I will also probably have more terrarium plants to trade beginning of next week. I have two smaller ones to finish up then whatever is left is going to find new homes.

Those leaves are INCREDIBLE :) You have such a green thumb :)

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Keyring, thanks for posting that link to your pictures. It was so much fun to look at. It has been more than 30 years since I have had a terrarium but you are making me want one.....badly. LOL

Where did you get your Macodes petola and Anoectochilus formosanus? I have grown Haemaria discolor for years and just love the gorgeous leaves.

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

I have been buying at orchid shows, but the best price I have seen for them is http://www.oakhillgardens.com. I buy regularly from them, though I don't think I've bought any jewel orchids. They specialize in seedlings of species so they can be a bit on the small side, but their prices cannot be beat. (and these grow pretty fast) They do have a special right now (enable enable...) which includes the macodes and another anoectochilus (dark leaves kinda like some ludisia discolor, but shorter habit from what I've seen).

Other potential sources are http://www.carter-and-holmes.com and http://www.hoosierorchid.com and I'm sure there are more. You can always call to see if they have something not listed.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

You are an excellent enabler. That special at Oakhill Gardens is very tempting. Now I have to go see what I can use for a terrarium. LOL

DC metro, VA(Zone 7b)

I just try to make sure it goes around, lol....

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

I was just wondering if we are going to get a terrarium forum or if I should ask questions here or on another forum. I have lots of questions but I'm not sure where to ask them. Or does anyone know where I can get instructions on how to make one?

Fayetteville, NC(Zone 8a)

I found two big glass containers with lids at thrift shops for the amazing price of less than $4 each. They aren't really jars, but I suppose that they were originally for candy, cookies, etc. They are both very nicely shaped. I'll post pictures one of these days. I only added this to say don't forget about thrift shops and yard sales.

Everson, WA(Zone 8a)

Good idea. I will have to check around.

Dallas, TX(Zone 8a)

Lorry,

Thanks so much for the link. I am reading it now. It is really good information.

A terrarium forum sounds like a great idea. I'm very interested in seeing what others do to build (or buy) large terrariums and how to maintain them at optium levels.

Here is a neat site:
