For the past couple years I've been seeing more and more of these snails in the garden. After 30 years here I'm sort of aware of the yards little creatures. Slugs abound, always have and always will, but snails are newby's. My only thought was that they came in with some perennials from a nursery, probably in '04, or were dropped off in the middle of the night by aliens. Morning pick-ups and bathing them in a pail of salty water seems to do the job. Perhaps a necklace of shells (empty of course) would be pretty.
Cepaea hortensis, aka the 'banded white lip snail'
Imported pest ?
They would make an unusual pretty something wouldn't they? I've never seen them before.
