After a Trade

Wesley Chapel, FL(Zone 9a)

What does everyone do with a plant that you received in a trade, through the mail, to help it adjust?

Do you keep it in shade, even if it loves the sun?

Do you treat it with anything special (i.e. root stimulator)?

Your comments would be appreciated.

I either rootone it of water with Fertilome root stimulator. I keep it in the shade for about a week or two depending on how it's doing. It will do better with a little less light to suck the moisture out of it until it establishes a root system in its' new pot.

Maggie,

Thanks for the advice.

I've been using root stimulator on smaller plants, or plants that seem to be having a hard time adjusting. I keep them in the shade for a while, too.

A couple of people had told me that they let the roots soak in water for 24 hours, to re-hydrate the plant. They add a teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide per gallon of water; it's supposed to deliver oxygen to the plant more quickly.

It seems to work; plants seem to perk up using this method.
