Well, it ain't the 4th yet, so I am back with a last check. Since today was such a wash out, I am planning on hitting the garden bright and early, and getting bunches done. DH took some of his tomato seedling and put them in their permanent home in the garden tonight. Mine are still about 2 weeks away. So far this experiment has him heads above me. His method was hydroponics, and my method was regular seed in the potting soil, transplanting to larger pots, etc. His do not have the stem thickness that mine have, so we will see who wins this contest. And since he marked his with a Sharpie, the names instantly faded in the water, and has no idea which varieties are which. Mine on the other hand sill have their venetion blind name tags intact. I will know the varieties of mine, and I plan on saving seed. His will be for eating/canning only. I just love a good competition.
Well, off to bed, hope everybody has a nice peaceful, restful night.
Coffee and...Wed. May 3rd
Hi folks,
Can't spend too much time here because I have to go make a special candle before I can go to bed. A woman contacted me about the drink candles that I make because she's throwing a party for her daughter's 21st birthday. Her daughter decided that a peach martini would be her "official" birthday drink, so I thought that they shouldn't have to settle for a regular martini candle and am about to make some peach ones. Luckily, I have a bottle of "peachblossom" scent which will work out just fine.
Robert, the stove looks great. Glad you've been able to spare a bit of time to join us again.
Darius, the drive-by sounded awful. The poor kids must have been pretty shaken up as it could just as easily have been real guns pointed at them. We had a couple of incidents in which the store windows were apparently great targets for some idiot with a pellet gun, but at least nobody has shot at me or DH so far. Hope life is a lot more hum-drum for the next while and you manage to catch up on your sleep!
M5, glad to hear that you're on the mend. The bleeding hearts look lovely. We have an old-fashioned white and a fern leaf pink out front. The white one is thriving, but the pink never looks as happy.
Ernie, thanks for the rainbow. They're always more than welcome.
Maria, have to say that I'm glad that you won't have toxins all around your house any more. I'm convinced that it's not any good for you to be exposed to that any more than it would be good for Samson. My neighbor, the "toxic kid" never even warns us when he's using that crap and I really worry about our cats (as well as all the birds and the rest of the flora and fauna). If it weren't for a very strong belief in the benefits of organic gardening, I probably wouldn't go through all the work of gardening at all.
Mary, those fox kitts sound really neat. I've always wanted to see some. The Plum Island conservation area advertised them being around at a certain time of year, but I was never able to go there at the right time. I guess I wouldn't be too thrilled to see them around here anyway because they eat cats. (The adult foxes, that is.) I don't know why they aren't called "pups" since they are canids, maybe because of their size? Sounds like you have your work cut out for you with all the planned home improvements! I'd love to replace most of the windows here but we just can't afford it. At least we replaced the one in the upstairs bathroom so I no longer have to take my shower between the gusts of wind.
Molly, hmmm, I'm not a big fan of radishes either, but they grow so fast, they're often the first thing that can be harvested, so I plant them anyway. Glad that you're already starting to enjoy the fruits of your labor! Hope your dinner tasted as good as it smelled as it was cooking.
Bonnie, dmcd, suzieq, sarv,V-ann, hope, (and 101 who hasn't checked in yet) ~~~~~~~~~~to all of you. Sorry I can't respond to everything --- must get back to work. Goodnight all.
