Up early on a Sat even!! Had to get the dishes done and hit the shower before we take off for Cabellas. DH spends an hour primping and I needed to get in there before him. He has his own bathroom, but we decided not to heat the upstairs where it is, so he takes over mine in the cold months.

M5- meant to tell you how beautiful the pic were. I've always wanted to do (can't remember what it is called), but you use torn material and a hook thing - it makes rugs or pillows etc. When I looked into it, you needed a machine to do the ripping (why?) and a bunch of other equipment and I didn't feel ready to jump in. Maybe some time later...

Defoe - several years ago my sis and I took a trip down to Kentucky and visited a college where they make all kinds of things (rugs, weaving, knitting etc) Took a very nice tour there - kids were from poorer families as I recall and had to work on campus -do you know what the name is? One of my favorite trips....

9kit - take it easy - you don't want to reinjure that arm!! Giving kitties pills is the pits. I had to put ointment in our cat's eyes for ten days. Most of it is/was on the wall - I'd put it in,she'd shake her head and out it would fly - what a waste! And what a mess...

oz, sorry to hear about your neighbor - at least he is alive... I just can't imagine starting over again with nothing...really would put me in a funk!!

New neighbors two little snippy dogs keep chasing me when I get the mail - scares the pants off me...I took a stick with me last time. Teenager came out of the house when he heard me yelling and apologized....guess I should go make friends with the dogs, but I am ticked at the whole situation. The home where they live is a rental and every two years they oust whoever is in there for newbies. I quit being neighborly years ago - used to take some homemade goodies over to the move ins, but they are now in and out before you even know their name.

Last family had 6 kids and they were always over here bugging everyone....homeschoolers, so there was never any peace. Only met the mother twice - she never came outside. The eight yr old boy was over here when the sun came up and didn't go home until it went down - always asking what we were having for lunch etc. He always seemed hungry so I invited him to eat with us several times- what a mistake!! He wanted every meal then They moved - back to Canada (are they by you Vi? LOL)

Time to hop on the scale - forgot yesterday. Have a great one everyone!!

Hi everyone
Have tried to go back and catch up, but I sort of skimmed over everything as company is still sleeping, so please excuse me if I don't try to reply to all I've read. I've been having withdrawls and have missed all your chattings and posts! LOL

DH had a great birthday. Went to OutBack, and of course he had his usual salmon but we all shared the bloomin onion which was good. They gave him green beeds as our friend spilled the beans about it being his birthday and service was very good. They did have green beer and voted me to be the designated driver but decided they hadn't had enough to drink when we left to carry that one out. LOL LOL He got a dessert which us girls promptly demolished for him as chocolate and beer don't go together, right?

Anyway, Wood, so so glad to hear you got the job! That's's just great!

Ann, wonderful about your high speed. Hope you get the bugs worked out.

Kelly, I too am another who feels that God never closes a door without opening another. So glad your Bill's was opened so soon. :)

Defoe, yeah, some people have us confused with Jeff Foxworthy and his "redneck" jokes! :)

Susan, please please do be careful. I'm *really* afraid you're getting impatient and will reinjur that shoulder. You've come too far to do that now! Was especially glad to hear the good news about your DD, though.

Defoe, forgot to ask about your DMIL. Haven't been keeping up with her as I should. Sorry!

Well, I might be hearing movement from the back of the house, so to the rest of you I've not mentioned please know I'm waving and love reading your posts. We're driving over to the coast today for some fresh sea food and sun and to show off a bit of coastal GA. Y'all have a wonderful day. ~~~~
Hugs all way round ...
Elaine

Gadzooks!! It's 5:15 ands I've been up for over half an hour. My sweethearts nursie friends came by to take her away to Wa. DC for a meeting. It's lonely here already. But she'll be back in a week or so, and in the meantime I can probably find some mischief to get into. Yardwork is progressing as much as the old bones will allow. Need another couple dozen of the cement retaining wall blocks, another two gates and 50 or so feet of fencing to keep the dogs out of most of the planted areas. Then it's time to plant !
Ozz's tale of tornados is awesome. What a terrible thing to endure. Guess we are very fortunate here in the 'Pungent Sound' since the most we get is a little freezing, lots of rain, infrequent earthquakes and an occasional volcanic eruption.
One out of five Lotus seeds has germinated, one rotted, one was empty and the other two haven't decided what they want to do. Sure hope I can get at least one of them to survive. Never had a lotus before.
Time for coffee, food, morning crossword and pondering the options for todays activities. Best wishes and good thoughts for all. Hope your day is productive and happy and the laundry monster gives you a rest.

Fort Pierce, FL(Zone 10a)

Oz, there are a number of "weather geeks" that kinda' watch out for DG'ers during times of bad weather (read two years of hurricanes!). I took the liberty of posting a link to the story of your friend on a thread started when news of the tornado outbreak started. I hope you don't mind.
http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/582876/

One of my most precious possessions cost $49.00 at Radio Shack. It is a small NOAA weather alert radio. Electric, but with battery backup. Most of the time it just sits silently on top of my computer desk, but for any weather warning in a 50 mile radius it sounds a beep and a voice from NOAA tells you what is happening. It isn't only for weather, we live close to a nuclear plant and a river. It works for any disaster. For tornados that come in the night when you are asleep and no TV or radio on, it at least gives you a chance to hunker down.

Good morning to you all ~~~ I hope your day is as beautiful as mine is here, and all your plants are peeping up to see what's going on in the world!

Darius--- Go ahead. Just keep it up. Molly is going to get so much of that stuff she is going to have to start a new larger pump house with a garage door on it to get in.

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Good Morning All,

We are making a trip out to a daylily farm this morning, but first I wanted to show yall what I put on the table. Scallions!!!!!! They are getting nice and fat and ready to eat now.

We have some buttercrunch and romaine lettuce out in the garden. I have harvested once, but some garden critter has been doing the rest of the harvesting.

Well, we are off for now!

Well, I am up and ready to head out to do some errands. DH parked the extra car in front of the garage, and lost the keys. So until that situation is resolved, I can't go any where.

Sarv, the name of the town you are talking about is Berea. The college by the same name. They serve the eastern ky appalachia mountain area, and most students are financially challenged. They offer jobs in return for college costs. Many have gotten good education plus work experience by going there. Yes it is a lovely campus.

To everybody else, ~~ waving to ya'all.

Need to go help with the hunt for the keys so I can get on the road.

BBL

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Good morning.

OOO Darius, that picture of the strawberry shortcake about did me in!

Molly, nice scallions! Do you have Peter Rabbit living near by? He might have the wrong address, Mc? for McGreggor. I hope he will leave enough for you to have salads. You might have to make a chicken wire cage to grow lettuce that you don't have to share.

Elaine, have fun on your trip today.

Robert, it's nice to see you again. Are you taking pictures of your projects?

Oz, I have been watching Storm Stories on the weather channel, this was Tornado Week. Awesome to look at and so dangerous. I'm glad your friend survived.

I know there are some really backwoodsy people everywhere, so I sure wasn't implying that all the folks in any given location were that way. I hope nobody took offence.

Does anybody remember the Foxfire books? We have 2 or 3 of them, there were a lot more printed and we never got them. In the first one there was the story of an old lady who lived alone without electricity, plumbing, etc, just like she had lived for all of her 80+ years. One of the students (Foxfire was a school project designed to educate the kids but also to preserve the history of the region) interviewed her and another took pictures. They also did chapters on soap making, hog butchering, log cabin building, planting by the signs, and other everyday occurances in the Appalachian Mountains.

Kelly, it seems to me that if the office girl has also "had it" with that company, that they need to get a different manager before they loose all the good employees they have. Maybe after she made that phone call, somebody is getting the picture.

Time for me to get moving here. Oh, and speaking of moving, here is a picture of AmandaPanda in fast forward. Just an instant later she attacked and killed the wad of paper on the floor.

Good morning everyone,

I've been up for awhile, but had leisurely breakfast and read newspaper. Sat. newspaper in Canada is big - more like the Sunday one in the US.

Tried one fix for the computer with no luck. It suggests also that I might need to reset the Winsock stack which I've not yet done. Meanwhile, I just snooze the antivirus to get mail. Not worried because I pay for additional antivirus from my ISP; so my antivirus is used more for Internet. Have also been downloading new FTP programs so that I can upload web pages. And, of course, one downloaded, it will have to be set up for the three regular web sites that I access. New computers can sure eat a lot of time.

Sarv - you were up early.

Susan - I'm with Sarv on the cautions about that arm. Giving cats pills - good luck. We had to give my favourite cat pills awhile back (a long while back - we eventually had to put her down in 2001) and she got so stressed by the whole procedure that she started peeing all over the place. She was an absolute master at concealing the pill until we thought it was down and then spitting it out when we weren't looking.

Hi Elaine - glad DH had a great birthday. (It was also BD of my successor at the FC and my back fence neighbour). Enjoy your drive to the coast. Fresh seafood - have some for me.

Hi Robert - hope the cross word doesn't make you cross.

Pati - that weather alert radio sounds like a must in certain cllimates. Even here in Ontario we've been known to get the odd tornado.

speaking weather - Ox, that is some thread about the tornados. Sure glad you are OK and what a miricle that your friends weren't blown away.

Darius - what scrumptious looking shortcake. Tastes great.

Re addressing individuals - the only way I can do it is to open two windows of the thread and go back and forth. Don't usually take enough time to do it thoroughly though.

Molly - inducing zone envy here. It will be a good month before we can even think about the real early things you've mentioned. Hope that garden critter doesn't get more than it's share.

defoe - hope you resolve the lost keys issue soon.

Mary - loved the pic of Amanda Panda. I remember the Foxfire books but don't think I ever actually owned any of them. We did have something that was similar but I can't for the life of me remember the name. I think that I disposed of it some years back, but I'll take a look.

Need to get on with the day. TTYL

Ann

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Good morning early birds. I was up but didn't get a long sleep, went to bed late and got up early, so I snuck back in for a nap! Phone woke me up. Dcat, someone from DG and I can't recall who, went to the Paducah quilt show my first year here and posted the most beautiful photos of the quilts.

Elaine, I love those blooming onions at Outback. I can pretty well demolish one all by myself. Of course, then I have no room for steak, or anything else. Sounds like you are enjoying your guests, except for not being able to get into Coffee as often as you would like.

Oz, the tornado pictures you took were excellent, what a lot of damage! You were fortunate to only have it come near you. I am awed that the family survived it under a kitchen table, that also went missing. We get them here but Lake Michigan keeps them away from the shoreline, for some meteorlogical reason.

Sarv, take a spritzer bottle with you when you go for the mail, fill it with water and a little vinegar, and give those sassy pups a shot or two. I guarantee it won't hurt them but they won't like it and will stay away. I detest those little snappy (read untrained) dogs. Or maybe I should say, their owners who are too lazy to train them properly.

Sarv, I know what you mean by the rugs and wall hangings, using strips of cloth, hooked onto burlap or some kind of backing. My great aunt Celia used to do that, and there was always a half done project on a quilt frame in her living room. I guess they think today's crafter couldn't cut the strips uniformly which is the only reason you'd need a machine to cut them. Her rugs were beautiful, she used the different colorfabric to make a picture, rather than just varigated patterns. Now if only someone would tell us what they were called!!!

Sarv and Dcat. happy shopping. I'm going to drag DH over to the appliance joint and order the new dishwasher. One more part came yesterday.

Did you find the car keys, Dcat? When the workers were doing the siding on the new garage, DH had left one of his collector cars in front of the door opening, and they were going to saw the cementboard and asked me if I could move it! This is what I had to choose from....
Do I need to tell you I never found the right ones? I keep my keys in my purse, and DH keeps his daily driver keys on the coat rack. The garage door opener is for the car he stores at an apartment underground space he rents.

Yay, Woodspirit got her wish! As she should have! Who better to do that job?

Off to the shower...check in later to see what's up.

OOPS! 'Dear Her' has been gone 4 hours and I've started the first mischief. The room is filled with books, computer stuff, tables, piles of boxes, a file cabinet and 'stuff'. The wallpaper is on the way out, I hope. But that's allright 'cuz the Lotus seed has a front row seat in the sunny south window.

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Boyoboy, it sure doesn't take you long to get into mischief, does it? I wonder that she ever leaves home at all. Do you ever give her a clue as to what you plan to do while she is away, or is it just a big surprise when she comes in the door? We've seen some pretty ambitious projects, and your end result is always excellent, so I think she can rest easy and leave you to your handywork. Did you finish the door carvings? I don't recall seeing the finished project.

Mary, that AP is just a little doll. She must operate like the Samster, he's either dead asleep, or tearing around like a rocket. He has a few moments every day when he wants to be picked up and cuddled. And sometimes he walks around making little eeep and errrr and myat noises, which I've interpreted to mean, "What can I get into now".

Ann, even without trying to set up new filters and files, computers eat up a lot of time. Sometimes I get on just to read my mail in the morning, and lose an hour or two, catching up on threads, answering mail, googling interesting bits, and the time just flies away. Was it Sarv who sets the timer? LOL I'd just ignore it. Good for you sticking to your guns about your Wednesday volunteering. If he can't accomodate to your schedule, he should fly on his own wings.

I hope I left enough of the gorgeous strawberry shortcake for the rest of you as I took one whole plate for myself! Whipped cream just the way I like it, thanks Darius. Love these no-cal cyber treats! DD brought fresh shrimp from the fishmonger's yesterday so we had a spaghetti and oil and garlicky shrimp lunch. Mmmmm.

Not much else, except hello to everyone. I'll share my sunshine with you all and send rain to those who need it.

Okay for the question about those rugs. Here they are called hooked rag rugs. One of DH's aunt's used to make them, and I have one that she made. Just a thow rug size, but it is so pretty, and unique. She just took old clothes, cut the fabric into strips, and pulled it through a burlap type backing, leaving tufts on top. She did all kinds of designs, without a pattern. A pretty talented lady.

Yes, we found the car keys. This is the second time this week that the garage door has been blocked. I need the 2x4, to use on DH. The first of the week, DH pulled his mother's car in front of the garage to change her oil. Well the next morning he was going to drive her car to go pick her up to bring her home. Well the darn thing wouldn't start, so he took the extra car to go get her, as he didn't have time to do anything with her car. This leaves my car in the garage, and I need to go to the grocery. So I took DH's pick up truck. That was an adventure, as it is a long step up. And cramming all of my packages into it. Well that took 2 days to solve. Then last night DGD was going to her friend's house, and I went out and got in the extra car, as it was parked in front of the garage, to take DGD to her friend's. No keys. So ended up with the truck again. This morning since I had errands to do, the hunt for the keys started. The extra car is an older Cadillac, and it has a console in the front, with a place for a cup, or it flips over for a coin holder. DH had laid the keys on the console and me or DGD last night "flipped" that thing, and the keys disappeared into a black hole, which had no access. DH had a long magnet rod in the garage, and used that to retrieve them. I suggested to prevent that happening again, that he tape or glue that piece so it wouldn't move. We now have a car with 2 strips of duct tape holding the piece firmly in place.
Our garage is 2 1/2 car size, and is so full that only 1 car can fit in it. DH is a pack rat. The other day I was looking for something in the garage, and counted 8 weed eaters hanging on the walls, plus leaf blowers, and 6 chain saws.

Loved the pics of the scallions and strawberry shortcake. Bal, I think you have plenty of time to get everything back in place before the DW comes back.

To everybody else, Viann, Mary, patti, bal, darius, molly, m5 ,sarv, 101, and kittymom ~~ at ya.

DMIL is doing great. Stopped in awhile ago, and she was in the kitchen peeling some potatos. She said they let her do that in occupational therapy!! She went to the Dr on Thursday, and he said the x-rays showed just a little fluid on her left lung, but is getting along fine.

Well, I am off to do some cooking, but will be back later.

Hi All,

Whew, did I wake up in la la land this morning. I thought it was Sunday. In fact, I thought it was Sunday until about 9:00 when I turned to a channel that I like to watch on Sunday Mornings while I get ready for Sunday School and the show was not on,,,it was cartoon's,,,,couldn't figure it out. Then it clicked,,,it's Saturday. Then it Really clicked when I realized that I would have 2 customers here waiting for me. Oy Vey. I didn't even go out last night. Pretty sad.

Well, was going to comment more, then the phone rang,,,that was about 45 min. ago. I took my meds just before that so, the comments are going to turn into a nap. BBL to check in.

Help Molly! The wallpaper comes of easily, sort of, but that residual glue sticks to the wall like glue!! Bright statement don'cha think? Well scrub after scrub with hot water and TSP and the stuff is still horrible to get off. Don't want to paint or even put the Kilz on till things are cleaner.I should've went out an dug a hole instead. Oh well, I needed an indoor job for awhile anyway. Some strawberry shortcake would salve my pruny wrinkled hands. Wonder how long it would take to drive to Florida from here ? Hope I could make it back by dinnertime.

Defoe, glad DMIL is on the mend. Ain't duct tape wonderful ?

Meezer, the carving is almost finished, but then the fountain came up, and the fencing, and now stripping wallpaper and painting. I seem to have a penchant for taking on vast projects with half vast ideas.

Kelly, until I've seen the morning paper over a cup of coffee and determined what day it is, nothing much matters.

Time and wallpaper paste waits for no man, better get back to it.

Hi every one, been busy with my accountant, pretty soon I will findout how much I owe Uncle Sam, never get any thing back !

Samson is finally free of his imprisonment, he is happy, I am happy!

M5, loved seeing your Mother's handy work, just beautyful, any more? Wish I had some pictures of things My MIL made, she was a terrific knitter and hooked rugs and small pictures. I made a braided rug a hit and miss, was still is very nice, one of my children have it now.

I think like dmc about KT. blue, grass and horses. My DH's great grandfather owned an anti bellum house down there, I had photos of it, but cannot find them. They were Brady type photos.

amc, some of my friend cannot log into my Blog, how did you do it? Glad you enjoyed reading it. Will add more in the near future

Kelly, I missed something, where were you?

Started to use my food processor, and it decided to go poof, guess it died of old age, I use it almost daily. There are always some nuts to grind or chop, or bread crumbs to be pulverised from old bread, and many more things needed for cooking or baking. Had to go out today to buy a new one

Aproppo Baking, Darius, that strawberry shortcake lookes yummy, my favorite dessert

Ann, I wish I knew half as much about computers what you know

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

defoe, I have a friend working at Berea College. Her name is Deborah Thompson. I think she teaches Appalachia Studies.
darius, the strawberry shortcake looks fabulous! Did you pick the strawberries somewhere nearby?
balvenie, who is dear her?
Thanks to those of you who seem as pleased about my new job as I am. I hope my health holds together to work several years more.
My B-I-L and his wife are down here visiting relatives from the VA coast. We like them a lot, and they work on projects even when visiting. He visited a sister and everyone pitched in together to paint all the kitchen cabinets and do some other jobs in there. It looks great. When they visited us the last time, they changed out the deck railing. Since then we have expanded the deck and built new stairs down to ground level. (well, level is a stretch, the land is very steep).
I am an awful housekeeper, so I have been cleaning all day and so has my spousal unit. Everytime we expect company, that's when we get serious about cleaning. You won't believe how gross my wall sconces were. They have spring-fed candles in them, and glass chimneys. They get so sticky because they are attached onto the wall just above an unvented propane heater. Then they got spider webs on them. I had to soak them and wash them twice. Also vacuumed twice, washed windows and mirrors, dusted, eeeeeeeek!
I'm beat and laying down for a few minutes.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

I wish you guys would quit this terrible cleaning. I am too exhausted already.

Yippee! The adhesive behind the wainscot was immune to mineral spirits and acetone, but several doses of hot TSP solution and a scraper got it off. 20 sq. ft. more and it will all be gone. Working around all this mess is a paine in den arse, but I can't move all the big stuff by myself.
Spirit, Dear her is my beloved, most wonderful 'spousal unit'. She is a marvelous home-maker, but when we are expecting company she turns into a maniac house cleaner too. Sounds like you got a super BIL.
Gotta let the wall dry out then give it a coat of kilz. A sit down, cold Corona and a romp with the kids is in line. Cheers.

Hi all, it's Satuday evening again....I'm in a funk, i feel likeI just can't get warm any more. I am so tired of feeling cold. Kids had computers all day. I'm disappointed DD goes back to college tomorrow and we didn't really do any thing while she was around. With the howling wind it's topping out in the teens here, wind chill, and no end to cold in sight. I guess March does this to me every year, so I'll just stop whining now.....

Maria, I just followed your link to the blog, and I bookmarked it. Worked just fine. I went back to the thread to see the pictures of the farmhouse and your family when you were little since they didn't show up on the blog. I enjoyed it greatly!

darius. the strawberry shortcake really hit the spot...oh for real strawberries again!

woodspirit~hooray for you on the new job!!

Samson~Hooray for you getting your satellite dish off!!

m5~ the needle work is lovely. DH walked in while I was gazing at Sammi and he chuckled at that look of innocence...he sure has mastered that look!

Kelly I thought it was Sunday too, and I fell asleep again on the couch wrapped up in blankets. I think my whole being has just surrendered to cold and dark.

dfoecat~glad to hear DMIL is doing well...lol at peeling potatoes! Surely there was something she missed in the hospital more than that chore! I've always been intrigued by rug hooking too. If I weren't lying around sleeping and just waiting for this %&@(# cold weather to leave, I could probably be doing something creative. I'm just too crabby to care!

Bal~I've used that blue stuff to take off wallpaper paste DIF I think it's called? Last bathroom we did here we just tore the walls down! Most of this house was wallpaperd, in expensive hand printed papers, but none of it was sized, it all came down in dime-sized chunks, and several rooms needed skim coating for all the nicks.

Mary~Glad to see AmandaPanda again! Good things she's defending you against vicious paper wads. I remember the Foxfire books, they are still available. My friend got the whole set for Christmas. I have Foxfire 4 which tells you how to make a sledge type horse sleigh. I'd like to get the whole set. I always wanted to try living with as little as possible. I do like plumbing, but I'm intrigued by the skills people had, and a lot of the ways they lived.

Ann~DH does a lot of computing so I learn as little of that as I can...and as soon as I figure anything out he's upgraded or changed it, so it's not worth it. Besides, I can always ask a kid...they're handy for that!!
Hi to all else, I don't get much computer time today.....~~~~~~~~~

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Dorothy, pooh on the bad weather. It will e gone soon (we ALL hope!).

Archer/Bronson, FL(Zone 8b)

Robert, Thank you for asking about the wallpaper removal. In the end, it sounds like you have it handled.

I know how that is, sometimes you have to wait until your dw/dh/so is out of range to get a project up and going.

A few years back I waited for my s/o to go to Key West so I could paint our formica kitchen counters. He would have said "You can't do that". The next time, I had to wait for him to take a boat to the Bahamas so I could paint our bedroom lavender. He was impressed with the kitchen counters, his comments on the bedroom was "honey, you have too much time on your hands". Strange way to say "yeck"

Darius and I made a trip to Trenton to a nursery we had been to before. I wasn't planning on buying anymore plants, but we found a couple I couldn't live without and a few others I couldn't resist the price. Could you resist a perennial in a gal pot for 50 cents?

But ya gotta see this abelia. We also got a fringe tree and a japanese magnolia with some very unusual leaves. The nursery has citrus trees that are in bloom right now. The fragrance is just lovely and makes it hard not to buy some new plants, even if they are not grapefruit trees.

Interesting how regional descriptions vary...I haven't seen the type of rug dcat described, here a rag rug is usually long strips of fabric crocheted into an oval or a round, a braided rug is long strips braided into another long strip, and then sewn together, and the type of rug my Aunt Celia made was long strips pulled through a backing but not cut, and the surface looked like a berber carpet! Others can be done on a loom, with rag strips as the warp or the woof, I don't know which is which, and woven with cording.

There used to be a place off the highway near Crystal Falls where a blind man used to make the latter kind, and they were wonderful. Lasted for years. Then his wife took over the job and started using inferior materials, and those just fell apart in a short time.

Sounds like MIL is doing fine at home! I'll bet she is really happy to be back with her own things and real food.

GG, good thing you turned on the tv or you might have been sitting all alone at church, wondering where everyone was! It's an odd feeling, isn't it?

Went and bought a Bosch this afternoon, miracle of all miracles they had the one I wanted in the warehouse! So, as soon as the Kenmore is repaired, DH will take it out and put in the new one. What a pita.

Off to read the early editions of the Sunday papers.

Say good night Gracie....

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Ha! Hit skip to new, and missed a bunch of posts! Good job Bal, I would have used TSP right off the bat, that stuff will clean anything! Worked better before they took out the phosphate, though.

I'm right there with you on weather dmcd, I hate March even more than I hate February. Seems like it ought to warm us up a little by March .

Molly, I couldn't pass up hardly anything for fifty cents! I think you made a good choice, those blossoms are beautiful. I can't wait for spring. We'll have to enjoy your vicariously!

Sheila

Millbury, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi all,

Robert, good to see you again. How are the furkids doing these days?

101, glad your DH's birthday was enjoyed by all of you. Did the whole staff of the Outback serenade him? They tend to do that here if advised that it's somebody's birthday.

Mary, AmandaP is looking good. Thanks for the update.

Sarv, I can empathize about the neighbors' dogs. One of ours has a Dobie that seems to think it owns the entire street and since I'm generally afraid of dogs anyway, a trip to the mailbox can be downright exciting.

Darius, the shortcakes looked wonderful. I think I gained 10 pounds just looking at them. (Thank heavens they were cyberpounds --- I already have too many of the real ones!)

M5, so glad you found the right dishwasher. Now I just wish you luck in getting rid of the lemon.

D'cat, I'm glad to hear that your MIL is doing well. It's about time, poor thing!

Dmcd, hang in there. In no time at all we'll be sweating buckets and looking back with longing to these frosty mornings. I must say that I'm not really looking forward to "mud season" though. I keep thinking that I should get some molds and make a stepping stone path out back. Now that we have three seed feeders, a suet basket, and a bluebird diner back there, the path has become treacherous anytime that it's not frozen solid.

Susan, I have to put my two cents worth in with everyone else's. Please don't hurt yourself by trying to do too much too soon. Also, best of luck with the kitty meds. It's no fun at all --- been there, done that.

Molly, nice plant! Enjoy whatever you can wrest from the critters. It will still be quite a while before we get to harvest anything here.

Hi to pati, GG, Maria, V-ann, and all our absent coffee klatchers. It's been a long day and I'm off to try to relax a bit before hitting the sack. Goodnight Gracie.

M5, did you read what my daughter said to you about a Bosch last Wednesday? Just curious

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, I am back again.

Bal, I was going to recommend the DIFF, it sure does the job. One time I was taking down a border, and used everything I could think of to take it off. Called the wallpaper store and they recommended fabric softner in warm water, by gosh it worked. Vinegar is also good, as is TSP.

Molly, I don't know what that plant/tree is but it is sure beautiful. I couldn't resist a 50 cent plant either. I have resisted going to the garden centers yet, as it is too early to put much out, and I don't have enough room to have them indoors.

McCool, I often think about doing some stepping stones, but just haven't got around to it. Tonight DGD and I made a bird bath. It turned out real good. It is drying and curing, so maybe tomorrow I can get a picture and post it here. I made it for my D(twin)sister's birthday. Before anyone asks, yes we have the same birthdate!! You would be surprised how many people ask that.

M5, so glad you got the dishwasher, now to get the lemon repaired, so it can be sold, and the new one installed. I just love your Sammi pictures. He looks so innocent, but I am sure he is not!!

Maria, so glad to hear that Samson is out of his collar. I am sure that he could tell us how glad he is if he could talk. Is he returning to his normal self yet? Any day now, I expect some small appliance to die. It usually happens when you most need that item to. Usually when company in on the way.

GG, you remind me of my DM, a couple of weeks ago, I stopped by to take her to church with me, and she thought it was Monday, so wasn't ready. Is your salon open on Saturday? If it is that was a rude awakening, customers on the way.

dmc, sorry you are in a funk about the weather. Just put on the shorts, sandals, spread some sand on the floor, hang a sun light, and pretend you are on a beach somewhere.

woodspirit, glad you have a spousal unit that doesn't mind helping clean. I told DH last night that Monday morning I was conducting a class called "toilet bowl cleaning 101" and it was a mandatory class. In 41 years or marriage, I can't recall ever seeing him do that cleaning job. Most of his expertise is in waltzing with the vac. I don't get to Berea very often, it is about 90 miles from here. But the next time I am there, I will ask about your friend. Small world isn't it.

kittymom, since I have not properly chastised you, here goes... now don't get out and do something stupid which will set your recouperation back. All of winter's debris, dead leaves, and new weeds will all be there when you are properly healed. I think that about covers everyone here at coffee.

This afternoon, the sun was shining, but the wind was chilly. Put on a heavy shirt, and got out and cleaned some beds of winter's debris. I had done nothing to my wildflower bed as some things were blooming well past frost. So it was a mess. I have two half whiskey barrels on each side of the garage entrance, and the winter here was so mild that after pulling stuff from them discovered that some vinca had survived, and is greening up. So now with the geraniums I saved, and the vinca coming back, I have those barrells all taken care of. I won't put the geraniums in for a while yet, just meant that I won't have to buy plants for there. So after piling up big piles of spent plants, leaves, and other debris, discovered that my wheel barrow is still at my mother's. And to top that off, DH is working on truck brakes, so had no way of getting it home. I guess I could have walked there 1/4 mile, and pushed it home, but was afraid that some neighbor would call 911 for the men in white jackets. So will wait until Monday to retrieve it.

Well, I am off to check some other forums before calling it a day. Everyone have a nice restful night.

dcat, he is still as rambuctious as before, lol nothing stops him I think right now he is just too happy to get rid of that cone, and so am I.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Give him a big hug from me. I hate to see my animals in distress, and I am sure that the cone "distressed" him. Now he is back to the same way of life. Good for him, and good for you, as you won't have to look at his pitiful eyes begging you to take it off.

Bartlesville, OK(Zone 6a)

OK, OK, I have now been properly chastised by all of you. LOL

I didn't do anything today to hurt myself further, because I hurt too much from yesterday. Actually, I hurt the most from the pilling incident. And another great time we had tonight with the pill. Managed a whole pill but lost the half. Still hasn't been found. Someday, I will come across little half pills all across the family room.

It is raining somemore. Tulsa has had over an inch at Channel 2, so that means nobody else needs anymore now. We got .14, but at least they had over an inch at the station. (said sarcastically)

It is raining nicely right now, nice and slow, but it would be good if it could do that for 3 or 4 days and it would all soak in.

I got some seeds started in my little starter cups that sit in the trays with the clear top. I started two of those trays with about 10 different types in each tray. I have two more trays and I need to soak the MG's and the cannas before I can start them. I 'winter sowed' some things in pop bottles and they have mostly come up, but the amaranth came loose when I watered them and I had to go ahead and transplant them. They were only like little hairs, I don't know for sure how they are going to do. I'm hoping.

I have two types of purple millet which was coming up really good. Then Asia Anne decided it would be good to chew the tops off of all of them. Now this is my own fault, because I used to plant wheat grass and put it on the plant(kitty bed) stand for her to eat. I didn't think about her thinking that this was what this was. I think they will still make it, but they need to be transplanted too. I hope she doesn't finish them off before I can do that.

I had DH move some of the pots that I had on the wintering over table so I could sit my trays there. I bring these things in, geraniums, etc. they look like crap by the time spring comes, and I want fresh plants anyway. I don't know why I waste my time and space trying to keep them over. Then I feel bad when I throw them out. They are PLANTS for goodness sake. LOL

Maria, I am so glad Samson is free. I know he is happy. Now you can dance again. LOL

Defoecat, I am so glad your MIL is home and happy. Praying it stays that way. She sounds like a really nice lady.

Mary, I love to see AmandaPanda. I love the name too.

Hey Kelly......tomorrow is Sunday. LOL...sorry, couldn't resist.

Maria, .on Wednesday I responded to your comments as follows:

"Maria, thank you for quoting your daughter's comments about the Bosch. I've heard nothing but good things about it. When I looked into them at the store, I was really impressed, The inside is all stainless steel. Not that cheap plastic all the other ones have. And not the coated racks, that eventually chip and discolor.

I am more determined than before that that is the one I want. One model with all the features I need is $599, which is not bad. Subtract the $75 rebate, and the refund of the maintenance agreement from Sears, and whatever I can get for this one, and it will be a good deal."

It's easy to overlook a response when you have as large a group of chatters as we are! I appreciated your remarks, as they reflected what I had heard elsewhere...

I should be in bed! It's almost 11:30

Sheila

I wish I had bought a Bosch when we built this house four years ago but I am glad you decided on it
