Post your fragrant plant pics here!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Let me be the first to say ooooohhhhh...what do they smell like?

p.s. great nails!..LOL

rj

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

rj,
thanks on the nails. I only have a couple on the left hand that look even remotely decent. I am right-handed and those nails are so short and cruddy-lol!

As for the fragrance: To me they smell exactly like 4 o'clocks. If I were blind-folded and did a sniff test, I don't think I could distinguish them.

I'm curious, what do other folks think they smell like?

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

well I haven't seen those, but I do love the 4 oclocks...what a cool smell!

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

berrygirl, sweet shrub was a delight to me growing up. Mom would give us each a blossom to carry in our pockets and we would take them out and sniff them in the palms of our hands.

What a fragrance!!

I wish I had one here.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

Neighbor stopped me in my garden today to asked what was blooming last week that smelled so good. Must have been the Color Parade Lilies.

New Port Richey, FL(Zone 9a)

I love this thread. I have gotten so many great names of plants that I had never heard of before since I am a neebie. Thank you all!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

This corkscrew vine really does smell like grape jelly! My first year of growing it, LOVE IT!

MoonVine. I had an old-timer tell me that to get quicker blooms, grow them on a short trellis until they start to set buds. She said they won't bloom until they stop climbing. Works for me :)

berrygirl & Chantell, Did you find all the honeysuckle vines you needed? Our place is covered with it and if you'll tell me how best to send it to you...I'd be pleased to do so!

A new scent for my collection: "Miami Rose" plumeria - beautiful scent.

Laura - I received some variegated plugs from a co-op - as for the wild type that grows around here...I didn't have any success in rooting it - not sure what I was doing wrong :(

Echo,
thanks for the offer but I have honeysuckle on my back fence.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

This is my amarcrinum. I just planted it in a pot this past Spring and really didnt think I'd get blooms this year. Its been in bloom the past few days. The fragrance is very similar to 'Mr Bubbles' bubble bath for kids- lol!

This peach brug smells exactly like honeysuckle, without all the vining lol
VB thanks for the tip about the moonvine, I didn't know that.

Violabird, hello, how big did your corkscrew vine get? I have some seed and have a limited amount of space (apartment gardening-small bed and patio pots). Yours looks gorgeous:) Did you start from seed or from a plant?

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Mine overwintered as a small plant. It seemed to really like the hot weather and shot up real quick, but still took a long time to bloom--then only for 4-6 weeks. It did get big--covered half of my arbor. It's now reblooming, but only half the buds. BTW, they attract ants that pollinate them, so if you want seeds, let them be. Don't know if I'll take a cutting this year--too busy, if it make it up from the tuber, fine, I plan to cover it with a pot.

Finally got Night-Bloombing Jasmine to bloom--it's almost too sweet!

Greensboro, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the information. My seeds may become part of a seed swap and hopefully find a home with space for it to thrive.

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

Chantell , you are growing plumeria? Inside or??? I would love to try some here in Georgia. I may see about bringing one back from Florida when we visit my family. We just built a temporary hot/greenhouse. Hugs, Elaine

Elaine,
It's my first "go" at it...they are quite beautiful and the one that bloomed so much for me...ahh, the scent is wonderful!! The great folks over on the Plumeria forum have wonderful things to say about Florida Colors - they have their link listed there. I've brought them inside for the fall/winter - as my understanding is that below 50 does not make for a happy plumie!! You'll love them!!!

I am so jealous of you people! ggggrrrrrrrrrrrrr..When I started gardening last ..late spring, early summer, I had NOT a clue about a THING! So, I bought a couple plants and my DIL gave me about 4 that someone gave her.(she has no time). Most were succulent types..Anyway. make a long story short.I dont have a lot of fragrants..But yall wait..I am gettin there..I'm gonna smoke ya! LOL!!
Actually, yall inspire me to do better!! Great fotos..I am finding from the pics, there are LOTS of plants I have never even heard of!!!

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Hey now....tain't nuthin' wrong with succulents...IMHO!! LOL If it doesn't smell incredible then it must be in the C & S group for me!! Love them, love them!!

Ingleside, TX(Zone 9a)

I have just made notes in my diary in order to keep up with all the ones I want! I hope yall keep postin 'em ! I am paying much attention and then reading up on what all yall put to see what will and wont work for me!

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

No problem-o :)

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

OK all come on now......I'm hoping some more folks will post their pix, as I have run out- LOL! This was fun and very enlightening.

This is my most fragrant herbaceous peony, Festiva Maxima. The picture is from last May, but this is the time to plant peonies if you want them.

Ollie Brugmansia. smells kind of citrusy-not quite like those orange blossoms, though

I love peonies, but it's too hot for them here, love their smell.

This is a plumie I got at Lowe's a few years ago and it bloomed the first time this year. I didn't know if I would have any luck with them, but I think it just needed regular fertilizer. Now, I'm hooked and want some more. This one was very fragrant, but I don't know what to compare it to, it was distinct.

Fly - check the plumeria forum and/or plantfilesa and see if yours looks like a Celedine. They have yellow bloom and are known for their scent.

The Woodlands, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Chantell, it does look like that one, do you think it is?

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Post your pic over on the Plumies forum...I just started with these wonderful plants but you've got quite a few over there that REALLY know what they're talking about. Clare is esp. a sweetheart!!

Moody, TX(Zone 8a)

Didn't see Sweet Almond Verbenia (aloysia virgata) mentioned. While not the prettiest plant in the world it starts blooming in spring and is still covered with blooms, butterflies, moths and bees. Can smell the sweet fragrance all over the yard. What makes this one of my favorite fragrant plants is that the fragrance is there day and night...

Anyone know how to combine photos as in a 'collage' and how to paste them into these posts? so much better than posting one lovely photo at a time! I'm been battling with HP Image Editor, but found it cant do this.
Anyway, I'd love to show my gloriously fragrant collection of Brunfelsias. The B. Nitida and Americana have strong night fragrances of clove. Alata, Isola and the magnificant Gigantia all have night fragrances similar to gardenias. As I sit here the breeze is wafting the fragrances into the house. If I go in the front, Cananga Odorata's f;flowers (ylang ylang tree) are releases their channel # 5 fragrances into that area of the house. Arn't the flower fragrances glorious!

B, there's a free program called Picassa that does collages, just download it. I think it's a Google product.

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I have Picasa.... and I'm in the same boat as bedouin. I'm so not tech savvy! LOL!

Fort Lauderdale, FL(Zone 10b)

Thanks Fly_girl. I've just created a collage in Picassa. Hope this downloads correctly. The photo: Chinese Perfume plant (lemon fragrance of extremely small yellow flowers); Brassivola Nodosa Orchid (delightful, wafting fragrance) and Hedychium Coronarium (powerful day and night gardenia-like fragrance).

bed - nice work on that collage!!! Was just thinking Hedychium Coronarium? "powerful day and night gardenia-like fragrance"?? I have to have it. So I looked in up in the plantfiles...only to realize that it's White Butterfly Ginger and I have it already....yipeeee!!! I hope I get flowers next year!!!
