Berry, would love to find one of those burkwoodii broms.I have never heard of it before, could you point me,as to where to find one,and is it too late to plant, this season?,Thanks,Mike

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Mike,
No it isn't too late to plant shrubs- just have to keep them well watered. The only place I know of that sells Burkwoodii is ForestFarm. This is a great Co to order from. It's where I get most of my trees and shrubs from.

Edited to add the link- sorry! http://davesgarden.com/gwd/c/25/

Today Is a good day!
My climbing 4th of July opend. Its wonderfully spicy! I think it may have been mis-labeled. It should have more white than red and have more of an apple smell. Oh well its pretty all the same.

That's just darling!

My front yard is surrounded by 42 Sunsprite Rose bushes, and 2 Climbing Sunsprite. The fragrance is an old rose fragrance mingled with that of Lemon Citrus. With all 44 surrounding my front yard, the fragrance is heavenly almost any day of the year, for they are never without bloom.

gardenguy,
Wow!! Those are gorgeous roses! You have their fragrance most of the time? I would wear out my nose if I could sniff my roses/other plants every day.

I am sooo green with envy right now.

Really that 2nd photo of your yard is wonderful! Can you post another bigger shot of it? I mean, if I'm going to drool...

Violabird,

On my screen it's a 6" x 4" shot when you click on the small image to make it bigger. I don't know what size constraints on photo's Dave's Garden has, but I would be afraid to make it much bigger than it is already.

rj, please tell me more about your last gorgeous photo! Is that 2 plants or a new brug?

Thanks,

It is one Brug, - I grew a bunch of them by seeds a few years ago-- the seed packet just said : yellow, white, cream, gold. What can I say....!?

My gardenia is just starting a second bloom - I'll take pictures when it's full. The bush is 10 feet high and 15 feet across. The smell is so strong that people stop to comment on it. It bloomed while the Orange jasmine tree was also blooming - almost too much fragrance, if that's possible. Kinda knocked you over as you came out the front door.

Oh how I would love to be "knocked over" - Gardenia is the one and only plant I kill on a consistant basis...I've vowed to buy no more! I absolutely love their scent though. I did buy a little ole Orange jasmine last Nov while in FL - it hasn't done much but is alive at least.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Ginger,
I love gardenias, but I never can seem to pick the right location- If thread master doesn't mind, can you give me some advice - I have one now - that I haven't planted because I'm afraid it will die- sun, water - how much- I know it prefers acidic. Thanks,
Rj

HI Chantell:
It might get too cold in VA - I had one when I lived in Yorktown, but that's pretty far south. It never did much though. My orange jasmine is 12 feet tall. I have another in the yard that's only about 8 feet. The one by the house seems to like having a little shade and it stays pretty wet from the runoff of the roof. I complain, but actually love the smell.

For such a tiny flower, these "abysinnian glads" pack a powerful punch.
