Open Discussion of Lily Mosaic Virus/Tulip Breaking Virus

Saint Bonifacius, MN(Zone 4a)

Re L. formosanum overwintering: I dunno. Mulch, yes, but only about 6-8 inches of shredded oak leaves. About 120 feet from the house, and closer to my neighbor than me! Besides, with the plants being so small, they are not planted very deep anyway. I am thinking of one of my friends that has grown formosanum for probably 20 years. Her clump is about 4 feet from the south side of the house.

I'll bet we are talking genetics here. Yours coming from stock from lower elevations, and mine and hers from higher (and colder). I also have the closely related phillipinense. Same size, same age. They look exactly alike so far.

And believe me, I would put solar panels to a lot better use if I had them. Hee hee.

I fear I may have found the dreaded this time. The last couple of blooms to open on this clump of name unknown Orientals look suspicious to me. What do ya'll think?

Sorry. I think you better ditch them. The whole clump, especially if the clump represents increase of the original:-(

Sad, but it could be worse. Also glad they're not too close to any other lilies.

Hate to say it. You've got it. Is your property big enough (a farm or ???) so you could move them and use them as cut flowers for the next few years???

Only an idea.

Inanda, I've considered that as I do have plenty of room, but finally decided to go the safe route. They've now been disposed of, but I do have a lovely bouquet scenting the house now, so not a total loss.

Oh well. Much better safe than sorry. At least it is bulb you can easily replace.
