my little piece of heaven

Glen Burnie, MD(Zone 7a)

OK...until I get my new porch/patio/sidewalk, I decided to make a container garden to take the focus off of the cracked sidewalk/old porch. Once the flowers grow and fill in the pots, I think it will be beautiful.

Welcome to Noobie's little piece of heaven. I feel so blessed. My mommy was here visiting from NC and we went shopping for flowers/containers together and then came home and did all the work. We had a ball!

If you don't like it, that's OK, just please don't say anything bad. :)

I will definitely repost. It looked so pretty this morning. It's been raining since last night and everything is wet. I swear they grew some since yesterday.

I have so many things. I have to go look at the tags. The only ones I can remember off-hand are the impatiens and the geraniums. I also have some purple basil out there. It's edible and pretty! LOL. Lots of pinks, purples, yellows, reds, whites. It's going to be so wonderful to look at.

I bought some more oregano plants today. Forget the species name, but they are big leaves that are green, white and pink. I also bought some chinese chives, and a canna plant to get some hummingbirds coming to my yard. But the stuff I bought today is going in the back yard.

i always but impatients and put them in the front of the house as there is shade there for them.

You are doing a great job as a newbie. By starting in pots you can easily move them around until you find spots where they are happy. That's the real secret to gardening, putting plants where they get whatever special needs they have and keeping their particular moisture needs met.
You and your DM did a great job of potting them up.

Thanks, Sid! It is really a wonderful thing planting and learning and watching flowers bloom. I planted some hyacinth seeds that my neighbor gave to me. In TWO days the seeds sprouted. Yesterday they were still in that hunched over position. This morning they were up, had grown at least an inch, the cotyledons had popped open and the true leaves were out..and they are HUGE! That's a lot of growing in just one night under a garden light. I think watching things grow is just so amazing......it's so much more proof to me that there is a wonderful God up in Heaven that loves me so much that He gave me so much beauty and wonder to behold.

I'll post a pik later......

One you have planted a garden, you are hooked and can never go back. So welcome to the wonderful world of gardening.

Containers are a great way to get instant gratification :) ...and you are so lucky you were able to go out plant shopping with your mom. I like how some of the pots are up on pavers...as the flowers mature you can change the groupings around, put some up on stacked pavers, add some garden art in there...very cool. :)

Thanks, phuggins! And don't think I forgot about the hard time you gave me in the chat room! Buttering me up won't work! ;oD

Thanks, that means a lot to me!!! I may not have a mansion, but I was always taught to take pride in what you have. I am so happy that the Lord has blessed me with this little piece of earth I call my home!
