Fresh Pot of Coffee

Al, Not sure Meg visits this thread. She is busy looking for a trellis on her own thread.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I store mine in shreaded paper. So far it seems to work well.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Hey Anita! I gave up on moving my dahlia tubors in, then back out. But I do kind of miss them.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

I gave up on my gladiolas.

Hey Andy - I found my cyclamen cowpie - is that what they're called?
I'll try it inside this year.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Supposed to get some rain here tomorrow. I think I'll spend that time taking in a class at Van Wilgin's Nursery. Happy April!

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Figures..it's raining! I hope it dries out later. I supposed to be nice tomorrow so hopefully I'll get alot done then. Gives me time to get some posting [2nd job] done.

Cool Dave! What class are you taking?

I was thinking of starting my glads too. I could probably plant them out. Hey Al - I'm starting the Canna's/EE's and dahlia's indoors, but my ground is not frozen - hasn't been. Can I actually plant them out instead?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Anita - I think glads can handle cold wet ground better than dahlia or canna. I would still wait until you are closer to your last frost date.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Al, I bring in all my 'tender' bulbs. Those Dahlias we 'sacrificed' because I didn't want to bother staking those 5 foot tall ones.
All my bulbs get stored in paper bags packed in covered cardboard boxes on the basement floor. No problems that way. I divide the Dahlias in Spring. It's a pleasant 'sit down' task for a sunny day in April.
I have not checked them yet, they wake up if I open the boxes to look.
I usually have 50 to 60 Dahlias (all Redskin).
I lift the Glads too.

These have been the 'forgotten ones' for years.
Did I post this pic before, I forget.
Glad corms I lifted this Winter from a warm spot against the foundation. A few were sitting on the surface and surely would not survive. They had been out there for 5 or 6 years. Some got very big. Now I have to find a place to plant these also.
So many plants, so little room......

Wow! You have tulips open?! Pretty hellebore. I have a dark purple and a white. What are the little yellow things?

I never went to a class. I planned on going during the rain but we didn't have any except very early and not again till later afternoon. I got to work 5 or 6 hours in the yard. Then I came in and sowed 3 flats of seeds during the showers. Now its nice out again.
I had a lot of stuff hiding under the leaves in my bed. The meadow rue looked pretty. Tomorrow is DST and I'm one happy gardening dude!

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Foolish me! I set up an appointment for 9:30 tomorow not thinking it will be more like 8:30. Woe is me.

Here is a bunch of Chinodoxa I snapped today.

I will hopefully be in the garden at that time Andy!

Dave, the little yellow ones are crocus. I got alot of gardening in too just before the down pour that I think hit your area too.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

My bad dst memory was I had started at a new job going in at 7 the week before the time change and then the genious manager said to start at 6 after the time change - brilliant! I never fully recovered from that and quit a few months later.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

How did I miss Anitas colage? So pretty.
Yea, How do you have tulips already?
This is my first Daff, after the sprinkle we had, just before sunset.

Not only does she have tulips before she is supposed to; she has triangular crocus!?

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I wiggled my nose!

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Got the rest of my stored plants potted up. These canna rhizomes are huge - I don't know how to divide them, but I probably have enough already.

Al, One of them has grown right around a pruner!

Did you get a lot done today?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Trying to hide here as there are 3 kids sleeping over here tonight.
I got work done in the garage with dirt, the rest of the day was family stuff.
Have you ever seen lily pad roots floating in the spring on a lake - they sure show the resemblence to the canna.

West Warwick, RI(Zone 6b)

Hi Dave, Al, Anita, and Andy.
Anita, your flowers are so beautiful!
Andy the Chinodoxa are lovely! I don't think I have ever seen them so intensly blue before.
Al, those are some healthy looking canna rhizomes! How long have you had them?

I got home from work this morning and did some yard work, I then fell asleep sitting on my yard swing and when I woke up there was a robbin trying to take off with my shoe laces! I tried not to scare it off but it was so funny I couldn't help giggling and it noticed I was there and flew off.
How is everyone else doing?

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Dena that is funny. Robin's are funny- last year we had one that kept trying to build a nest on a 2" wide ledge on our house and kept failing - then it built one 20' up in a tree at the end of a branch ( so odd). I put up a platform for it to nest on this year we'll see if it uses it.

My canna are 3 or 4 years old, but I usually lose half of the rhizomes.
I counted up my dahlia and have 35 varieties with about 20 to come yet.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Hey Dena (Gena)! It thought your laces were a worm! I'm good. Great productive day.

Al, I never saw them floating on a pond. But I've seen them when I planted them, so I think I know what you mean.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm taking a shore break - I can't believe how wonderful it is outside. I 've gotten so much done!!! I took a few more pics and included some more tulips for you guys!

Nice Dave. Is that an actual large rock that is behind it?

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

I inherited a large patch. Bad year for them though. I usually get 50 to 100 sq ft of em in one area then individuals all over my yard.
Hellebore:

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Yes. Its a stone outcropping.
Can you see the waterfall? It came out tiny looking.
Other hellebore that I mistatenly took as movie. Hope it works.

Appleton, WI(Zone 5a)

Attack of the killer hellebores I would assume.
Yes I can see the waterfall - a couple feet up or so.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Well, it didn't work. My answers were 2 posts behind your questions. Hopefully you made sense of it. Is it my computer, or is it slow to send pictures for everyone?

More leaf clean-up, some grading, second stage of pond clean-up, hose repair and a few other odds and ends.
Told Danny he could have a nickle for each stick he put in the garden cart. Even though I'd already picked up a bunch of branches, he cashed in at $17.05! And that was with me disqualifying the tiny ones!
He wants it in actual nickels! (341?)

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

he planning on playing the slots?

Nice pond..I've wanted one, but keep putting it off. The upload time varies.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

Good morning all!!! Dreary day here...but I won't complain as long as it rains during the week and leaves my weekends alone! After all...April showers bring May flowers...

It's so much fun watching the birds..I've been watching a chickadee couple who stick together like glue. They go from tree to shrub to tree all the way around my yard and then back to the bird house. When I was having lunch while at work the other day, I was watching the pidgeons. There was one who was just plain annoying!! One, I'll assume the male, kept nudging is way real close to another. The other kept walking away. This went on and on. If that was me, I would have turned around and said, 'Get lost already!!!'

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Anita, 'Tis the season.
We had a welcomed 6/10 inch of rain.
Andy P

Brimfield, MA(Zone 5a)

Eeeeek!!! We got an inch of snow on the ground today here in Brimfield!!!!! We wore shorts this weekend and we get snow today, ya gotta love New England.

Grumpy in Brimfield,
Megan

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Megan, Bummer. We are supposed to have a chance of snow showers in the morning, but I doubt it.
It stinks taking this step backward with the weather, BUT:
1) It will be shortlived
2)As Anita said, its during the work week.

Long Island, NY(Zone 6b)

better snow than frost! We've been having rain still. The bad part about it is that it makes it hard to get up. I've also noticed that everyone is so tired on rainy days. I wonder if it's psychological or the greyness or the low pressure? Anyone else notice that?

elkland, PA(Zone 5b)

Hi all just wanted to drop in to say hello,it is snowing outside, but that means i can get things done inside, going to start my herb seeds inside and maybe my late summer flowers also, as far as rainy and gray days i notice people do tend to be more tired i think it has something to do with the lack of bright light that the sun puts out and the way the body absorbs it,i heard if you put natural light in your house and office you will feel better.

Talk to you later, have a great day...............still snowing!!!
