I'M BACKKKKK! But oh sooo tired....You know how I am not a good sleeper...well the night before the trip to Chicago, I watched the clock every hour. At 4:30, I said to myself, oh man, only an hour before I have to get up and would you believe I OVERSLEPT!! Awoke with a start, looked at the clock and screamed- threw my clothes on (thank goodness I had forsight and laid everything out the night before) and roared down to the train station. I was amazed at the traffice that early in the morning - where the heck are all those people going???

Had a wonderful trip down on Amtrak- weather in Chicago was sunny and decent. Flower show was gorgeous - took lots of pics. Among all those thousands of people I ran into my neighbor! Got a little lost at the train station, but we asked for directions and help and found our way. Thank goodness we planned some extra time! All in all a wonderful time!

But man, am I bushed today. Going to force myself to the huff/puff, then home to snooze in the chair!!

Defoe - all that cleaning made me exhausted...Maria - I must have missed something about Samson needed duct tape - by the way, that dinner sounded fabulous. I seldom serve things so complicated.

3 inches of snow on the way...makes me want to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over my head

Oh, thought you would enjoy this, DH never even got the mail or paper yesterday...can you believe that...

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

sarv~glad you had a good trip! One year I WILL get to a flower show. Had an opportunity to go to Phila. this year but DD was coming home from college and the other two still need a shove out the door on occasion, so it wouldn't have worked....butI'm getting closer! Guess what? I never went out yesterday to get the mail or the paper either! It was nasty nasty wind and cold...I did however make it to the mailbox mid morning to send out a check for more daylilies!! (Amazing what motivates us, eh?)

Ann~OMG You got to just have some good plain fun and not be producing it yourself? Excellent!!

defoecat~a DH aunt who makes quilts sounds excellent! I think I always wanted a non-judgmental role model, someone who had made peace with her life and could do all those quiet, loving things. My mother had a tough life and never got to that point either, dying at 62 after a long battle with colon cancer. I hope I can be that for my kids and grandkids, so I still love to hear grandma stories. I want to learn to be one!! You certainly have inspired me...cleaning too...although no spring in sight here for spring cleaning

oops gotta run be back later!!!

So.App.Mtns., United States(Zone 5b)

Dorothy, I assume you've read the grandmother stories on a thread called "Grandma's Apron"??

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

LOL, Sarv! Why would he when he knew you would do it when you came home? Are you going to share pictures from the Garden Show with us? I only took a few at the one in Madison, it was so crowded and cluttered it was hard to get shots without people in the way or getting glare from the lighting. Maria needed duct tape to refasten Samson's cone, which he managed to get off.

Our dinner last night was quite good, and it was fun to visit with the guy providing the treat, he and DH played on the same softball team for several years. All the families used to come and watch so we had fun catching up and reminiscing. We keep saying we should plan a reunion but nobody ever gets around to it, and I'm not volunteering. One year we had the end of season party at our hobby farm, and everyone brought tents and campers and spent the night. Everybody brought food for dinner, and we had a bonfire for the kids to roast marshmallows and hot dogs. Made a big breakfast the next morning and sent everyone on their way.

Susan, it was good you were able to talk to your DD, I'm sure she will feel worse today, as you said. Now take care of that arm, so you can go visit her when you can get behind the wheel again.

I don't want to hear about any more house cleaning. I'm fond of my cobwebs and dust bunnies, and I don't want them worrying about a cleaning binge on my part. Like that's going to happen.

Weather warnings still being issued, but I think with all the fuss they are making about it, we probably won't get much of a snow fall. They are so seldom right.

I have a stack of mending waiting for me, so I'm going to get busy, and try to follow up with more responses later. If I don't get at it, it will just get postponed again. I'm already dressed, and had a yogurt so I'm good to go.

Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)

Good morning everybody. Went to sleep last night, and didn't move. So evidently a cure for insomnia is house work. LOL, bet many will not take the cure though.
I promise, I will not post today about anything that I do, except to say, this is grocery/errand day, so you know won't be much work done today.

101, do you want me to make a plane reservation for you too? That would be like a mini RU, if you could go. You fussed about me working too hard, sounds like you did your share of house work too.

Well won't comment further, but will be back later to check in.

Have a good day.

Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)

Good Morning all! I read the posts last night, but by the time I finished that, I was too tired to write. Hit the pillow and I was out.

Everything went well with DS. He is in a cast from his hand almost up to his armpit. We go back to the Dr. on Good Friday to see how things are progressing. He took out the staples from the surgery yesterday. I'm such a chicken. I couldn't even watch them take the staples out.

Defoe - I wishI had the time to do the kind of cleaning your doing. Weekends just aren't long enough. If I can keep the laundry monster in his place and keep the kitchen clean and floors vacumed, I'm doing good.

Sarv - Glad you had a good time at the flower show. Did you know your neighbor was going? Can't wait to see Pics.

DMC - I've done the Philly flower show a couple times. Very beutiful displays, but sooooo crowded.

Susan - Glad everything went well with DD. So glad you got to talk to her last night.

I know I'm missing people. Will try to get back at lunch time. See Ya!

Morning!

Thought I'd better sneak in here while I can and say hi to everyone!

My goodness ... we sure have a bunch of early birds in our group! LOL

Sarv, sounds like you had a marvelous day yesterday. So glad you had such a great time. Now wasn't that *something* running into your neighbor like that. LOL

Maria, thanks for the invite. You don't know how much I wish it was possible. That would be oh so much fun. How's Samson managing?

Defoe ... ~~~

Meezers, sounds like a great night last night. And as far as the housework goes ... you won't be hearing any such talk from me! LOL After all this company ... I'm playing in the dirt, not cleaning any! ;)

Well, for now ... guess I'd better get up and get on some clothes. I want to do a bit of cooking today. Going to make a broccli salad, marinade a roast for sandwiches and fix a spinach dip for starters. Want to have plenty of munchies we can pull out just in case. There is a home and garden show at our local conference centeron Sat. Don't know what it will consist of, but we'll probably check it out. Hi to everyone.
... Elaine

Hi Suzie ... we posted at the same time. So glad to hear your DS made it through the procedure okay. Tell him to *behave* so he can get that horrid caste off real soon. Know that must be real uncomfortable, but at least it hasn't gotten too hot yet.

Good morning everyone.

Sarv, I'm glad you had a good time at the flower show, and even the trip itself. And good for you making yourself go to huff and puff today even through you might not feel like it. It's always good to get back into our regular routine, and although you are tired it is a different kind of tired and you need to get those muscles working again! And then you can sleep without feeling like a slug.

Maria, what wonderful dinners you cook! And from the pictures you post I can see that you serve them in style too, pretty dishes, nice linens and silverware. It's an art. How is Samson today? Does he act nicely when your daughter and son in law come to visit? Your first post was at 3:54 my time, and I was still far into sleepyland at that time.

Today I'm going to town, need to do a bit of shopping. I skipped going on Tuesday which is my regular day because of the back adjustment the day before which I did not want to disturb by getting in and out of the pickup a bunch of times. Hubby fed the horses for me for 2 days but I was back to doing it yesterday, very carefully, no twisting, and being careful where I put my feet out there on rough ground. Another thing I am doing to keep my new allignment is sleeping with a small pillow between my knees when I am on my side, it sure makes a difference in the way my hips feel.

VAnn, I'm glad you got to attend such a nice concert. It's always a good thing to look at something familiar in a new way, in this case listening instead of playing.

Darius, where is the thread called Grandma's Apron? I would like to read it. The DG site is so big now it is easy to miss a lot. I don't go to many of the forums. When will you be making your departure for your sister's place?

Meezer, like you, I'm fond of my cobwebs and dust bunnies. They're old friends. Some of the cobwebs have grandchildren. I guess my house is clean enough to be healthy and messy enough to be happy. AmandaPanda reaches under the furniture to try to retrieve her lost toys and pulls out some ancient dust bunnies at times. If I move the furniture it would be like a treasure hunt of lost kitty toys.

It's time to put another log on the fire, cook some breakfast and go feed the horses. So far today it isn't snowing, but it could be in another 5 minutes. Bye for now.

Rehoboth, MA(Zone 5a)

Hi again
Of course you were asleep, Mary, sometimes I forget about time zones, I spoiled some ones Olympic game by discussing an out come, felt awful about it! Thank you for the complement, and every one elses.
Yes, I was brought up with very nice coutrements one needs to set a nice table, many people do not care for this sort of thing any more but I like to use what I have, fortuately my daughters feel the same way, I know they will continue with the tradition.
Also, Mary, go to Darius's page where you will find all her threads she started , Grama's is right there..
Sarv, glad you are back safe and sound now I can hardly wait to see your pictures. I have been to flowershows in Boston and Providence, love them always leaving quite a bit of money there. Dinner is not cmplicated at all, just takes time to prepare it.
Samson is ok, cone is full of duct tape, this morning it split on one side, running out of tape lol

till later, have to consult my accountant about taxes, yuk how I dislike that sort of busyness

Darius, new hairdo? You look a little different from other pics I've seen of you. Are you still planning on doing some traveling this summer? If so, there's an extra bed here for as long as you care to "stay and play". Molly, Jeremy and you have done so much in such a short time. You all need to sit back for a bit and watch your efforts grow.

Maria "butterfly lady" - I would so love to have you visit me, but our winters, while not nearly as harsh as you have, are somewhat dreary and gray, and your summers are much nicer than ours. That leaves our beautiful falls which tend to be long and colorful, or our very short springs which bring many early flowers. If you are ever in this area, we would love to have you and Samson stop in. In this part of the country when we say "ya'll come" we mean it!

Actually, that invite goes for all of you here at "coffee..." - the door is open and we'll leave the light on for ya"

Mary - by all means, read Grandma's apron. It is a trip into another world of love and faith.

Elaine - you are the true "Southern Lady". Soft and sweet as warm butter on the outside, with a steel core that will withstand all adversity. Have fun with your company then head for the yard to get "down and dirty"!

susieq - just be glad that the broken arm is now, rather than this summer when school is out, and its so hot.

defoe - if housework is a cure for insomnia, then it looks like I'll be missing some sleep. I refuse to do any more than is absolutely necessary to get by until one day before company arrives. At that point, it is best for all extra people and pets to head outdoors, or end up in the washing machine, dishwasher, trash or sucked up into the vacc. I can do an amazing amount of work in very few hours when pushed, but I mostly choose to do the bare basics. Fortunately, I have a husband who agrees with this and at push time, he does as much of the housework and cooking as I do. He is the heartbeat of my life.

meezer - pull up a chair and we'll sit here on my front porch and get all the mending done while we look down the hill at the lake and listen to the birds sing, and chat about this and that. Its so much more pleasant with friends.

sarv, I'm the one at this house that doesn't get the mail. We have rural delivery, but the driveway is 1/2 mile long and I really hate it when I walk out there only to find that the carrier is running later than usual and there is no mail, or its only junk stuff, and I still have that 1/2 mile to walk back!

come on Laurie, open your pretty eyes and join us this lovely day! Remember - Spring is almost with us and we have to be ready to garden.

ya'll come now, ya hear!
ginni

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

Thank you darius for the Grandma's Apron link, that is right down my alley! Glad I let you guys in on that secret!!

Mary~I hope your bones are holding together, ouch...wish I were out riding for you, but the wind here is howling and I'm sick of it...I'm not into wind, and this has been relentless. I hope you're spared much more snow. March is always this way, you'd think I'd have caught on by now... I never like March.....

suzie~glad DS made out well. It should get easier from here on in. My friend said the flower show is almost unbearably crowded. Maybe I wouldn't enjoy it anyway...no matter how much I think I want to do things, pack me in like a sardine, shove me around a few times, and all I want to do is get out! I get claustrophobic. (And then when you hear coughing and sneezing and you think about the air quality...well, maybe I'm neurotic too)

m5~I like the sound of your end of season party. I always thought I'd like to have a fancy hat croquet party for laughs, and a cowboy party with all the very cool old cowboy songs and a campfire. Maybe if we get a flush toilet up at the farm I can do that up there. First time I've had lots of open space for such a thing.

I'm going to putter around...I might vaccuum. The dust bunnies are cute, but they're making me sneeze. Or would you like me to round them up and mail them to the dust bunny breeders??LOL. They're big and healthy and seem to breed very well.

Schroon Lake, NY(Zone 4a)

ginni~I agree with your cleaning regime...I remember one year dragging everything (even the sofa) out onto the deck and cleaning for T'giving company. Everything got beat, cleaned,. washed, polished, before it came back in to the polished floors. It started snowing unexpectedly and I was throwing tarps over furniture!! That was the cleanest it ever was.

Starkville, MS

dmc - sounds like me when I found myself hosting the Christmas gathering a few years ago - I had over twenty people coming for the Christmas dinner and from Dec 10th to the 23rd nothing was safe around here! We ended up with a beautiful day and all the kids (about 7 of them under the age of 10) were able to go outside and run and play to their hearts content. They are all "city kids" who could run circles around me in a mall, but I have the advantage here in the country! That was three years ago and the dust bunnies and spiders that have been here since then have names, and are breeding quite radiply!

I have a beautiful lake full of bass and bream (also breeding profusely) but how do you catch, clean and cook George, Jill, Johnnie and Christie? Actually, I do go fishing and, yes I clean and cook what I catch - I just go to the far side of the lake to fish.
Our property isn't fenced and has very poor grass so horses are out of the question for me now. I do miss having them though. I grew up riding more than I walked. If I wasn't on a horse, in a tree or in the swimming hole, I was at one of my Grandmother's knees learning how to do any one of a dozen things. Mom let me cook and do crafts with her. Dad was my main riding partner, and in the Spring, he made kites for us to fly.

What has happened to that simple, clean life, where a child could really be a child?

sorry for rambling, just got caught up in the past

ginni

waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)

Finished my mending! Actually, I was putting extenders on a bunch of new bras, I never get a decent fit otherwise. All done. Tucked away and the rest of the day is mine.

Tgif, yes, that was a fun party. We had horseshoes, and croquet, and bocce ball, and jars for the kids to catch fireflies, lots of fun, no squabbles or tears. Great parents, and good kids made it so. I'm like you, if company is coming I go into hypercleaning mode and just go straight through until everything is spic and span. Other wise, I just ignore it. DH never complains either. Not like it would do him much good.

Dmcd, we rented a portapotty for the party. We had an ancient septic system with small capacity, and with lots of kids, beer, soda, and an overnight stay , we didn't trust it to hold up.

Suzie, I'm not squeamish but I don't think I'd like to watch staples being taken out either. He'll be happy when he has freedom of motion with the arm again. Don't expect it to slow him down though!

In the ongoing dishwasher repair debacle, all the parts for the repair to the dishwasher did not arrive as promised, so I had to call them this morning and cancel the service call. The robot I spoke to said the parts are back ordered until the end of the month, so why did another package come in this afternoon? It has a label that says there is an invoice inside, but yesterday's pkg said that too, and there wasn't one. So I will have to look at the list and see if they are all here and reschedule . GAaaaahhhhh!!

All the talk aout cleaning makes me think I should pull out the 'frig and the uprigoht freezer and see what the little beasties have flipped under there. Milk bottle rings, toy mice, twist ties, and miscellaneous writing instruments are the usual haul, but occasionally I find a surprise. A stray refrigerator magnet, a button or two, or some other small object that was attractive for a while and soon forgotten. Maybe I'll just stick Swiffer squares around a yardstick, and just swoosh underneath.

~~~ to Elaine, Maria, MaryE, Molly and I'm sure I've left out lots of folks, but you know I am alwlays talking to all of you and reading all the posts even if I don't mention you by name. Here's the view out to the deck, it's been coming down all day, not heavily just steady. Filled the feeders since all the ground is covered again, and have had lots of visitors flying in. Sammi is very interested.
Yes, Sarv, we want pictures. Glad you had a good time.
And Darius, nekkid photo of you, tsk tsk, you are wild, girl! Speaking of which, how come Mickey Mouse wears pants and Donald Duck doesn't? Good luck with your visit to your DS, seems like every other visit or so, she gets a bee in her bonnet about something.
I know what you mean, ginni, some of my neighbors lug there children constantly to play organised in a league, if it is monday it must be football if it is tuesday it is baseball and so on and so on. They get home very late have dinner around 8 pm then they have to do home work never get to bed befor 10. No wonder they are exhausted and cranky not behaving constantly fighting with their parents.
I could have never put up with that, we did most recreational fun as a family, school was school the rest was family time, that included, skiing, swimming, traveling and chores around the house, gardening, taking care of the animals , learning how to cook and sew, even the boys had to know the how to. Of course they had friends but in this rueal area they were few and far between, arrangenments had to be made for a visit.
They grew up into wonderful adults very indepentant of any followers of group needs.
Oh Genni
The DH and I were talking about such as that the other night. We went out for burgers and fries and started talking about how it didn't even smell like burgers when you walk in anymore. Then he said ... "we shouldn't have ordered these fries. We didn't eat enough to warrent buying them. They cost $1.39. To which I said ... you're joking, right?" Then it started! LOL Remember when an order of frys had maybe 10 or 15 fries in that little box and when you ordered a drink it was Coke or Sprite ... maybe Fanta orange or Grape but that was it? And there were *no* free refills. No wonder kids are over weight. They order double burgers, super size the fries and fill up the drink as much as they want! :) Okay ... that's my walk down memory lane!!! LOL
Darius, cute pic. Shame on you for beggin, though! hehehe ;) Didn't think I'd notice, did ya! LOL
Maria, how in the world did Samson manage to tear his halo? Guess it's not a halo after all! :)
Okay, I've got to get up for now. Will check in later if I get the chance. Am waving to those I'm missing. ~~~~
Y'all are cute teasing me about the food dish, LOL. And, you are also right that visits with my sis are potential minefields. I don't have much choice, though, if I want a permanent place to live, and have my own garden again.
Pleasureville, KY(Zone 6a)
I'm home from the grocery. Consumed my whole day, with a stop at the library, Walmart Lowes, and a dentist appointment while in town.
I need to start something for supper, so I will be back later to catch up.
south of Grand Rapid, MI(Zone 5a)
Hi everyone!! Just back from Hobby Lobby...My neice (the one who is so needy) called and wanted me to meet her there. We had a good time..She ended up with a cart heaping full of stuff (and she doesn't have a pot to pee in) - and nothing was on sale. I told her I almost never get anything there not on sale. She just shrugged her shoulders...
I am the tiredest (is that a word?) that I have ever been>>>gonna sleep good tonight-I am sure..
Every summer we had several galas at our house. It was the only time we really got things done around the house (restaining the deck - new doors etc) I kept having these for many,many years and finally decided to heck with it - someone else could do it. One cousin had it for a couple of years,but no one else stepped up to volunteer, so it went by the way side. I really should do it again, as the deck needs restaining!! But -think I'll pass. It is just too much work for me now...I'm getting lazier and lazier and more into my gardens etc.
I only move my frig when it goes kaputt! Then I am aghast at the amount of crud underneath it. Mine has a collection pan underneath it,so I can't just use a swiffer. Guess that means it doesn't get cleaned!! When I croak, people will probably talk -but I won't hear it!! LOL
DH just gave me the most wonderful back/shoulder rub - see what going away for one day does!! I'll even forgive him for not doing the dishes....
tgif - I'll coming fishing. There is nothing more relaxing than just watching that bobber go up and down...I don't do fish cleaning tho - sorry....I could sit in a boat all day long
M5 - that snow is coming down here now- thanks... I just hate it....only good thing is they are saying it won't last long this time of the year...my poor daffys need long johns
dmc - there were a ton of people in line to get into the flower show, but once inside there was so much room that it didn't seem crowded - all in all a good experience for me!
IO1- I'm coming to your house for eats today!! I love broccoli salad...
Well, DH said I am in charge of dinner tonight - making one of those bisquick cheeseburger pie things- tasty and not too much work..
And where is this pic of Darius naked?? I missed it somehow....
Lambertville, NJ(Zone 6a)
You just keep that snow out your way Sarv and M5. Hard to beleive it was almost 80 here on Monday. Having lows in the low 20's this weekend.
I don't have dust bunnies at my house. Mine are dust buffalo.
We had one big event at our house last summer for DS's graduation. I would much rather have people over in small groups.
Well I told you all about my 3 1/2 hour meeing the other day. We are working with a potential new client, which could turn into one big headache. To make up for the impending trouble, one of the bosses left a bag of dove chocolates near the fridge. He does that whenever something is about to explode. I think this time he needs to kick it up a notch and get us Godiva chocolate. LOL
Almost time to go home. Parents are back from FL, so we will be having our thurs. night tea again. Bye for nowl
Moab, UT(Zone 6b)
My Aunt Mabel would tat on her half-mile walk to the mail box. I always thought she was some kind of magician to be able to do that while walking right along - she made lovely lace edgings.
My Momma lost her Momma when she was only 13 yrs old. So she didn't have a mamma much less me have a gran'ma. But I had an Aunt Dibby who lived like grandmas in stories did ... on a dairy farm with barn cats and one in-house long haired kitty. With haying and hayloft and cows to fetch and eggs to gather and peas to shell on the screened porch under the shade of the pines... and sleeping on a feather bed.. and playing with old cast iron toys on the attic stairs... had the experience yup I did.
And then when my kids were little my Mom did a great job of being grandma to my kids... if an unusual one - what with water fights in the house and sleigh riding down the nearby hill with them. Guess I be lucky lady.
As to 'dust bunnies':
Thumbnail by BloomsWithaView
Y'all are gonna make me cry with all this talk about Grandma's. I had the *best* one in the whole wide world. She lived in a true southern home with wrap around porches and hard wood oak floors. Had a smoke house and hogs and cows. We had to pick peas and butterbeans and shell then on the back porch with the fan blowing to keep the flys and nats away. We put up what we ate and had plenty of meat. As kids we played in the sand and she had lots of flowers. We climbed trees and fished. But most of all ... when I'd ask Mama if I could spend the night with Grandma and she'd say "You didn't bring your clothes." Grandma would say ... "We'll just make some." And that's what she'd do! She was one in a million. When you went to Grandma's you could do *no* wrong.
... Elaine
waukesha, WI(Zone 5a)
Sarv, I was teasing Darius because she posted a picture of Snoopy holding up his food dish, and of course that represented her asking Maria for some of her delicious dinner....and Snoopy, unlike the Disney characters does not wear clothes. Loooong explanation for such a silly comment from me! Fortunately, Darius got it right away!!k
It has stopped snowing, for the time being, but they are saying maybe more tonight. I'd go out and get the mail because I'm expecting some packages but I don't want to walk in the slush, so I'll have to wait for DH to come home. Yesterday they had gyros at his work meeting and he brought home two, so that's dinner tonight. Plus I bought a lemon pie at Baker's Square yesterday, for dessert. So, another no dishwashing night. Yippee.
Did you notice the horse in the photo? I was surprised that it was out. The neighbor directly below us sold both of his, and I miss seeing them come out in the morning, so excited to be outside. They would run around and chase each other and play. The other neighbor may be boarding horses for other people, sometimes there are six or eight out there in that field. They got used to me giving them treats last summer, peppermints or carrots or apples, and would come over to the corner when I'd be out weeding or digging. If I didn't produce anything from my pocket, they'd lose interest and wander away.
Days are half and half now, sun up at 6 something and down at six something. I wonder how well we'll be able to keep it up once we get outside and start our gardens again.
Got an email from the rescue lady, kitten has a cold, sneezing and coughing, but still no picture. This puts this off for at least another week and a half. But before we drive down there, I want to see it. I think I'm not going to email her anymore for a while and see if she gets inspired.
Did anybody watch the Sopranos the other night? There is another new series starting on HBO, about a polygamous family in Utah, the first episode was interesting. I might need to spring for a laptop!!
After I pay the vet bills and the dishwasher...Oh, today they delivered TWO spray arms. LOL Can you believe it?
Later dudes!
Sheila
Me again, back from town. I didn't run here and there today, just went to the grocery and came home since I didn't want to risk doing too much climbing in and out of the pickup (it's a big 3/4 ton and quite a step to get into it). Better safe than sorry. And so far it feels ok, it's been 3 days so I'm pleased with that.
Meezer, I did notice the horse in your picture.
Darius, thanks for the link to Grandma's Apron. It sure looks like good reading but will take some time.
The sun is out between waves of clouds that so far have not produced a single snowflake today. Oh, and the wind is doing it's thing so even though it is 38 degrees it sure doesn't feel like it. Brrrr. We have a lot of snow on the mountains around us, so no matter which way the wind blows, it comes over snow.
A look at my patch of purple iris reticulata shows about half a dozen of them in bloom, out of about 30. Last year they all bloomed pretty much at once, but the weather was warmer when they did it. They were just in too much of a hurry this year.
I need to be going, gotta get some housework done, easy stuff.
Hi All,
I have been invited to re-join coffee so I thought I'd re-introduce myself for those who may not remember me due to my absence,,,ROFLOL. My name is Kelly. I'm a hairdresser. I have a Salon in my home which has both it's pros and con's. Mostly pros. Have been a hairdresser for 25 years. Was born and raised in a Northwest suburb of Chicago and moved to central WI going on 15 years ago.
I'm engaged for 9 years to Bill (no, there's never going to be a wedding,,,I just wanted a ring,,,LOL),,,,,I love to read,,cross stitch, crochet, and, obviously garden.
Susan called on a search and rescue mission Tuesday morning. I have just been WAY busy in the Salon and every evening seems to go so quickly, haven't taken much time to get on DG and post. Had a long post done one day and *poof* it was gone,,,grrrrr
Bill's sled has just under $2900.00 damage to it,,,not quite enough to total it,,,so it will get fixed and then he'll beller that somethings not right.That's in the works right now.
Monday Bill lost his job. Long story short his boss is a #### and wouldn't even listen to what Bill had to say. So, being that I am the type that just CAN'T let something go, I wrote a very long, nicely worded letter to the ####, the VP of the company and the owner of the company. All 3 letters went out this morning. Will be interesting to see if Bill hears from any one of the 3 of them. So, nights this week have been working on my little letter and getting just the right jabs in here and there.
He has a job that he will be starting Sunday night,,,it's 3rd shift which he's not at all happy about,,,but he can work his way to a first shift position eventually. It's a very low starting wage,,,,$8.40 per hour,,,however Bill has a friend that works there and said that within 2 weeks, Bill will be his lead guy and he'll get a bump to $10.00 per hour right away,,,so that made him feel a little better. They give raises based on each individuals work, so, it shouldn't be long before Bill is at a better pay rate.
They know he's owned his own business and managed the warehouse which he just got let go from. He told the HR guy the story of what led to him being let go,,,the HR guy said he's been in the same position so knew what Bill was going through. The HR guy gave him a tour of the facility,,,a lot of the people that work there were saying hi to Bill as he was walking around and that showed the HR guy that he was well liked or noone would be saying hello to him. Also was impressed that Bill had questions all ready to ask him in the interview and told Bill he thinks he'll do very well with this co.
Well, in a nutshell that's what's been going on in the nuthouse. Thank God for meds. LOL
Well, gonna go catch up on some more threads. Will Try to check in later.
Back for my evening check in before I hit the couch. On my new laptop in my lazyboy - life is good!!
GG - sorry to hear of Bill's job loss - been there done that twice with my DH. He still has a crappy job, but it gets him out of the house so I can play LOL Seems like job losses are real common now a days. I just saw the daughter of friends of ours and both the daughter and husband lost their jobs (worked at the same place) They are head over heels in debt too...parents are in a tizzy and the poor daughter is heartbroken. So sad when this happens. What was his former job?
DS just called and asked us to go to Cabella's with him this weekend. I haven't been there, so it will be an experience. DH will go, but doesn't want to leave at 8am! Hmmm, we'll see!!
LOL m5 -two arms - keep them both- that old dishwasher may need them! What's with the no picture of the kitty?? Maybe she is like me and can't figure it all out!! I've never watched one episode of the Sopranos - am I missing something great? DH has the new show 'inventions' on and I think it is a royal dud....
Had the last of the ice cream with caramel and a dash of hot fudge. It's all gone now...time for a trip to the store!!
Just got invited to one of those home interior parties - I hate them. It is a new sister-in-law, so i will show up - just to be nice. Probably buy the cheapest, least offensive thing that's there...
Still cold here, but warm enough that the snow that fell melted. I'm sending it east for the rest of you to enjoy...
Kell y Just take care. Hang onto your head above all.
Somebody said something about restful fishing while watching a bobber. Been so long since i fished that way I forgot they still do that. since i am headed back into that area of fishing I might just try that in a day are so. Beats flying around a lake 60 mph wearing your arm into arthritis casting lures.
We had a total of 28 tornados in central Missouri sunday night. Was a rare evening of wondering when we were going to get caught. One came through 6 miles up from us and caught a small trailor park along hwy 5. Rolled 3 of them up in a pile and pretty much just tore several more apart. Everyone is saying it must have been a F2. One trailor is on top of the other. There were 5 kids in that one and no injuries. You can find insulation and trailor metal 5 miles up from there. Looked to me like the path must have been about 100 yrd wide from the way it broke of trees going through the woods.
Oz, how scary! Glad you are okay.
Kelly, good for Bill. Better than no job at all.
Made strawberry shortcake tonight, forgot to take a photo but I plan to make more tomorrow... enough to cyber share!
Starkville, MS
Been fishing from the bank or in a 12' john boat for many a year just sitting there quietly, often even hoping the fish *don't* bite 'cause it would disturb the peacefulness of the day, and require cleaning before the day was over. Mostly, I release most of what I catch, and keep only ones that are injured or are just right for supper. Fishing to me is for the peace and quiet, not going looking for fish, but letting them come to me.
Kelly, welcome back - I missed ya. You know, it sounds to me like maybe, just *maybe*, Bill might come out of this better off. The new company seems to care about their people, and pay attention to details. I hope it works out to be a good change for him.
Maria - don't give up on me - I am still trying to put the image of my Grandparents into words. When I get it all together, I'll post some of it.
blooms - I can't walk and chew gun at the same time! How could she *tat* and walk?! My maternal Grandmother taught me to crochet when I was 4 or 5 years and I still enjoy doing it. She had started me on tatting, but she died before I had enough knowledge to retain it. I wish I could have kept it up, but I never got back into it like I did crochet.
Its getting close to my beddybye time, so I'm off to find the toothbrush and such. I'll meet you all here in the morning. I'll try to get inspired to get something on the counter.
goodnight, Gracie
Just a quick goodnight to everyone. I'm too tired to respond to anything, but have read it all.
Thanks for the recommendations for reading up on the glassware (in my "spare" time, did you say?) Maybe I'll get to it one of these days! My mother would rather give it away to family members if any of them are interested anyway. I'm keeping a few pieces myself.
Finally got some more seeds planted today. The peas are in the greenhouse and will hopefully be transplanted outdoors in the next week or two.
Really must hit the bed ---- it's an early rising day tomorrow (Ugh!)
