Yes vossner - I think you will like them!

Denver, CO

I wonder what Narcissus Voss has on her mind.

(Zone 7b)

Tulips! Mine are just a gleam in their bulb's eye still...

How pretty!!!

Monsella is a showy lady, great shot jmorth.

Steve. lilies too? Big flowers? Do you mean the whole kit and kaboodle of Acacia flower heads? They are scented, need the warmth now when they open to enjoy it!

JamesCo yes the Acacia is evergreen, it's only supposed to be hardy to -5C, this has gone through at least -9C and prolonged frost, but I grew it from a seedling so it will be better grown and hardened to conditions, as well as in a sandy soil. I didn't have any seed last year, no pollinators at this time really, lots more flowers so I might try hand pollinating. I don't know if they need another tree but worth a try.

loveshercowdog (that's long!), lovely bed of tulips! I had an old metal baby's bath with Queen of Night and Shirley in, they looked gorgeous, I lifted them, dried them, stored in shed. Went to plant in Autumn, no bulbs, looked and looked, I thought they had been chucked by my over-tidy partner, but I found a few skins in a box where mice had been and every last one was gone! I have some late large singles red and yellow in a border that have been in the ground for years, they always return and make a good show, they were already here so don't know the names.

2zeus keep dreaming, it will come true!

vossner, we want pics!

Snow here. This will be a great opportunity to see just what is freeze/snow tolerant...

Note to self: need more 'Monsella.' I have a nice patch of related sports 'Abba' and 'Monte Carlo.' When they bloomed, I had a nessage on the answering machine that called them "soul food." There can't be a better hobby.

I had some Monte Carlo, with a lavender double, one really cold winter they got dug up and eaten!

I know this isn't the peony forum, but look, they're open!

Wow, and to think I'm thrilled to see this much of my peony now:

Notice the holes from the last downpour - I'm going around piling compost on things like this, after every rain lately.

Ahhhh.

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

I've been lurking and loving the pics.

Overwhelmed by Loveshercowdog's tulip extravaganza! Rivals kirkenhoff (you know dutch garden I mean and I don't want to look up the spelling!) (-:

I 'inspected' my baby bulb shoots for any sign of new growth. Alas, nothing green forthcoming for now, so will have to sit tight and appreciate your fabulous array of pictures.

The horrifying sight this morning:
You all know that odd color foliage turns when the water in the cell vacuoles is frozen, and moving the leaf will essentially shatter it?

I know Hyacinths will take it, but Dracunculus can survive it too, apparently. I am so suprised.

Blue Jacket or Delft, I forget. I like the indigo tubes, they photograph true to color.

Pickwick looks good in any situation.

And here, finally- this is crazy. I have a Lily, that I can only guess is an Orienpet with such broad leaves and thick stem, coming up fairly tall in a garden that I don't remember ever having a Lily in. It is a questionable spot for one. I wonder where my head was if I planted it. This is that stone-warmed garden.

"What the ____?" asked a friend today.
Ditto, I say.

Not finally- I have to share this happy accident. Eranthis hyemalis in front of Arum italicum.

HI Wallaby,

Yes I have lots of lilies emerging now. Nothing ready to bloom, but some of the Asiatics are HUGE with these thick stems - and a few that look like Orienpets or Orientals starting to just come up. Most of them bloom in May and June here.

Well James congrats on your flowers finally emerging thrugh the snow!!

Greenwood, IN(Zone 5b)

2zeus when do you usually have peak bloom in your area for spring bulbs?

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

James-- your dracunculus looks a lot like my frozen off shoot (from the last thread).

So are you saying you think your d. is going to survive the freeze looking like that?? Maybe there is hope for whatever mine is. (funny-- I planted dracunculus last year and maybe mine could be that, too!) Never came up last year that I know of). Oh, the suspense is killing me!

Your eranthus is very sweet with your arum.

I think we share the same tastes in bulbs, mine are just a month behind yours (and that makes me frustrated on this thread--mine will be 'old news'--I may have to move down to Zone 8 to beat you out!)

Have a good weekend.

Am now going out into Tammy's rain she sent us and check for more growth.

Corte Madera, CA

wow, kenton. so much snow! the little snow we had earlier is gone now. my plants are ok, and i picked more daffs. they are the same kind i've shown before. i planted about 200 of them to naturalize down the hill, and some areas....

the pinched stalks are about 14-16" and the blooms of the all yellow are 4.5" across. the white and light yellow center, 4". with orange center, 3".

this round planter is about to bloom as well. packed like sardines though. the lazy gardener was lazier that day.

ooh la la. Can't wait to see pics of your slope! Those daffs are real traffic stoppers with the red centers! Which kind are they again?

My DH might be in that bridge traffic tie up you mentioned. He is going up from SF to wine country with my DD this morning. Said the bad weather ruined his golf in Monterey and made him turn to drink in Napa. LOL

Should we have a part IV and try to get both II & III converted?
Both are longer than 250 entries!

I think this weekend may very well be the turning point for spring here. The air is different, it's warmer, the grass is showing more green, and bulbs are popping up everywhere! :-)

follow follow me! PARTY IS MOVING!

=)

Denver, CO

Fire away, Tammy. Maybe you can convince them better than I! There is just so much activity.
Tabasco, the Dracunculus came out fine after it thawed, nice and green. But it froze harder last night, I'm afraid to look. I have heard of Drac. coming up after the second year.

Annapet, I want ot know what Narc. #1 is, too.
K.

Denver, CO

Oh, thanks Annapet.

Cincinnati (Anderson, OH(Zone 6a)

OK I get it. New thread. http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/582419/

No more talk here or on Part II. Bye bye
