Columbines of all sorts

St. Peter's, PE(Zone 6a)

Well we have had a beautiful weekend! Lots of sun and warmth combine that with the week of rain we received and it does the garden good. My pink arabis and my white arabis have started to bloom also my Pulmonaria as well. There are only a few things that I waiting on now to see if they made it thru the winter. My columbines are doing fab and my dwarf columbine is beginning to get buds. Hope the week brings lots sunny skies.

Gees Steve im not sure when thay bloom,i know how you feel i can't wate myself.
When i bought the seed thay told me thay were hardy to zone 7 and the chanches of them comeing back to flower was nill.
ha,ha i laugh it them mine did there biannual so this year i will also get seed to grow more .
I love blue and in the pictures i have seen thay seem to be the most intence blue there is.
But when thay do bloom i will put the pic's of them right away.
Trillums are so pretty i dont think we have any native ones here,
now dont quot me on that mmmmmm i should ask Todd, we have one flower it doze look like a trillum.
I did get my pic,s today but havent got them posted yet.

(Zone 6a)

Good thing you tried the poppies anyway and didn't listen to whoever told you they weren't hardy! It's funny how sometimes one place says a plant is hardy to zone 4 or something and another says its hardy to zone 2. BTW, I saw some blue impatiens on the annual forum. And their perennial too!
WOO HOO! You should go check it out!

I really like those sweet williams and the daylily. Such nice colouring.....especially the sw's. Dianthus never seem to last for along time around here....they get all leggy after a number of years. I chopped some dianthus/carnation(?) right back to the woody stems but I don't think it's going to sprout again.

Steve

comebychance, NL(Zone 5b)

yes steve i have to do that with some of the ones i have ,not the one in the pic though that one lasts for years,i even took cuttings of it and thay root realy will .Now i do have one called britiny its a small red one that doze get legy and i cut mine back as early as i can in spring
befor new growth, and it doze fine but if cut when the new growth starts forget it .the thing dozent do will.

Cool, what type of Trillum is it? I also love May apples, they look like mini palm trees. I think I cut my dianthus back in march, right back to the woody stem....no leaves left.....I checked it....think its dead. I got a good number of years out of it anyways. Now I have a spot I can put something else in! hehehe

Steve

The name of the trillium is T.Cernuum,or The nodding trillium.
To bad about your dianthus,i say the same thing when something of mine bites the bullet.
My lupins has gone to a better place. Not to fond of them dont live long at all anyway i now have space for a fue more daylilys.
Oh heres a pic of my baby ,one of the himalayan blue poppy

Nice garden there! I wish mine looked like that! But things have been looking up for it lately. Cute poppy, I hope he does well for you. I have an Oriental poppy, shirly poppies and danish flag poppies......although I'm not sure if the danish flag came up much cause I can't tell them apart from the shirlies....
Do you know if Lupins like shade? I saw in a magazine that they were shade plants...but I always thought they were sun?

Steve

St. Peter's, PE(Zone 6a)

Steve,
Lupins love the sun. I don't have any in my garden but they grow completely wild here. What a gorgeous site to see lots of fields full with Lupins it is something I look forward to every year.

Michelle
