Well, I was wrong (never happened before!) I woke up to snow and we probably had an inch on the lawn. Then the sun came out and the snow left quickly.
Fresh Pot of Coffee
We had an inch of snow where I'm working about 5 miles north of home. After work I rushed home with intentions of getting some 'cool' flower pics. There was no snow here, bummer.....
(Yes I'm still working on that antique house, another week should finish it.)
Andy P
What a bummer Andy - hopefully you'll have a few more chances.
Doing my daily walkaround to see what new has come up.
I do the same Al -
I couldn't believe the mini blizzard today! Then the sun came out and there were blue skies! Mother Nature's been nippin' the bottle again!
Good Morning everyone!!! The coffee is tasting real good today. Another grey morning. I've been told that Saturday will be a wash out - boo!!! Thank goodness I got most of my yard cleaning done this past weekend. I used to let the landscaper do it, but he can take care of the leaves. They have no care in the world when they come through with their blowers and break every blade of new growth - so he won't be touching my beds until the fall! As it is, I keep adding new beds. Before long, he won't have any grass to cut anyway - hee hee
My dahlias have sprouts! That's the tubers in the basement...my wintersown dahlia seeds also sprouted - yipee!!
Hey Everyone! Good morning!
Anita the coffee is VERY tasty this morning...
So, What exciting news do I bring to you today from "The Big Orange Store"? The night before last around 4pm in the daylight hours, in the side lot of the store.... some poor guy got himself in a bit of trouble...
Two other men taped his grill shut and tied his hands and robbed him. Last night I pulled into work and had a few minutes to kill, so I was sippin a coffee (of course) and along comes a channel 10 news van. At 4am this morning they start shining lights at the front of the store, on my way to punch out at 5:30am, a rather stern voice came over the PA stating that NO "The Big Orange Store" employees are to make any statements to the press! LOL!!!
And the moral of the story is just because you don't work at an all night gas station doesn't mean you can't get jumped...oh and you might not want to do your business on the side of buildings where strange poeple might find you an easy target! What that guy was doing there is beyond me, theres not a thing over there of any interest at all, all the dumpesters with the good stuff are on the other side! LOL! Watch the news for me, and let me know what you find out...I'll be fast asleep, and wont get to see it tonight, oh and you might see me walking to my van, cuz they were filming when I left for home. Depends on what they edit out I guess!
I hope its nice out this weekend, I miss my gardens! I'm dieing to see what going on out there. I think I need a dirt fix! Get your selves to "The Big Orange Store" tell them you want a discount on the half dead stuff that they haven't watered in next to forever...heads up, go the day after Easter and look for the Lilies to be reduced they need to get rid of them quick so they can put out other stuff thats expected in... and watch out for invasives, they are on every shelf and table, make a list of no nos and bring it with you, they are ever so tempting and even more so on sale! (they are selling ground covers like they are going out of style and my heart breaks every time I have to put Perriwinkle on the tables. They are also selling Water plants, and I saw Horsetail Rush, be careful to keep it contained if you have to have it!!!! BAD NEWS in a plastic box with a pretty lable!
Ok thats it from "The Big Orange". I'm off to bed!
OH poop! Before I forget...read the lables and check for dates on containers of plant care products, some of them are stored well lets just say they could have been wintered over alittle better....
toodles!
Dena ; )
Dena - what kind of Orange Julius do you work at with such crime?
Sounds like you are torturing plants to get them to talk also.
Anita - what dahlias do you have?
Well Dena, Glad you're safe. Unlike the guy and the plants.
Dave
UW plays in the hockey final tomorrow against some east team.
Al - I'm bad and have no idea of the names. I've always been into gardening and know which plant is which, but I've never kept track of names of plants until I joined this bunch here. I've learned so much in the short time that I've been a member. I do have a few on order from Brecks -
DAHLIA BLUE STAR/ZB
DAHLIA HOLLAND FESTIVAL/ZB
DAHLIA KARMA CORONA/ZB
and I will try to keep them labeled. The seeds were a general Border Series.
Well, this morning is beautiful, but that will rapidly change I'm told. Rain this afternoon through Sunday - of course! Gives me time to do some indoor stuff - like posting [second job], making my sister's Wedding Shower Thank You cards and memory album and the dreaded cleaning!
Al, Go Badgers! (Is that the right mascot name?) The eastern team is probably from Boston. There is a lot of goodcollege hockey there.
Anita, I hope that forcast is wrong. I've got work to do! I will actually be removing a garden for the first time in my life (by family request). I am replacing it with a new one about 4 times as large so its palatable. Going with a lot of roses (but not a rose garden per se) but all of the repeat blooming, low maintenance, no chemical sprays required variety. First my Bonica roses and then the rose forum have gotten me to see roses in a whole new light.
Hi everyone!
I see some flowers coming up and its motivating me to get moving!
I sort of got bogged down with this spur of the moment project to put up an arbor thingy in the garden (ADD boy at it again), because I didn't have enough going. Its about half done in this pic. So heres my question. I want to train my cuces and peas up this, but they won't get too far up *(it is 8' tall). I am afraid to plant the morning glories in the garden because I wan't sure if they would "choke" the vining veggies. SO....any suggestions on what I should interplant to vine up and occupy the space?
You Go Wormboy! My money is on you having a full-fiedged botanical garden by next year! ;)
I don't know which vines are more or less choking, but I wonder if you're underestimating how tall the cukes will grow?
Dave
I'm not sure about the morning glories - Al would know. I think the trellis is perfect for the veggies. 8' tall??? How tall does that make you???
Dave- I hope it's wrong too...I want nice weather on my weekends - let it rain during the week!
Dave - Badgers play Boston College after beating Maine last night.
Wormy - peas would have no problem reaching 8', my neighbor has cukes climbing and I don't think they get that high - 6' or so - your results may vary. I don't recommend to mix in Morning Glories with that - then you would have all Morning Glories. I am betting the peas would fill it up pretty well. One of the neverending challenges of gardening is to leave empty spaces for plants to fill in.
Anita - I know the Karma series - what does zb mean?
Dena - I didn't see you on the news or in the Home Julius I was in tonight - no plants bought, just dirt.
no clue Al
Anita! That's not a very nice thing to say about Al!
LOL - I should say that about me when it comes to keeping track of all the names of these plants!! Al is my personalized, at times illustrated, gardening encylopedia!
Anita - I guess that's your summer project to get your plants inventoried or mapped. I made maps of mine and see that some of my tags are missing and need to be replaced - for some reason or someone - I don't know it just needs to be done.
cold here this morning ....24, glad to finally say that is cold.
Anita, You use Adobe PhotoShop, don't you?
Have you ever used the "Unsharp Mask" feature?
In the tool bar -> filter -> sharpen -> unsharp mask.
Try it at 100 with a radius of 2.0. Amazing.
Amazing.
That's part of the reason I've been scarce in these parts for the last week of so.
I've been enhancing my pics.
All thanks to www.PhotographyCorner.com site.

Three posts on this thread on a rainy Saturday! Boy, did we get old. Rumor has it that Dena will make her first, recent prime time appearence any minute now.
Who you calling old Dave147!
Oh, by the way, do you guys know about Messenger? Its getting rave reviews as a plant immune & growth booster. Can't remember if anyone here was over on the messenger threads on the rose forum.
I bought some. Can't wait to try it.
Hello bigoldcity al!! How have you been?
I don't do much inside seeding. Is it for outside also?
I potted up 5 more dahlia today, which is good because I have 20-30 coming in this week. I seriously don't have a problem - do I?
Family is on a road trip to Iowa tomorrow.
You can use it on any seeds but its original use is for plants

Man, You love your dahlias. I actually caught 30 seconds of the Badgers playing BC. They were behind 1-0. I hope they beat BC! They are traitors (sneakily snuck out of the Big East). Plus, you!
Back by popular demand... DENA
Gee Dave, Thanks for the announcement of my arrival!
Hi everyone! I miss you!
Did you have the sound on on your computer? Because there was a fanfare of trumpets. How was work? You operate forklifts yet?
Hey Al! How you doing? I think you are in need of a name change....howz about DahliaKing?
Hey Andy! What was for breakfast today? Hows "That Old House" coming along? LOL!
Hi Anita, I love all your flower pictures. So sorry it rained on us today, I was telling Dave, everytime it rains on the weekend I feel awful for you. Its no good for me either, the weekends are the only time I'm awake during a good portion of the day to do any good in my gardens!
Dave, I have so much fun at work, my boss is cool, and the lift trucks are so fun to use. I'll be wicked buff by the end of next month, I get a work out every night I work. Last night I put away sledge hammers and axes, and fourty pound latters, then we went to luch at 2am, and then I stocked bags of cement, and then all the little tiny plumbing fittings. Monday night some of the guys are putting together a couple of yard swings for display in the garden center, I was told I could test drive them on my break! LOL!
Just watching the end of the game here.
I have my spring trades going out and coming in this week.
Dena, You must be so much fun to work with!. I carried around a lot of bags of cement in my youth (family of bricklayers). I was glad when my mouth & my pen became my biggest tools. Then again, I haven't been buff in a while either.
Al, What do you mean re spring trades??
Al, some of the Border Dahlia seeds are sprouting for me! I hope they aren't as adictive as you make them seem, I might be in trouble!
Anyone else having occassional trouble posting tonight?
UW won!
Dena - I'll have a few named varieties for you to get a taste of snobery - ha ha.
The truly addicted have 150-200 plants - so I'm good yet.
