Thought it would be fun and interesting to see the fragrants we have blooming in our gardens this year.

I'll start us off. Here's my Dame's Rocket [hesperis matronalis] It's just started blooming and it smells sooo good in the evening!

Can't seem to find my camera, let alone my mind these days :(
Thanks for the pics, my DR is slow this year, must be the heat and lack of rain combined. Does your Abelia have a cultiver name?

Blooming now Pittosporum, Lilac, Carol Mackie Daphne, and my banana shrubs.

Vi,
I got mine from Forest Farm a couple of yrs ago. It is sold simply as "Hardy Abelia" [a. mosanensis].

Ah, the wisteria is blooming. Just taking one tiny piece into the house makes everything smell lovely...

You all take better pics than I, but anyway, here's a big bed of lily-of-the-valley, one of my favorite fragrances, just about to bloom.

Simply lovely all!
Wish I could grow LOTV, tried too many times, I miss it so!
My wonderful wisteria tree got zapped by a frost--got some blooms but not like this old pic:

Great pix everyone, keep 'em coming! I too wish I could grow LOTV as I have always heard it won't do well here in GA.

Don't know the cultivar of this Sweet William but it is gorgeous and smells as good as it looks!

My Confederate Jasmine is blooming. It smells yummy!!

Heavinscent - I'm so jealous!!! I've been babying a confederate jasmine in a 3 gal pot since Nov!!! I put it in the ground about a week ago...great roots...waiting patiently (fingers crossed) for buds.

Before the hurricane I had to cut it to keep my bedroom window clear and it covered the ugly gray service boxes on the side of my house. It got blown to bits I really had to cut it back but now its blooming like a champ!! I planted them at the 1 gal size they bloomed the first year. there are two plants on either side of a tower like trellis. I didnt get it in the picture but mirabilis is growing up thru the bottom. Bright magenta blooms run thru the white in the evening. Its a very nice scent combo!

Sounds like it smells (make sense?) wonderful...lucky you!! So glad it survived the hurricanes ok for you!

Here's my calycanthus floridus AKA Carolina Allspice/Sweethshrub. It's a tiny plant now but it smells so good. Can't wait til it gets bigger so it'll have more of these luscious blooms.

Oh...I've heard good things about that one too!

More wisteria. Violabird, did that take a lot of work, training the wisteria to be a tree?

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Not really, I cheated. I found an old homesite where a huge limb had rooted, so I pretty much had an instant tree. This isn't the wild one, don't know if I could handle it! But, it's now about 20 yrs old! Look at the blooms this baby had :(

The coloring is quite different, as well as the scent. I still have to keep after it a few times a year.

I am green with envy!! It has been over 20 yrs since I lived near wisteria. Our yard had a wooded area behind it that was literally smothered in its purple beauty. I remember the smell- ooohhh! One year, my late Granny's baby sister got a bunch of cuttings and took them home to Ky to try to root them. Each Spring when they would come down, she went wild over it so once Granny said "just take some Evelyn"!! Don't know whatever happened to them and she is now also deceased. I'd like to think they are alive and well in Raceland, KY.

Oh well what a let-down from wisteria but.......Here's my 'Fragrant Cloud' tobacco.

Honeysuckle if I can keep it out of "my" woods and just enjoy it accross the road.

Zephy Drouhin smells unbelievably good- only wish her blooms didn't shatter so soon.

This is 'Lemon Lily' [hemerocallis flava]. Has a wonderful fragrance that's hard to describe.

Berry, have you had any luck with cuttings from abelia mosanensis? Hint hint! :o)

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

Heavin,
I can take a hint-lol!!
I have never taken cuttings from it, but I will certainly try. It's almost quit blooming now, so I think this might be a good time. Keep your fingers crossed and I'll keep you updated!

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

Hay, Im not one to beat around the bush LOL! Let me know how it goes maybe we can trade for something. xxx Ill keep'em crossed for you.

This is cytisus Burkwoodii. Before everyone screams.... this scotch broom- from all I have read- is not at all invasive like other brooms. I had no idea when I bought it that it was fragrant. It has a spicy sort of fragrance.
Funny story on how I discovered it: it was one of the monthly plants from a Lowe's calendar I had a few yrs ago. I fell in love with the color. As you can see from this pic, the buds aren't opened fully yet. Will post more when they open.

must... grow... fragrant cloud nicotiana....

South West, LA(Zone 9a)

I can't get the darn thing to grow(Nicotiana)! Ive tried several times to start the seeds inside with no luck. Zeppy and berry do they start easier outside?

Shenandoah Valley, VA(Zone 6b)

I wintersowed (see winter sowing forum) the nicotiana alata and nicotiana sylvestris and both germinated nicely. We'll see how the transplant goes: it's my first year with them, but I've long loved their scent.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Zeppy - how long does it take for them to come up? Sadly I still have seeds to plant...

Lakemont, GA(Zone 8a)

I have never grown nicotiana from seed. I got mine as a plant a couple of yrs ago from Glenn at Flowerscent Gardens.

I have a couple of diff types of nic seed but I'm prob not going to sow them this year.

If anyone wants seed from my FC nic, I'll try and save the seeds this fall.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

or tell me how to and if I actually get a plant - I'll look for seeds, myself...LOL Fragrant Cloud is one of the ones I have seeds of now. I've heard the scent is wonderful!!!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Banana Shrub, not mine but my friends down the road.

This is mealy-cup sage/salvia. Even though the flowers aren't that fragrant, I love this sage for its very aromatic foliage. IMO, the best-smelling salvia.
