Hi! Nobody's been on since last night? I hope nothing's wrong!
We had some rain yesterday, one really strong downpour, but the sun is out again today and the birds are partying!

(Maybe by the time i'm done there will be posts)

Robert, the carving is absolutely beautiful. You must be a workaholic of sorts, too, although that looks like a labor of love!

Susan, I hope you have been spared violent weather and get a nice soft soaking rain.

McCool, you know I was copying MaryE's horse ears pictures? (well, not copying, but it was her idea!!) It makes me smile to see horse ears at the bottom! Maybe I'll do a whole album of "The World as Seen from Between Horse Ears". That would be a neat hobby, and it would give me something to work on that didn't involve machinery that cleans things!

I'm going back to re read and see who else is up to what, will be back, have a great day all

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Good Morning, dmc, amd everybody that fallows
It is sunny but windy today woke up at 8 o'clock wanted to sleep longer but Samson insisted I better get up.
Going to have a cup of coffee now , throw balls for Samson and see if there is anything new in the garden
I shall see you later

Hi Maria-Was it 8 c'clock Daylight Savings Time? It takes awhile for the dogs to catch on, no one sets their biological clock (bladder) an hour ahead!

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Well, drat, I was first and it flew into cyber space so I have to start over!

Cruised the yard yesterday with DH, he's got big plans for this season. Wants to bring out the flower beds about 4 feet in some areas to make it easier to mow in a straight line, and take down some big tree branches that look dead. That will involve an arborist as he doesn't relish standing on a ladder with a chain saw!

We got tickets for the local Home and Garden show so that's on for this afternoon. We also need to get moving on estimates for replacing the slider to the deck, so we can get in line early to get it done this summer. I hate that plastic that kept the polar breezes out this year, can't get out to fill the feeders, etc, have to walk all the way around the house to get to them. Wonder if there's a market for used ones on Ebay? I know DS could do it but he's such a perfectionist, it would take twice as long. Plus he's got a out of state job coming up.

Dcat, keep trying for that seafood. Ever since Maria mentioned lobster my mouth has been sending me little hints...might have to take a trip to the fishmonger this Wednesday when seniors get 10% off! I generally celebrate for the better part of a week too...I was a home birth on the 19th of Oct., but didn't get registered until the 22nd by the idiot town clerk. Oh, wait, that was my dad. We children were never his first priority.

Kooger, what a nice surprise to hear your son sing! My kids' father sang professionally, and they all have decent control and range, but they hate singing. Mostly because their dad would constantly correct and criticize, they never got to sing for the joy of it. Whereas, I can't carry a tune in a bushel basket, but if no one is around I sing old songs to myself, or hum. If a tree falls in the forest ..... etc.

Bal, the carving turned out wonderful. That is going to be the source of a lot of praise when you get those panels up and everyone can see the full effect. How are you at installing doors???

Who was looking for NPR, after Darius commented on the Capital Steps group? You can do an online search to find your local station, and it will give you the call letters and schedule. There are sound clips too.

Ann I'm sure you enjoyed your luncheon with an old friend. It's so nice to catch up and see where their lives have taken them. After our 50th reunion a couple years ago, I've kept in touch with a few of my classmates who have stayed in the same small town our school was in.

Dmcd, lovely shot of the horse's ears! That would be a good hobby, maybe keep you away from that debilitating housework. I think you have a full plate this summer with the new/old house, though.

Anybody fall for April Fool's tricks? Watched Martha's Friday show yesterday, and she did a lot of silly stuff.... that was only mildly amusing.

~~~ to everybody, have to get off the chair and into the shower, I'm already an hour late for everything!! Have a sunny day...go see what's popped up since yesterday....there's hope!
Good Morning!! Just finished a plate of french toast- but DH will be making another batch- so hollar out your orders!!
Spent yesterday with DS/DIL -DS was digging out a good size red bud tree and needed DH help - I went along to supervise!! DIL and I went to the store 3x. No wonder their vehicle gas bill is $420 per month (DS told me that amount as he budgets very carefully!) Stayed and had dinner and then watched a movie with them. Came home and went immediately to bed. I didn't do diddaly squat yesterday but was completely exhausted!!
I changed a few clocks-DH can do his own... It is cloudy and gloomy here again, but we have major storms rolling in this afternoon. Weathergal has been tv all morning warning about them - however, we all know that the more they say the sky is falling, the more likely it really won't happen.
Bal, carvings look beautiful. You sure have a talent there. I tried to carve a recipe box once (never finished it.) I just wanted the word recipe on it, but it looked screwy - still have it unfinished...maybe next year LOL
Kooger- oh to have a nice voice...I sing, but it is awful...don't understand how some people sound so beautiful and I sound like scatches on a chalkboard.
Ann, I've never kept up with any of my highschool classmates - one I see every 10 yrs or so, but that's it! I'm not real good about keeping in touch with people.
Well, I am going to repot some seedlings today and then take it easy...need to sneak out to the greenhouse and give things a drink -they were droopy yesterday
Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)
M5, had to chuckle at your comment about chuldren were not his first priority because the were not my husbands first one either though very much a priority when something concerned him about them
but I was his very first priority and he was mine :-)
dmg, yes it was DLS, but don't we all get used, though it may take awhile, to personal functions to fit the time eventually?
Kooger, did your son not ever sing at home?
Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)
Oh, French toast would hit the spot today! Oh well, gotta hit the shower soon and have no milk in the house. Another day.....
It stormed half the night here - think that's what ur getting today sarv? The sump pump just hardly quits - about 30 seconds off and it's running again. Sure hope we avoid the floods we had last spring!
I filled the bird feeders yest. afternoon, the house finches are fun to watch, squabbling over the best place to sit. I moved the tall thin one in front of the office window so I can watch them while on the pc. :) Good idea! The seed was down to about 3 inches so the birds were constantly switching pegs to get at the seed. Funny critters........
Talked to DS last night. He took Kandyce to ER again yesterday - bad leg pain. I'm very very concerned! They couldn t find anything and it was some better last night. He said she is not doing very much so I don't think overdoing is the cause. oh boy, worry, worry.....
edit to add: no, he never sings at home but I've heard him hum a little when he's got the radio on in the office. But he always quits when I walk in the door -- he is a stinker. He's the same DS who never told me he had a lead part in the play last fall and I ended up going to work at concessions at intermission and heard from cousins there how good he was. I'm standing there feeling stupid and angry, WHAT? He's got a lead in the play?? And he never told me? Oh, I could have smacked that child!! I think it's partly a male thing, DD told me everything that was going on, but I have to dig any details out of the DSs. grrr! I have not inherited that musical talent - my mom and one sister sang/sings in choirs but that's abt it. I make a joyful noise but probably I'm the only one that's joyful about it - all those in hearing distance are probably cringing! LOL
Have a good Sunday all!
Hi All,
Just a quikkie for now to say "hello". Then I'll go back and read everything a bit later. haven't been connected since noon yesterday because my ISP was having server problems.
Bonnie, the only reason I could wear something appropriate for both lunch and the wedding was that I was just sitting in on the ceremony and not going to the party after for the wedding. Because of the prominence of this family in the church, there were a lot of us who sat in. Didn't need to be too dressed up.
Anyway, server willing, I'll be back later.
Ann
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
That's it, Sarv and Kooger and I are forming a trio, or maybe a choir, if there are any other wishful non-singers out there who would like to join us...! If we all sang together maybe it wouldn't sound so bad!! I pity the poor soul who has to listen to me warble, I have no middle range at all.........! Unfortunately I have a very good ear, so I even make myself wince...
Raining very hard here. Kooger, if the basement doesn't flood, where will we have our pool party this year? Keeping my fingers crossed for you, you had a terrible mess last year.
Went to the H&G show, and priced replacing the sliders. Ouch! Be cheaper for us to enclose that portion of the deck, and make it a three season sunroom. Oh well. DH is pretty enthusiastic about that, but then he also plans to dig up flower beds, put down plastic, trim trees, etc. The list goes on..... and on... and on.........
It's a perfect day for a nap. See ya later!
Hi All,
Just checking in quick. Yesterday I used my new leaf blower/vac and uncovered 2 flower beds. Whew,,,,does that work slick! Love it! Was going to let them dry out on the ground and pick them up today when I got home from Sunday School and then the rain changed my plans. It's raining fairly steadily here right now.
I may go and get some movies and just veg on the couch today. Sounds like a great way to spend the day to me.
Will check in later. Hi to all who haven't checked in yet.
Kelly
M5, I'd be a likely candidate. Can't carry a tune in a bucket.. but also like you, I can "hear" it. The ONLY one in my mother's family who can sing is my half-sister, who had perfect pitch as a teen (before smoking). But her father was a musician so it must have come from him, certainly not from mother's side.
We all sang off key anyway just for the joy of singing.
Okay, Now serious stuff, and I probably need the 2x4, not that it would do any good. I mentioned earlier I have another half-sister living 50 miles from here that I haven't seen since our dad died in 1992 and just thought I'd like to see her even though we are not close. Emails produced NO reply. However, my brother told me last night that he's had an emal from her and she didn't wan't to see me... and with accusations of child molestation!
I am SO floored, plus very angry and with more other emotions than I can name at the moment! Time to let me vent, please.
I only lived with them off and on from age 6 to 14, and have some serious memories. When she was 2, we lived in Quonset Point, RI while my dad was on sea duty. My step-mother made sandwiches for the commisary and my job as a 8 year old every day after school was to spread the sandwich bread on the table and "spresd the bread' with mayo. Then she dressed then, wrapped them and we took them to the base.
I remember saying I wanted to go back to Miami (place of birth and my beloved grandfather) and this 2 year old saying, "It's NOT YOUR Ami, it's MY AMI and my mama's AMI"
Where did a 2 year old get such an attitude? And why did she keep it almost 60 years? AND, why fabricate accusations?
The bad news for me is that it puts my brother on the fence about whom to believe. I couldn't care less about what Patti believes and has fabricated but I DO care what my brother believes. After all, I changed his diapers and potty trained him.
Whew, Thanks for letting me vent.
Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)
Hello, and a happy relaxing Sunday to all of you.
Darius, family squabbles can be so unsettling, and I'm sorry you are having problems with another sibling. Venting here is ok, everybody needs that from time to time.
Meezer, did you buy anything at the H&G show, or just wander around and look? Fun anyhow.
Sarv, you had french toast for breakfast, wow! how abnormal. LOL
I'll have to go back and see Robert's carving.
Dmc, I think an album is a great idea. The horse ears in my pictures just get there because the horse moves his head to look at something when I'm trying to get him to stand still so I can take a picture.
My yesterday was a long one, it started about 4am because I couldn't sleep any longer. I loaded the mare I have for sale into the trailer and left here at 5:45. It was raining and windy, and she was shivering hard so I put a blanket on her before loading her and probably should have spent a few minutes walking her before loading, but I was getting wet and it was still pretty dark, so she just went into the trailer. Having spent the winter in a warmer place she was not "dressed" for the weather that we got. Before I had driven 10 miles the rain had turned to wet snow and I needed the 4 wheel drive on the first mountain pass which has steep grades combined with sharp curves. More snow on the 2nd pass about 60 miles farther on, the plows were working there but doing the other side of the interstate. I got behind a semi traveling about 35 mph and stayed behind him for several miles since he was traveling in the right hand lane and the left lane had more snow and no tracks to follow so wasn't good for passing.
After I got down out of the mountains the rest of the trip was just long. After I got out of the snow and rain I stopped once to unload the horse and walk her (and me) for about 20 minutes, then a couple more hours driving and met up with my friend who is handling the sale of the horse, and the prospective buyer. The arena we had planned to use for doing a try out ride was busy with an all day horse training clinic, so we drove several miles back the way I had come to another place.
My friend had brought a horse so she went with the prospective buyer and they rode for a couple of hours on a dike road beside the Columbia River, while I waited, read, listened to music and prayed that she would want to buy. (She is the 4th potential buyer, so this has been a long drawn out process with a lot of ups and downs.) Then we dickered on the price for a while and finally made the sale! My friend took the horse home to her place (same place where she spent the winter until I brought her home just last weekend, uh huh, not good timing, I had a phone call waiting for me when I got home with the horse). She is 300 miles closer to the buyer than I am, and when the check clears the bank I will give the ok for the mare to move to her new home. This mare is one I raised and expected to keep all of her life so the decision to sell her was not easy, but she needs a better rider. And I don't need to be hitting the ground when she makes her big, sudden sideways moves.
My trip home started at about 4pm and had less snow than the trip over, but only a couple of hours of daylight. One pass was clear, the other had about 3 inches of snow after they plowed it so the 4 wheel drive came to the rescue again. I got home about 11pm. It took me a while to quit moving (travel nerves) after I got home, and yes, I slept in this morning, until about 6:30 when I couldn't ignore the call of nature any longer.
I should get off my behind and go for a ride since the sun is out. Everybody have a good day.
Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)
darius - so sorry to hear of the ½ sis accusations. So very disturbing for u and so little u can say about them. A she said/she said deal... hopefully ur brother will be supporting... thinking of u lots!
No, I do not have dibs on the pool party this year! I'll gladly pass the baton but really don't wish flooding on anyone else - it's all in jest!! :) We have pretty much decided to finish all the remodeling projects and then sell the house. Let someone younger check the sump pumps constantly. A smart person with money would raise the house 2-3 cement blocks and fill in the bottom with pea gravel and whatever else they use for a good drainage system. And install back up battery pumps on both sump pumps. We don't have the money for all that.
DD and DGD are stopping by in a bit with a possible new addition so..... details to follow.... ha ha!
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
Afternoon - raining here....where is that crazy sun?? I need it ...baddddd.
Darius, what a mess huh? Family squabbles are the worse - hard for me to forgive and forget. Who wants to be around someone who makes accusations like that...hope things settle down for you.
Mary,for heavens sakes take a break and sit down -grab a book and an apple and veg out! Driving through all that slop, pulling a horse trailer would do me in. Glad you sold the horse tho - check that off your 'to do ' list!
Kooger, I'd sell the 'flood' house too! Who needs that kind of grief! Hmm is the addition a pet? or a new baby? I love surprises....
I haven't done much of anything today - baked 4 cookies for DH and me. I ate mine right down and he is munching his = taunting me with them. If he doesn't stop it, I'll have to make some more. We have nothing to eat in the house- sure need to make a grocery store run sometime soon.
Tomorrow I am taking MIL for blood work, then stopping at her daughter's house for a short visit. She is an artist and I always enjoy looking at what she has done. She is kind of weird (always wants to be alone etc) but of all the 9 kids, she is probably the most normal of the girls.
Well, if anyone has any suggestions for dinner- let me know...
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Well, it's been a long day, and it still has several hours to go. Have been running from 8:00, to church, to a funeral, and now to church again. When I return, I will comment, have read all, but don't have the time right now.
Back Later
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Hi again,
Another lovely day here today. Only one that hasn't been lately was yesterday which was too bad for the young couple which got married, but it wasn't pouring rain either; so I guess they were lucky. I have my first 5 or so crocuses blooming. I have a whole wave of them in the front garden; so am hoping for enough relatively cool weather that they will last awhile. Some years we get a heat wave and they are gone over night. Got outside in the garden for awhile. Raked up 3 garden bags of oak leaves and tree branches from the front yard. More tree branches in the back yard, but I still have a ledge of snow about 8 - 10 inches thick extending about 12 feet north of the house in the back yard. So I can only work in the gardens at the corners of the yard. but I was able to get the leaf mulch off a garden that has many hostas. In the back yard, the leaves went into the compost, but the piles are nearly compoetely full till it warms up enough to really get them working.
Darius, sorry to hear of more family difficulties.
Mary, sounds like quite a trip you made. Glad you were able to sell the horse and hope all goes well with the final details of the sale.
Looking back at yesterday's thread, Kooger - congratulations to DS for the singing.
Sheila, I also dislike McDonald's but when we were travelling with the grandchildren last September (and years ago with our own children), they did come in handy.
Re keeping in touch, it really depends. There are very few of my high school classmates with whom I keep in touch although after our 40 year reunion some years back (we are due for a 45 in a year), one classmate who is a computer geek set up a class mailist and we sometimes have discussions on it. I keep in closer touch with some of my university friends - I guess we probably have more in common. This former neighbour was an unusually good nieghbour. So much so that we let their kids throw a surprise party for their 25th anniversary at OUR house while we were on vacation.They were looking after our house for us and used a ruse of a problem with the house to get Jack and Nancy to the party after they had managed to get all the guests here. She's an avid hockey fan and follow the Washington Capitals around. There were enough of them that they came in two vans. And they must have brought the team luck because they beat the Senators 1-0.
Well, even though it's 6 pm NEW time, I'm getting hungry. Better figure out what I can pull together for dinner. (My clocks are all changed except for the ones in the cars. Even the timer on my plant lights and the thermostat. ;-D )
Ann
Oostburg, WI(Zone 5b)
Here is the new addition - a grand furbaby!
DD lost 'Oreo' on Thurs. Long story but the gist of it is, he got his leash tangled around the swing set post and apparently hit his head on the post while trying to evade a stray cat. Usually he chases them all out of the yard (hilarious to watch!) but this time was no go. She had him to the vet and vet said, who knows? rabbits are funny, may come out of it just fine, may die. Happened Mon., he died Thurs. She felt really bad, was her fault, etc., but 'Oreos' been out there fine for more than two years so what can u say. Sad it happened. :(
I was telling a gal at work abt the accident and his demise and she asked if DD wanted another rabbit. I figured she would as she can't have dogs or cats at her apt. so the gal said she knew a friend that was looking for a home for their rabbit. It was a door prize 1.5 years ago and their kids were ignoring it so she wanted to find a new home for it. And, ironically, he was black and white and his name was .... yup! 'Oreo'! how hilarious! DD wouldn t believe me at first but I finally convinced her I was telling the truth and she called the lady yesterday and picked him up today. 'Oreo' #1 was a Dutch and looked like an oreo - black ends and white middle. 'Oreo' #2 is speckled and spotted and a lop-ear, abt twice the size of #1. DD says they're going to change his name cuz he just does not look like an oreo. So far doesn't seem to have the unique personality of #1 but who knows, maybe with more attention, he'll show more spirit. Here he is......
awww how precious....
Our McD in our little town is the best!! They have a bunch of 'old ladies' working it! LOL I almost never go inside, but I visit the drive in often!! My most favorite thing is to go thru the drive thru and park and eat while reading a book (I always have one in the car!) In fact if I wasn't so lazy, I would drag DH out there now for a sundae!! (no ice cream in our freezer...)
Rain is back - will be shutting down when the lightning comes...
Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)
Good evening ladies and gents,
Kooger, so sorry about Oreo #1. He looks like he was a great pet. I hope the new one works out well. A friend of mine had a rabbit named Butterscotch until a couple of years ago. The rabbit lived in a pen in their basement and was sometimes given the run of the area as well. My friend said that she had gone down there and the rabbit was begging for treats/food. She told it that it wasn't dinnertime yet and went back upstairs. When she came back to feed it in a couple of hours it was dead. That's got to be a shock! From what you and she said, I guess I'd better permanently cross rabbits off the pet list! That would about do me in.
We actually got a fair amount accomplished today. DH tilled the entire garden area (and even managed NOT to till my sage under). I got the peas planted. It feels late, but when I tried before, the ground was still frozen. Also managed to get most of the leaves off the flower bed in front of the house. The narcissi are about to bloom, the helebores are already blooming as are some of the primroses. Puchkinea (?spelling?) are getting ready to blossom and as usual, the vinca is trying to take over the entire earth.
DH was his usual catastrophic self out in the yard. He asked me "Is it okay to rake this?" while mashing a bunch of daylillies and menacing my iris with the rake. I yelled at him to get the #$%@ out of there and he went off to do his kind of gardening ---- with the chain saw. DH is also known as "Mr. Black Thumb".
Darius, wow, that's really strange. It sounds like she resented you from the start and fashioned her memories to suit. I hope that you can get things straightened out with your brother.
M5, good luck with whatever you decide to do about your sliders. I would absolutely love to have a solarium built onto the house, but the expense would be prohibitive for us now. Even glassing in the front porch would probably be out of reach for us. Maybe I should start playing the lottery, but considering my usual luck --- maybe not!
Mary, congrats on selling your mare! So glad that it worked out for you. I hope she's found a reallly good home.
Hi to V-ann, Bonnie, 101 (who doesn't have enough time for us at the moment), sarv, Susan, dmcd, Maria, all the new people, Joyous, oz, Ernie, and all the others who haven't dropped by lately. I've got to go cook something. Probably won't manage to get back, so Goodnight All!
So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)
Mary, sounds like a stressful but successful trip!
Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)
Quiet tonight unless you're all gonna be night owls.
Me, I'm heading off to bed - will try to get adjusted to DST. Hope you all have a good night.
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
Well, I did make it back. We gave been under the gun weather wise since about 6:00 p.m. We went to church which starts at 6pm, and heard it raining, but in a big building didn' t think much of it. Well, when church was over, discovered that we had a flash flood. All the roads home had been covered in water, and creeks running swiftly. So came home, and swept the garage out, as the water had run in there. About 9:00 as I was trying to watch Desperate Housewives, the station turned to weather warnings, and watches. We experienced a really bad storm, rain, lightening, hail, power outages, straight line winds of 80 mph, with tornado warnings. Luckily, no damage that we can see in the dark. I may have to round up my deck furniture, as I heard it scooting across the deck. This is only the beginning of tornado season, so better settle back, buckle the seat belts, and go for that spring ride.
Darius, what in the h**** is that step sister/half sister thinking about? I would have certainly been taken aback at the accusation, but since you know there is no foundation for it, I would take a deep breath, silently pray to God that you never have to have contact with her again, and move on. Will this affect the relationship with the other sister? I know, sometimes life seems to rain, sleet, snow and dump on us, but the strong just gather resources, and go on. Seems like you have managed well, so far, so don't let this put a shadow on your life. Families are great most of the time, but there are times, I would put all of mine up for adoption, if possible.
McCool, sniggered about Mr. Black Thumb, the one who gardens with a chain saw. I think I have his twin brother at my house. He doesn't venture too far into the flower beds, handles instead the veggie garden. He doesn't know a day lily from a bull frog. Sounds like to spite him, you got some serious gardening done today.
Sarv, McDonald's is a must when grandchildren are concerned. On grocery days, I have found myself pulling through the drivethrough to have a burger on the way home, so I don't have to cook.
Kooger, so sorry about the loss of Oreo. His pic was so cute, and of DGD too. My DGD has a hamster named Oreo, he is black at both ends and white in the middle. This is the one I spend $70. on having his teeth filed down. So I have an investment in this animal, and always inquire about his health, especially his teeth. Just want to know when I will be hit up again to take him to the vet!!
Mary, sure hope all the loose ends will be tied up concerning the horse sale. Your trip over the mountain sounds too scary to me. Having been a passenger in a truck pulling a trailer, usually a 6 horse one, I can tell you that "scary moments" almost become the norm. Here, cars pull out in front of you, probably never considering the braking distance of the truck, trailer, and passengers. You just don't stop them on a dime. Especially when each occupant weighs about 3/4 ton x 6, is a lot of weight.
About forming the trio singing wise. I could probably be a good critic. Have been singing in a trio for several years. Although as age is taking it's toll, and the cigarettes too, don't sing as often as we used to. So since Darius chimed in about her non talent, that makes a quartet, and I am on the waiting list to join. LOL
Viann, sounds like you accomplished serious garden jobs today too. I think I have all the beds cleaned, just waiting until the weather cooperates until I can start planting. The frost free date here is May 10th. I have all 288 tomato seedlings, just growing like weeds. Various flowers emerging in flats. I tried winter sowing some things this year, but just happened to think, they were out in all the rain tonight, so may find "wildflowers" down the road in the spring!!
When the weather clears, I am attacking my DM's yard. She has a cellar, which is covered in weeds and poison ivy, and I think that it calls for a sprayer full of roundup. I have 3 new flower beds there to prepare and plant, so have my work cut out for me.
An update on DMIL. She is progressing slowly. DSIL is staying with her, but with DMIL progress, hope that this week will be the last time that she will need anyone with her.
Update on my back. It has been 2 full days, where I have not required some pain medication. So, I am giving it till the middle of the week, and I will proclaim myself "healed".
I am off to check other forums, as I haven't had the time today. I did this one first, as I wanted to make sure that I read everything, and posted, before the possibility of more storms.
Good night everyone, hope you have a restful one.
Hi again. Awww, Kooger, that bunny and the kid are so cute. So sorry to hear what happened to Oreo #1. Bunnies can be great pets if they are handled early and often. A neighbor of mine many years ago had a rabbit, a Daschound (can't spell that) and a Siamese cat who played in their fenced in yard. The fence was a chain link so all of them were safe in there, and they played hide and seek games around the roses, peas and lettuce, with the rabbit stopping to nibble here and there and ending the game by hiding in a big rose bush where the dog and cat dared not to go. It was very cute. The dog always told where the rabbit was hiding because he would just stand there and stare at the rosebush, the cat usually just lost interest. When the cat and dog were put in the house the rabbit could be lured out with a carrot unless he had sampled too much while meandering through the garden. The rabbit hutch was under a shed roof and the goodies from the bunny were used to fertilize the rose bushes. I think he was a Rex, brownish red with the softest fur I have ever felt. He was also litter box trained, so he was allowed to hop around inside the house in bad weather, and was quite adept at hiding under beds so they had to have the dog find him.
My bed is calling me and I feel the need to lay me down to sleep..... See you tomorrow.
Mary funny story. I have to tell this. Last night we were going out to eat, and my Jack Russell Terrier, knows instinctively when he is not allowed to accompany us. Well, I thought he was outside, so go out and call him, many times. He doesn't appear, that is unusual, because he always comes when called.
Looked all over the house, in closets, etc, and was at a loss to know where he was. Had seen some strange people on 4 wheelers recently, and my mind flew to "has he been dogknapped", as that has happened 4 times in his short 2 year life. Well, turns out he was hiding under DGD's bed, had begun his pout, that he was not included.!! Love the little stinker, but he wears his feelings on his paws!!
Well, really, I am off to bed, have perused the other forums, to catch up for the day, now that I have seen all/read all I am ready for a comfortable night.
Night all.
Well, I know I'm late ... no slight intended ... just been so so busy this week-end what with planting out my maters and the Sunday routine. I'm holding my breath even as I say this, but I've had 100% germination rate with my tomatoes with at least 1 seedling from each seed I planted. I have a total of 25 plants including the extra Homestead I purchased. If they all make it, I'll have enough to go in the freezer.
I hope y'all will forgive me if I don't try to respond to each individual post as I'm sitting here yawning, so will just wave to everyone tonight. I'll try to do better tomorrow. :-)
Hugs to all ... Elaine .
Hi everyone. We got some rain last night, but also wind and hail. Couldn't find any damage that was major anyway. Only thing that upset me was...I had sat out my seedlings in their peat pots out in front of the front porch. A couple of seedlings were in cool whip dishes. Well, I heard the wind and rain and went to look and the peat pots were sitting in a pond of water. It was almost up to the tops of the cups, I couldn't get to them without wading so I had to leave them there. The cool whip dishes were gone along with the clear plastic lid to the peat pot green house thingy. This morning I found one dish full of water and the other one was clear on the other side of the house almost down the driveway, empty of course. The lid was also down there.
The peat pots have drained and seem OK, I poked holes in the dish and it is drained sort of, but the seedlings don't look good. Oh well, I still have some of those, I think they are pink poppies. The others are purple millet.
It was such a pretty day today, got up to 85, but soooo windy. I even managed to get a little pink on my arms and face. Didn't realize I was out that much.
I got little Shelby to let me pet her today too. Rubbed her tummy and scritched her ears. Also snuck some of Pepper's LD dry food out to her since she acts like she is starving and I can feel all her ribs and the bumps on her back. Scarfed it up too. I snuck it because I didn't want DH to know I was doing it. He probably wouldn't have said anything, but she IS the neighbors dog not mine. Course now she sits outside the front door and whines for me. LOL
We also played a long time with Wile E, Piper and Pepper. That's probably where I got the pink from, now that I think about it. WileE and Piper love the kong toys on a rope and they will retrieve them from the pond. Piper likes to take the toy and fling it around in her mouth while running all out around and around the pond. She won't bring it back to you, just has a glorious time running with it. Wile E, will bring it back but he won't drop it until you throw another one and he drops the one to go get the other.
They will both jump in the pond and swim to get the thing. I just love to play with them. Pepper likes to wade in the pond and wander around with us, but she has never been a player.
I have the daily up at
Hope everyone has a great night and a good week ahead.
