water the yard) and then clean under it. I think I will wear one of hubby's dust masks and put some vanilla on it when I do the job. A while ago I went down there to get something out of the freezer and couldn't hold my breath long enough. YUCK!
Darius, good for you for going to the kid's graduation. Do you have any news about the equity mortgage or whatever you called it to buy the new place? Expired tags, oh, I have one of those stories too. A few years ago the state DMV failed to send out a lot of notices because of computer problems, and we didn't think to look at the numbers on the license sticker, so I drove for about a year and a half with expired tags, including a trip to Canada. That's better than the deal my sister got, her drivers license had expired and she had to retake the test. Another computer thing, you know, the automatic notice that never was sent. And too bad that it was their fault, she might have gotten by if it was just a couple of weeks or so after her birthday (renewal time) but it had been expired about 6 months. Now I check mine every year on my birthday.
Lol, meezer, about Sammi and the MEOW machine. I would have loved to have seen it.
Summer seems to have arrived here. We went from cold and windy to hot, well, yesterday was 85, but when you are used to having to put on a jacket every time you go out for more than a couple of minutes, well, 85 is hot. The humidity is up, thunder storms possible this afternoon and for the next 3 days. I'm sitting here feeling sticky! I am going to plant my corn and beans, the soil is warm enough and there is little danger of frost now. They can get a covering of straw if frost threatens, but I don't have to worry about that for at least a week while they are just making their roots. Corn and bean season can't start too soon or last too long for me.
~~~ to the rest of you. Got to get something done outside. Have a great day.
Hi everyone! Finally got a break so I can get in here a little bit. I have been trying to keep up with all you busy people, but havn't been able to keep up with everything.
M5- I read that story about sammy and the treat jar while here at work and the people around me thought I was loosing it I was laughing so hard.
Molly - What a haul with the plants. Looks great!
Maria - I was thinking of you this morning when I saw the flood watch reports for MA on the news. Hope you stay dry through all of this.
I had found a really neat place here on DG in the Garden Watchdog section I think it was. It's called Cross Country Nursery. They grow about 500 varieties of peppers and 300 varieties of tomatoes. It's only about 15 min. from home. DH and I went there on Saturday. What a neat little place and the owners are wonderful people. They had taken their original greenhouse which they started their business in and turned it into a little oasis. They put in a small pond, lots of tropical plants, a hammock and some adirondak chairs. I could just veg in that room all day.
I finally have my shade bed completed, except for adding some more plants as I find things I like. Thankfully it stopped raining enough this weekend that I could get some much needed work done outside. The two beds I'm starting from scratch out front of the house are 1/3 done.
This weekend I'm participating in the Relay for Life. I have done it for 4 years now. My best friend's daughter has always organized our team. She has been doing it since she was 13, but is now more interested in boys, so this is the last year that she will have a team. Her mom is pushing her to see through with her commitment this year. We always have a great time and very little sleep.
Need to go grocery shopping tonight. I hate going during the week, I usually go very early on Sunday morning before the crowds arrive. With this past Sunday being mothers day, I didn't make it and the cupboard is getting bare.
I keep thinking work and life in general will slow down and I can get back here on a regular basis, but i havn't gotten there yet. I miss you guys when i can't get in to see what you're all up to. Please know that you are all in my thoughts.
See ya!
Mary!!!! You were having a Rawhide day today, "head em up, move em out RAAAAAWWWWW HIDE!!!!
What fun!!!!
Molly
Woohoo ... lots of celebrating here at coffee today!! LOL
Congrats to you Molly and Darius. Y'all need to start new threads so we can watch the progress from start to finish! I just *love* a happy ending. LOL
Defoe~ I *know* you aren't in a celebrating mood, though. I'm passing the 2X4 so you can use it on that neighbor of yours. I can't imagine doing that to one of my neighbors. He should be ashamed! Why, didn't he know it was your DH's vehicle?
If I could I'd come up there and give you a break from your chores at least. I hope you know I'm just a prayer away.
Maria, tried to call you earlier today. so sorry I missed you. :)
Well, we're having our usual Tuesday night company and here I am sitting at the puter. Better get off my duff and finish getting ready.
~Elaine~
Drat, meant to say something about the car towing to Dcat. What a lot of nerve! Doesn't a vehicle have to be at the roadside for a certain number of days before they can haul it off? On whose say so do they do that? Anyone who calls? Can I have my Brother in Law's car towed out of here....oh, wait, that will just mean he will stay longer, Never mind. What a rotten neighbor. I'm spitting at him. Ptooo!
Now back to comment.
Sarv, you have been the early one several days lately, oh, furnace + hot flashes, not good. Some days, it is just hard to get going, if I went to a workout, it would have to be closer to noon! Sounds like you had a deluge with the parents and hair cut, and a mad dash to the DIL, and then back. I stopped mowing the lawn when DH retired. He got a new zero turn mower last year, and I claim I don't know how to operate it. (Could if I wanted to).
101, what in the world were you doing up so early? I have not been going to bed until about 2 am, therefore I am sleeping until about 8:00, makes me think I am getting more sleep! I love old pictures. This Sunday, with my family here, I pulled out some old pictures, and everybody enjoyed them.
Viann, great on the weight loss. I cheered at the appropriate time. Speeches, ug, I hate them, but I could do a 2 minute one easy. When I worked I gave presentations at least once a week, to hundreds of people. Was terrified at first, then somebody told me to pick out someone in the audience, and imagine them naked, quite funny. I didn't comment on you finance meeting, but it sounds like there is some good planning, and input to make those decisions.
Molly, That is one good pile of plants. Haven't you just about filled all that acreage by now? Just seems like I have seen enough plants that I thought is should be.
Darius, That gown is RED, but she looks good in it. Just read about getting the loan, congratulations. I would be leery with the kids living with you all. Hope it works out.
M5, that story about Sammi, is hiliarous. However, you should know, that as soon as I stopped laughing, I called the ASPCA and reported you as a Siamese abuser. You should be hearing from them shortly!! LOL. How did the hole drilling go? Hope you didn't have any mishaps. I didn't know anyone else in the world washed blinds like I do, similar to your method.
Solitare, men must universally be alike, I have to gripe and complain for days to get a repair done. I started to say that the next man I get is gonna be a handy man, but hey there ain't gonna be another man, I will just hire a handy man!! Cheaper in the long run.
Well, they did the colonoscopy and upper gi on DMIL today, and found a stomach ulcer about the size of a dime. They will probably release her to come home tomorrow. So that means another medicine added to the pint (it seems) that she takes each day. I was really concerned, as her mother died of colon cancer, and as far as I know, she has never had a colonoscopy. So even bad news turns out sometimes not to be really really bad.
The saga about the car is still unsolved. The tow place was supposed to call back to confirm that they really had our car. Haven't heard a word, and DH has steam cominng out his ears!! Sarv these aren't close neighbors, they are about 2 miles away, but since we have had this car since 1998, everybody in the community knows who owns it. If it was a problem to him, I feel he should have called and asked DH to have it moved before calling the tow truck. As I said, it wasn't on his property, it was on the highway right of way about 25 feet from his driveway.
Oh well, life is tough sometimes.
I am off to the kitchen to start supper. Having fish again, anybody want to come by? Also fresh strawberry short cake, as I picked 2 1/2 gallons yesterday, and will probably get that many again tomorrow.
I will check in later.
