I've *finally* convinced DH to convert his back storage shed to a potting shed for me. He's going to put in some recycled windows, and a double door on the front. I'm still trying to sweet-talk him into running electricity for me, so for now there is no power. I do plan on building a work/potting bench down one wall, but otherwise I have a blank slate.
The question is this - if you could start from scratch, what would you do?

If you could have the perfect potting shed...
Hot and cold running water, but I'd settle for cold. A hole in the potting bench that you could fit a container under to catch soil. A cabinet with tight fitting doors to store away all those smelly ferts and such. A peg board to hang all the small tools and maybe a corner caddy to store long handled tools; hoe, garden claw, spade, etc. A floor with a drain that you could just hose down. Plant shelves on wheels that you could roll in or out, but that means you'd need a small cement slab outside and that the doorway would accomodate easily moving the shelves. Pegs or hooks to hang hats and jackets. A tall stool for sitting at the bench and a short stool for taking on or off muddy shoes. A mud tray for your shoes. Storage/shelving for empty containers and miscellaneous garden supplies/tools; stakes, wintering garden art, etc. Vents to promote cross ventilation.
Wow! That's a list! As much as I'd love plumbing, there's no water lines even close to there. I like the idea of the plant shelves on wheels - that would make things a lot easier!
Well, you asked if you could start from scratch! Unfortunately, I'll never have anything like this with my small yard. I wish you luck with your potting shed.
You said no water close. In one of the catalogs this year, they showed an outside sink that you could attach to the side of a house or garage that had an attachment you could hook your hose into. Where there is a will, there is a way.
I wish! This shed is a good way from the house - it'd have to be a heck of a long hose. I'm thinking about maybe a rain barrell at least. He called the buddy with the old windows and doors, and Josh (Skip's son) is home for the weekend, so I'm hoping that by Sunday we'll have them in. On my to-do list for today is cleaning out all the stuff that's in there now.
