Oh, look who's first today!! Not really, I just haven't gone to bed yet! LOL

Caistor, United Kingdom(Zone 8b)

Morning everyone!! Wake up all. Well it's 1:23a.m. here and I am not sleeping again/still. Off to read all of yesterdays coffee and roam the forums....Lauri

south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)

Morning everyone -this old sorry bag of bones is up but not feeling 100%. We traveled with DS/DIL down to Cabellas - 3 hr drive one way. DS tailgates terribly and I was crunched in the back seat. Buy the time we got there my hips, legs, and butt hurt so bad (and my jaw from trying not to scream - slow down!!!) ....we were there for several hours and it was packed!! It is one of those 'been there-done that' kind of places. DS got three fishing poles, three reels, and a zillion other little things...DIL and I people watched...

Stopped at "Joe's crab shack" for dinner - ok, but not tops..

defoe - ya Berea is the place we went. It was a gorgeous day and we had a delightful tour guide - one of my favorite places to visit..so interesting.

I think the things I was referring to were called 'rag rugs' - Someday I will learn how to do them. My old aunt used to make the kind of rag rugs that are woven together with string. Those things wore forever....but were slippery!! I found some down at IKEA and bought three. They said they couldn't be washed tho - good grief - they must be a one use kinda of thing!! I'm going to try washing them anyhow on gentle. They weren't expensive, so I won't be out much.

9kit - that Millet seed is easy to start. I forgot to collect any this year - shame on me. There is a new one on the market called (oops name just flew away) anyhow it has more green in it and is a tad shorter.

dm - I used to think my down time was in Feb, but I think it is really in March when I expect it to be warmer than it is. The next whole week is supposed to be below temps here - sigh....I do think I need to go to warmer weather....

Molly - painted formica??? Didn't it just chip off??? Next time you find any 50 cent perennials, you are to buy all they have....and mail them off to the rest of us... You guys must have the corner on bargains down there. Nice looking tree too... Oh, I just remembered I have some white morning glory seeds from you that I need to round up. hmm, wonder which box they are in

Yuck on taking wallpaper off - one of the worse jobs I can think of. Mine always comes off in little stinking pieces - at least I haven't destroyed the walls doing it (ok, just a little bit of it had to be repaired LOL) Would you believe that I heard wallpaper is coming back!!! I still have two of our unsed bedrooms papered...maybe they will be in style again soon!!

Maria - glad Samson has his hood off. He'll be a happy boy now. Sorry the kitchen thing died on you. Oh well, it's fun to get something new.. I agree on the taxes thing - we always have to pay too. Makes me just sick...guess we are just too honest...

Mary - haven't heard much about your trail riding- are you taking a break from it all?

I'm sitting here looking at all the cob webs on the walls - we have rough sawn pine in our family room/kitchen that is downstairs. It is a magnet for dust and webs. As soon as we are done heating this season, I need to take a broom and de-web all the walls - not my favorite task.

DM just emailed me that she ended up in the Em room - passing blood. She ended up with a whopper of kidney infection. She is getting these far too often....worries me. I've never had one (knocking on wood) but she tells me she thinks she is gonna die when she has one. They'll be coming home in 3 weeks- such a worry having them on the road...

Time for the Sunday paper and my lounge chair/heating pad!! Take care everyone!!

Any strawberry shortcake left??? (I'll pass on the onions for now.)

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

I am still cleaning, lol. My in-laws will be here about 2-3 p.m. today. The light fixture in the living room ceiling had turned amber from the residues of the propane heater. Listen up y'all. NEVER get an unvented propane heater. Even if you are very careful to allow a cracked-open window for ventilation, and scum covers everything in the house Curtains have to be cleaned much more often as they look like 6 smokers live in the house,. Clocks, mirrors, pictures, shelving have to be cleaned so much more often. And the windows.....I wash windows all the time.
Will be so glad when the remodeling job happens and I get a new heat pump.
It looks like the spousal unit cooked all night. He has a huge roast finished and some special fried cabbage, a recipe inheirited from his Dad that the whole family covets. Although I'd rather have his Dad back. How strange to lose your best friend and he's your DFIL

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Sarv, that formica top was put in that kitchen in 1958. Pukey Pink. When we bought the house we put money into wood flooring, carpeting and painting. No money left for new countertop.

I put an acrylic primer on the surfaces. Put 2 coats white semi gloss on that. Ragged on 4 different colors, peaches, pinks etc. Put on 3 coats of acrylic clear coat over all that.

This was a temporary fix until we could get new counters. Temporary went into never. I freshened the counters once after 3 years when I went into the kitchen with my glasses on. No chips but a lot of skuff marks. You can see the back splash below the fake window there.

Sheesh, Molly that is 10 coats of stuff!! What a lot of work!!

Had french toast for breakfast, read the newspaper, did the crossword and made myself get off my duff at 10am...now I have to tackle everything I left yesterday when we played. DH is snoring - he made breakfast and now needs a break...LOL

Plants are sunning themselves- need to repot a bunch of seedlings too. Never enough time for everything!

Gotta bamboose for now...

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Hi everyone...new day...not gonna think about the cold!!

Molly~I was an oil painter, portrait and landscape, and then painted scenery for theatre for years. I had more fun with friends painting things to look like other things, concrete floors could be marble, of course woodgraining metal fire doors, etc. Never did a countertop but that would have been right down my alley. DH would get ticked if I did that. I like doing murals-could you guys yell at me to paint again? I need someone to tell me what to do. Seems like I lost my way being home with kids.
Thanks for the TSP info, bookmarked that, I need to do some deck cleaning this spring.
Everything looks so pretty there Molly, I love the color you painted the house, and the blossoms are just exquisite against it.

woodspirit~wow it'll be like having a whole new house! And if you're like me you'll be free for another year! Excellent on DH making such a wonderful meal. I hope you have a great time and celebrate. Sweet about your DFIL...what an wonderful relationship, he must have been great.

McCool~a path for mud season is perfect. I've spent a lot of time filling soft areas with stone. I have a load of old brick for paths too. Those molds look like they would be fun. I guess you could make just a boardwalk for temporary!

sarv~I feel your pain! March is a great Month for being really stiff too! oops, complaining again. Personally I think our reward for surviving Feb should be going straight to at least April. I hope DM is okay....

Hey Lauri~what's up? Are you worrying or just not able to sleep?

m5~Good for you getting your Bosch. Now you won't have to worry about that!!

9kitty~I hope your rain keeps up! Ouch, TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF! Okay, no more yelling either. My kitty loves to eat daylily seedlings. The last batch of wheatgrass I planted for her didn't sprout. I gave up on bringing geraniums in too, although this year I saved one double pink petunia to take cuttings from. It's huge and really pretty. Surprised it didn't get whiteflies and aphids and everything else that shows up indoors just before spring to ruin stuff....(Oh I just can't stop complaining....sorry)

Maria~I thought by today we'd have a picture of Samson doing the happy dance!!Or both of you doing happy dances!!

defoecat~Yesterday DH turned the thermostat up. We keep it cool but at this point I need warm. I wish I had a sunlamp too, maybe next year, although all my lights seem to have plants crowded under ;them..as for sand, well my floors seem pretty well coated with topsoil!! I think if I had even a little sunroom I could make it through the northern winters. I can hold it together until March...so by now I could be puttering with plants in a sunroom and maybe have a little woodstove there. Doing some sort of solar collecting heat would be excellent...maybe next year....or the year after.....

bal~congratulations on winning the battle with the wallpaper! When I've done wallpaper and sized properly I've had no problem taking it off. That said, I've had enough of wallpaper for a couple lifetimes.

Mary~do you have riding weather out there yet? If so, please send us some!!

Hi to the rest of y'all, Elaine should be here soon, too, and everyone I haven't caught up with yet~~~~~~~

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

M5, although I don't have a dishwasher (and have never had one, but that's another story) I have several Bosch tools. My circular saw is a Bosch that has outlived 3 Craftsman (or other) saws. Several other Bosch tools and they are ALWAYS dependable!

Dorothy, GET OUT THE PAINT!

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Darius---- I have had some good and some bad luck with bosch. My bad luck was with a circle saw. I think a lot of it depends on how much you pay for one and how large it is. Has more strength. Besides you said it outlived the craftsman. that means it was made sometime ago. No doubt it was better made. What is the no food today darius???? Aren't you going to make something that will give molly heart blockage today??? Slipping down there.

Sarv---- I do not think 10 coats of paint is a problem at all for Molly. She suffers from the same problem I used to suffer from so badly. She cannot set still. Boredom sets in at about 1 minute in people with that problem. Must be some place down there one can't stop working and the other one has to bake goodies all the time. Two energizer bunnies flying back and forth thru the house.

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Oz, no baking as Molly and her son have gone south for a 3 week painting job. Just cooking for myself, grilled wild alaskan salmon, zucchini marinating in olive oil and garlic that will also go on the grill, and a fresh salad from the garden. Alas, no home grown tomatoes yet so store-bought Santa Sweets in my salad. Oh, and steamed fresh organic broccoli. Might even make some bulgar.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

I see there's been some busy conversation while I was out with DH for breakfast and a Home Depot visit. Got DS a gift card for his 50th birthday, my firstborn is now a half century old. Made him a birthday card with an old photo of him on it...he was about 18 when this was taken. HD had a variety of daylilies available, some of them are sprouting already and I'm wondering if I should put them in pots and set them out later, or leave them be until we get a little warmer outside. Probably should put them in dirt. Got out the door for under $100, which is pretty good considering how much I want to play in the dirt.

Sarv, those "grand openings" are all alike, mobs of people ...I hardly ever see anything unusual or cheaper than it is elsewhere except for the few advertised specials that they run out of in the first hour.

I'm sure I haven't responded to every one but I have a cake ready to come out of the oven, ( and a dinner invitation to DS and DIL tonight, NO dishes!!) so I better get moving. Have a great day everybody!

Sheila

Dmcd, I brought in one geranium which has done well in the dinette, had one or two blooms all winter, and as soon as it's warm enough it's going back outside. I didn't even dig up any of last years, which I regret, as I had some nice salmon colored ones, but I must have run out of ambition while I was burning up the front garden.

Maria, Samson must be delighted with his new freedom...but keep an eye on him for licking, so he doesn't start that. His stitches should be healed well, but you know dogs, they just can't resist a good slurp.

Hi all,
Have read everything here. Boy, you guys sure chat up a storm!
But am back up at my parents.
Dad was giving notice by the doc. last week as of "no cure" for his prostate cancer. Is in the last stage since it has gone to the bones and lymph nodes in the lungs.
So wanted to see him before he starts the so-called gentle chemo. on Wed. They say it will help his "quality of life", whatever that means. So we shall see.
I have been able to get him to eat better plus get him outside down the the beach for some sunshine and fresh air. So that has made me feel much better.
He has good and bad times so..... can't sleep well due to some pain so....
My younger son and I are flying back up here on March 28th so he can see Grandpa.
Plus there is a dahlia tuber sale here on the 1st of April and guess I will be?
There, of course.
Am going to see if Mom will go too with me while my sister stays with Dad.
So I do have that to look forward to.
Robert, what a project you are starting with that wallpaper. I hate wallpaper. Too much hassle. Will take paint any old day.
Maria, now Samson will have a hey day outside going after his ball without that dang collar.
Darius, your healthy meal sounds great and am jealous of fresh salad fixings now. Can't wait for the spring to bring on the greens to eat here in the NW.
Well, need to go but just wanted to check in.
Have a good day all, it is very sunny but cool here but is nice.
Later, Carol

Hi all!

Well, company's gone. Had to leave earlier than expected as they had sick parents to return to and their vacation had to be shortened. It wasn't serious ... just one of those things. We had such a delightful time and the DH will be going out in August for his business trip. If I'm *very good* ... then *maybe* I can go. :) It will depend on the cost of the tickets.

Darius, you were responsible for strawberry trifle with all your talk about strawberry shortcake. :) Went to the local market and got fresh strawberries. That was a *big* hit. Thanks for the great idea.

Sarv, I forgot to answer about the broccoli salad the other day. I'll post the recipe I use on the recipe forum for anyone who wants it. I've played around with several, but this is my favorite.

Maria, I'm so glad to hear Samson is out of jail now. :) Am waving to both of you! ~~~

Defoe and Robert ... sounds like the two of you need to get together. LOL Both of you doing wall paper within a week of each other? Yuck, we've already been through that!

So sorry to hear we have some that aren't sleeping again. You should have been with us yesterday. We walked all day! I think we had everyone tuckered out.

I've got a lot I need to catchh up on, so I'll check in later. Will just wave and say hello to everyone for now. ~~~

Well, it has been a hectic day today, this is the first time I have had to check in. Went to church this morning, had a roast and potatos and carrots cooking in the oven while I was gone. Then had a nephew and BIL stop by shortly after lunch, I had to do a load of laundry so can send DGD home with clean clothes. Have to leave in 1/2 hour to do that. Her mom is going to be upset, as DGD got into some poison ivy, and has it on her face, hands and one thigh. She is so allergic, she doesn't have to really be around it, just in the air.

I will check in after church tonight, and properly comment on everything.

~~ waving to all.

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi everybody,

I'm very sorry to hear the bad news from dr and can reallly empathize with your granddaughter, D'cat, as I used to get poison ivy at the drop of a hat too. However, I'm doing my own little happy dance here today because the bluebirds are back! They're about a month later than last year, but they're here again. I haven't been messing around with those nasty mealworms all year for nothing. The birds were attracted by the peanut butter "suet" I've been making since they were here last, but I just put some of the grubs in the "bluebird diner" and they've found them already. I saw a titmouse giving that feeder the eye while one of the bluebirds was in there, so I'm sure all the small birds will be visiting it in no time. My grub supply won't last long. Oh well. Back to bird-watching----see you later.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

YAY McCool's Bluebirds!!welcome back!!spring can't be too far behind!!

Gravois Mills, MO(Zone 6a)

Well heck Darius. I been fixin for myself today also. Had 3 hard boiled eggs and 1/2 bag of Cheetos. Oh almost forgot the Cherios for lunch.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I think I will join Darius. LOL

dmc, just worrying . It can't get to Monday about 11a.m. soon enough for me. Sons labs are back then and I can call and get the results. I already warned them that they will give me the results. I know with the liver injury that you are tired alot but his was fine they told me. So I may have to start thumping on doors if the tests are good.
McCool, how do you make your peanutbutter suet?? Do your bluebirds eat it too? I have 3 pairs here starting to build their nests, and many more around. I'm going to get them some grubs in the a.m. after the phone call...Nite all have to go and find my farrier as he has been aol for too long and my horse is in desperate need of shoes.....Lauri

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Hello everyone. It's been a busy day and I'm kinda late getting here.

Riding weather? well yes, but I like it warmer and not so windy and it would be great to have somebody to ride with. The trouble is, most people don't want to ride at a trot for a couple of hours. However, it is not as muddy and slick out there in the hills now, so that is a big improvement. I think I saw half the deer in the county today, 20, then about 40 more, and later a couple of hundred in a big bunch, then a doe and yearling fawn who where bedded down in the sagebrush right next to the trail. They ran off and joined another big bunch. On and on, one bunch after the other. The winter was an easy one, not much snow and not real cold, so most of the deer survived the winter. The only flowers blooming out there are a few buttercups, they are always first. The wind blew pretty hard all day but we had a nice ride and that's what counts. My competition season starts next Saturday.

Carol, thanks for checking in from your parents house. I'm sorry the news about your father's cancer is not better. Maybe the treatment they have in mind will slow the progression of it and give him some time when he is fairly comfortable. I'm glad you are spending lots of time with him and your mom and I'm sure he appreciated getting out in the sunshine.

Elaine, I'm glad you had a good time with your company before they had to leave. Life just seems to get in the way sometimes, but hey, we got you back sooner!

Samson has been liberated from the horrible collar and is celebrating with Maria. Wonder if they will dance all night, or if Samson will just collapse into a happy tired heap.

Great sounding lunch Darius. I thought you were heading for your sister's right away, but I guess not for 3 weeks now at least. You definitely have a flexable lifestyle.

Oz, your lunch doesn't sound that great. The eggs are ok, but you need more good stuff to go with it. Why were you doing your own fixing today?

Dcat, I feel so sorry for your granddaughter with that poison ivy. I think I would be one of those people who catch it just out of the air. Insect bites get pretty swollen and itchy for a couple of weeks. Does she take antihistamine for it?

Yesterday I saw one of our tweetybirds carrying dry grass to a nest. I think she is a house finch, not a spectacular variety, but it is a sign of spring and I like that. McCool, you have more interesting birds, and you feed them well too. This winter I hung up a nyger thistle seed feeder and in a couple of weeks the gold finches found it, so I am hoping they will stay around and nest here too. Usually we don't see them until the dandylions go to seed.

I need to get the horses fed and get us some dinner. ~~~ to everyone I missed this time around.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Hi there everyone,

Didn't get lost. Actually checked in a couple times during the day, but no time to write anything.

Church this morning followed by a meeting of the social action committee which made it 12:30 by the time I got home. Had a 2 pm rehearsal of the March orchestra (Sinfonia) which is doing a concert with the Hungarian Embassy. And Hungarian musicians are coming out of the woodwork to participate.

Will take a stab at answering messages from today and then head to the basement. I've got the portable phone from the Food Cupboard home. Have been promising to make a carry sling for it so it doesn't get lost at the FC. Shouldn't take me too long, I hope - a little pocket for the phone and a nice long strap to go across the shoulders should do it.

Sarv - sorry you weren't feeling well this am. Hope it got better as the day went on.
'Tis cob web season. I think I've got one across the whistle of my kettle even though it's been used daily lately. Must get back to it. When I noticed it I didn't dare lest I steam burn myself.

Molly - the counter looks amazingly good. But I'd have to agree - a lot of work.

dmc - with your talents, you could make a bundle doing home decorating - faux this and that.. Actually one of the large catholic churches in Ottawa - Notre Dame Basilica
http://notredame.ottawa.on.ca/english/index.html has pillars all over the insde which are rather plain pillars all painted to look like marble. If you look at the picture gallery, the upper left photo, when enlarged shows a couple of them, but most of the photos don't show them well. They are, quite spectacular though.

Hope you get warm. Have you tried soaking in a hot bath?

Darius - have you never had a dishwasher by choice? My DMIL had no truck with dishwashers at all. (Or modern clothes washers, for that matter. I remember a family crisis when she realized we were all conspiring to get her a newer washer to replace the wringer washer that was electrified when they moved from the farm and which she used until she moved into an apartment in the last year of her life). As far as my dishwasher, she and DFIL once watched our kids for a week while DH and I went to a conference in Denmark and the dirty dishes that were in it when I left were still in if when I returned.

Your grilled Alaskan salmon sounds good. Maybe I should go visit DS who lives in Alaska. DBIL catches salmon in season.

Sheila - happy BD to your DS.

Carol - sorry to hear about your DF. Sure hope it works to give him some quality of life in the time he has left.

Elaine - i'd be interested in your broccoli salad recipe.

defoe - keeping my fingers crossed re DGD and poison ivy.

McCool - nice sign of spring - those bluebirds.

Lauri - let us know about the lab results as soon as you know. For now, I'll just hope the results are OK.

Maria - don't think I said how nice to have Samson's collar off. I'm sure you'll both enjoy it's being gone.

Better get on with the evening. That only took about 45 minutes. ;-)

Ann

.

Hi all

I'm back for a minute. Before I forget ... I posted my salad recipe and am going to try and post the link. If it doesn't work maybe Darius will straighten it out for me. LOL

http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/584480/

Ann~ sounds like you've had another busy day. :)

Defoe~ so sorry to hear about your DGD and that poison ivy. The DH is very sensitive to poison sumack like that. All he has to do is be in the vacinity where someone is burning a field and can get it. He gets very sick from it. Sure feel for her. Oh, couldn't help but chuckle a bit about the lost keys on Saturday. Sorry! It was sort of funny! LOL

Sarv, I do hope you got to feeling better as the day wore on and that you'll have a better night tonight.

Lauriwilson ~ hope you are able to get some sleep tonight also. Am sending prayers your way for your son's test results. :)

Carol, please know that I'm holding you close in my thoughts and prayers as you go through this difficult time with your Dad. Please check in when you can and keep us up to date. Even when you don't feel up to chatting ... do let us hear from you so we don't worry, okay?

Well, it's been a long week-end and I think I'll go get comfy. Will check back later.
... Elaine

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi again,

Lauri, I'm keeping my fingers crossed too for you and your son. Hope the tests reveal an easily treatable reason for his discomfort.

To answer your question about the peanut butter "suet" --- I found several variations on a bluebird website last year when these critters first appeared (I'd never seen one "in the flesh" before). I no longer actually measure anything out, but my version starts with approximately 2 cups of chunky peanut butter and 1 pound of lard melted together in a large lasagne pan. To that, add about a cup or so of chopped raisins, 1 to 2 cups each of corn meal and flour, and about 4 cups of quick cooking oatmeal. The mixture should be pretty stiff. Refrigerate, then cut into squares for suet baskets or crumble some in a dish, whichever you prefer. The woodpeckers love it too. We once had three red-bellied woodpeckers in the lilac bush at one time and I'd never seen more than one occasional visitor before. Titmice, nuthatches, chickadees, sparrows, and wrens also like it. Unfortunately, so do the Starling Sisters (the whole tribe of them) and those grey furry "birds". Sometimes you have to convince the bluebirds first that it's really food, but once they taste it they'll come back for more.

Sarv, hope your mother is okay now. It might not be a bad idea for her to start drinking cranberry juice on a regular basis, or at least having some on hand. For a while I seemed to be prone to bladder infections and found that the cranberry juice could prevent them developing if I started drinking it immediately if I thought one was coming on. Just a thought anyway, as I don't think it could hurt her even if it isn't a "miracle cure". Ummm, just had an afterthought --- as long as she's not allergic to it, of course!

101, glad you enjoyed your company, but sorry that they had to cut their visit short.

Darius, I too liked your menu better (though I must admit to giving in occasionally to a Cheetos craving).

Hi to Maria and Samson. I'm sure you're both very much happier now.

Dmcd, how about getting out your paints and painting yourself a perfect Spring day complete with tulips, daffs, hyacinths, blossoming fruit trees, and, of course, bluebirds.

Mary, we never used to get that many finches either until we put up the thistle seed feeder. Wham, instant finch magnet! The downy and hairy woodpeckers visit it too when the peanut butter runs out.

V-ann, are you sure you've retired? You're still working so hard and so long that you're making me tired.

Nice job, Molly! I never would have thought that paint would adhere so well or last so long on top of Formica.

Well, I'd best go and start putting some soup together. We have a lot of stock and some veggies left over from a boiled dinner and I want to turn it into lentil soup before it goes off. In case I don't get back here tonight, I'm wishing you all a warm and restful night.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, finally settled down after a busy hectic day. I feel like I travel at about 60mph all the time. I always picture myself sliding in the door of whatever meeting, church, etc. Always the last minute! Whew, gotta find that lower gear. I think it bothers me because I am a very punctual person, and don't like to be rushed, but rushed I have been all weekend.

Let's start on food. 101 gonna check out that broccoli salad recipe, Oz, if given the choice of meals, sorry, I think I will eat with Darius. The eggs sounded good, but Cheerios for lunch, now you can do better than that. Bet you ticked the "love of your life" off, and she left!! Come on, confess.

Kittymom, hope that you have been behaving, and not overdoing this weekend. Laurie, sure hope that you get good results from the labs for your DS. Will be thinking about you. DR, I am so glad that you are visiting your DF and DM. I hope that the treatments they have in mind for your DF will be something that will help keep the pain at bay. I do wish that you get to enjoy quite a few months of quality time with him. Please take some time to think about all the things you wished you had said/done in your lifetime, and do so now. This is a great opportunity for you to begin the healing process of losing a loved one. Some of us are not so lucky that we know in advance when death will take someone we love. I have had so many regrets that I didn't have time to tell my DF how much he really meant to me. I know that he knew, but saying it would have been so much better. He went to bed one night, had a massive heart attack and was gone in minutes. I hope we all can learn that life is precious, and so short, let's say and do the things that are on our hearts before it's too late.

Sarv, sounds like yesterday was a good day, with the exception of "being scared" they whole way there. I hate it when I have to be a back seat passenger, I am a small person, but I like lots of space, and back seats always seemed cramped to me. I have bursitis in my hips, and sometimes, riding in a car is painful and can bring on painful attacks.

dmc, glad the weather thing was just a temporary thing. You sound so much better today. Hey, maybe you and lauriewilson and Mary E can hire my DH as your farrier, that way, I could travel with him and we could visit. He would probably think working with your horses was child's play as he mainly did large horses, Belgians, Percheons, Clydesdales, etc.

McCool, so good that your works with the worms has paid off. So good to see the first birds of spring. I saw the prettiest cardinal the other day. It was the brightest red, and sat and watched me as I worked in the yard. This time of year we always have eastern bluejays, and the wirld canaries. They come and stay about 2 weeks, then they are off to parts unknown.

On the poison ivy, DGD is really allergic to it. She doesn't have to be close to it, or touch it, I guess it is just in the air. Her mother was astonished that she already had her first case of the season. Just couldn't believe that it is already out. She takes antihistimins, and has special lotion that helps it to heal, but still is miserable with an attack. Several years ago there was a shot or a series of shots that could be given to build up immunity to it. My nephew had to take them when he was little, but DGD's Dr doesn't seem to want to do that. I understand that they are really painful, and the effects are not 100%. I dare not say this too loud, but I seem to be one who very seldom has a problem with it, even in direct contact with it.

To all of you who have been to garden shows or are planning at trip to one, I envy you. DR, you behave at the dahlia show, and don't carry too many home with you.

101, glad that you had a good visit with friends, but also glad to have you back at coffee. And the lost keys was not a funny subject at the time. Would you believe we have a peg board in the kitchen where all keys are to be left. It is entirely empty, as DH always leaves the keys "hidden" in the vehicles. So if you are ever in my neighborhood and need additional transportation, please just look under the seat, in the ash tray, over the visor, and he has even put them in the cavity where the gas cap is. So just take a few minutes, and you can have whatever is parked in the driveway.

Well, gonna go check some other forums before bedtime. Will check later,.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

checked back in, I'm laughing at the idea of painting myself a perfect spring day - maybe that's the trick!!
I have to get to bed, but wanted to say I'll be praying for a good answer for your son lauri, and for Carol and her dad and family.

Laurie I hope you get some sleep tonight.

I'm a terrible worrier. I'm still up because DD went back to Rochester today on the train and was supposed to call when she got into her dorm just to check in. finally at 11 pm we got hold of campus security because there has been no answer at her dorm nor can we get her on her cell phone. She was supposed to arrive at 3pm.

Long story short security located her, she was annoyed at us, she had been locked out of her room and had been all flustered trying to get someone with a key to let her in, and she had gone to the library all day waiting.and frustrated and upset.....so, she couldn't turn her cell phone on and let us know she was okay?

too many college age girls disappear. It doesn't seem too much to ask to always check in with someone.I tell her to do that at school too, make sure a friend or roommate knows where she is...

Hopefully she was embarrassed enough by being tracked down that next time she'll remember. I wouldn't have slept tonight if we hadn't tracked her down.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well have browsed all the forums I keep up with, and having satisfied my "need to know" I am off to bed.

Good night John Boy!!

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Me again, briefly because my eyes are wanting to close. And I have some muscles that are complaining about the ride I took today, not good since I plan to ride the 75 mile ride this weekend. Pills, pills and more pills. I'll get through it. Endurance was never meant to be easy.

Defoe, if anybody wanted a vehicle around this part of the country, all the keys are in the ignition. Except when I go to town, then they go in my pocket. A few years ago there were a couple of young guys that had murdered a guy in a bad drug deal, and they were traveling through the area with some young lady who was dumb enough to give them a ride. About 30 miles from here they got into an arguement with her and she kicked them out of her car (this lady had some guts I think) and they found themselves on the outskirts of a small town. They walked back into town and looked around for a car to steal, but got caught before they found one. If they had known about all the pickup trucks with keys in the ignitions they would have gone out into the country to the first farm. But of course every farm has a few dogs so that wouldn't have worked either, and they might have found themselves looking down the barrel of a gun. We think we would rather loose a vehicle than have some guy coming into the house.

That bird food recipe sounds gourmet! No wonder the birds love you.

Well folks, I'm loosing it, time to go lay me down to sleep..........zzzzzzzzz

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

Oh, that is scary. I would hope it would embarrass her enough she wouldn't let it happen again. Go outside and use that cell phone!!! I would have been so upset. This day and age things happen. Oh, to be young and not worried again.

I am so glad she is OK.

Well, my post will be short and sweet. I didn't injure myself anymore today, cause I didn't do a darn thing. I got out of bed an hour early because I was hurting so much just had to get out of there. Then had my breakfast and sat down just for a minute, and an hour and a half later I woke up with the morning gone. Actually, Jennifer called me. LOL

She is doing fantastic and has a doctor visit with the primary doctor tomorrow and the surgeon on Tuesday. She sent me a picture of her neck today. I would share it, but I'm sure she wouldn't be happy with me if I did that. I thought it looked great considering her description of it. Remember, I shared the picture of my shoulder with the staples. LOL THAT was gross.

Then I messed around a little bit trying to get some accounting done for the spca and then some things set up to list on ebay. but didn't really accomplish anything.

So here is the coffee thread for THE FIRST DAY OF SPRING.

Didn't think we would make it, did you???
