Does anyone know of a product to kill these pests but will not harm pets?
Fire Ants
In one of my favorite books, Great Garden Formulas they suggest hot water. Get your biggest cooking pot, fill it with water and stick it on the stove until it just starts to boil. Carefully carry it out to the mound and make sure you don't disturb the nest and dump it on the mound. You will probably need to do this twice on subsequent days according to the book. The best time to do this is when you don't see any ant activity on the mound.

I talk in detail about baiting fire ants in this thread... http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/452021/ . My detailed post is the fourth from the bottom. I hope the information helps you some. There is also a little bit of info in the subsequent post - second from the bottom - but the main info is in that post that's fourth from the bottom.
