Which do you find yourself planting? I tend to go tall . I love foxgloves, cimicifugia, sunflowers, tall american bellflower, ironweed and hollyhocks, to name a few. I like plants I can ''hide'' behind. I'm torn between enclosing my yard for privacy and keeping it open so others can enjoy my flowers.
Tall plants or short plants?
Both but stronger leaning towards tall. Okay...anything big in general. Preferably huge, monster-sized :). Then I stuff every small plant in the universe under and around them. Mainly because most plants won't live in full sun here, shade is my friend.
I'm with both of you - I love monster plants with flowers. Dana, I've been thinking about doing just the same, using taller plants for shading smaller plants, though I have both shade and sun available.
Any photos?
The link worked, bp...obviously.
I'm leaning toward taller and wider plants too. Anything that can help shade the smaller plants. Our summers here are like a sauna! Some plants struggle to make it. Somebody on one of the forums stated that 'shade in Texas is under-rated'. I believe it!

Greenthumb, I love it!! It really makes you want to touch the leaves!
