I really love what she did in this bed. I did the rocks, and she's made it sing.
The lumber is for 8' Clematis (she grows them very well) trellis I need to put up for her.
Spring Bulbs Pictures and discussion, Part III
Annapet- I'll bet if you get a bulb pot started at work, then show your finesse by planting it with annuals and such that look showy all season, (room for a brug?) you may even have requests to make more pots at work. What is better than that? Extra Garden space!
In fact, I have project area at the local Western CO botanical Gardens. (I work there weekends) I have not been able to really "Show'em how it's done" with a grand garden until this year. It has some Galanthus, Eranthis, Narc. bulbocodium (when do they bloom?) Dracunculus, and others. Two woody plants: 'Diane' Witchhazel and a variegated Catalpa that took some doing to acquire- I hope it grows. The Iron fence will have A large-flowered Clematis and Passiflora.
I would love plant suggestions for this project. (donations? -hint-hint)
Next year I want to buy bulk Chionodoxa to really make a "splash." What, 1000 to suffice?
Ignore the border of Iris, the "garden" is bordered by granite bits and surrounds that Bench. Sort of a 'Picnic Garden.'
Thanks for your patience, all.
K. James
Thanks for the walk through the bulb garden!
I have some bulbocodium Golden Bells amongst Viola Freckles and they flower when they are flowering, whenever that is! They have their foliage now, just looked and found pics of V. Freckles from 27th April, none of Golden Bells, hadn't had my digi camera for long then, got to be better organised this year! I have another clump of 3 N. bulbocodium species which are supposed to be shy flowering, they are getting well established now and starting to do something, lots of foliage now. Had 2 more but they got choked by something else.
My N Rip van Winkle is showing buds, only had a couple but they are increasing really well on a north facing bank, great accent this time of year. Also got some pics of my N tete a tete, they are about to burst! Post them later. it was 50 earlier, going cold again, but the rain has moved things along. The white crocus were all opening up. I have an acacia dealbata about to flower too, not bulbs I know but it's been in the ground since 2000, got it as a plug in 98/99, flowered last year but it was so dull, in February, it didn't sparkle, later this year along with everything else but lots of flowers!
Kenton I love the pics! Pls nobody stop posting pics! that is the best part.
Wow! Is your friend a DG member? If not, better work on her....
Wow Wallaby and James - beatiful pictures. I imagine it wil be even better when your big flowers are out!!
Thank vossner - and yes he really does believe he is pretty ferocious I am looking forward to you planting lots of southern daffs and we cans ee your explosion of color!
guess what, guess what: I'm so excited. Pipit has started blooming today. nothing pic worthy yet, but I will be bragging here just as soon as I get some good pic. yipee! The one bloom I was looking at is just like the pics I saw online.
I have some Pipits. Can't wait! This will be their first spring in my garden.
Congrats vossner - see I told you not to worry!!!
Post pics when you have them, kbaumle!
Oh, I will be a pic-posting maniac once things start blooming around here. I finally figured out why I keep buying houseplants. If I don't have one that doing 'something,' I go buy another one, which betters the odds that on any given day, one of them will be either blooming, sprouting, or shooting new growth. Taking care of houseplants (and gardens in general, I guess) is somewhat akin to watching the proverbial pot. LOL.
Come on, SPRING!!!!
Kylee, that is how I became buried in African violets this dreary winter last.
Wallaby, don't tell me that Acacia is evergreen? It has such a wonderfully delicate appeal. (I'm thinking Pollenate-Pollenate-Pollenate- seeds- sow...)
Jmorth, who is that fancy tulip?
McGlory; I think she thinks she is too busy. She may be, taking care of aging parents and doing her physical therapy/yoga. She has been amazed at the wonderful things I've learned/traded in DG and I think that excites her. It may be that it hurts her to sit at the computer too long, perhaps, too.
This is fun stuff- Just wait until the masses of Tulips are flooding in from zones 7-5...

Preparing for tulips. Camera loaded, so to speak.

HI All
When I come here I don't feel quite so emotional about spring. We've had an early spring this year. Some of the tulips are much shorter than last year, some are coming at different times, and some, like the two that follow are making me so very very happy. They are in the front yard, so gardeners are getting the word and driving by.
Maypower and Silverstream
THAT'S what I'm talkin' about! Beautiful, lhcd! Nothing says spring like a tulip, if you ask me.
Very nice, loveshercowdog! the tulips and pansies make a great combination!
The Definition of
"55 MPH Garden" to be sure.
I agree, very striking, cowdog! And we're almost neighbors!
Steve
If you come through Arlington, drive down Western Blvd.
About those narcissi....are those heirlooms? I just planted 2 similar varieties this year and love those delicate little faces. Do they return well for you?
I think I see lilies in your foliage. Wonder how early they will be this year?
Thank you for more tulips. I enjoy everything about them from the time they poke their heads up until they reveal when the look like inside.
Thanks for the kind words all
cynthia
Yes, they do return well - I have only a few tazettas as I tend to like the larger ones and Jonquilla better - but they all return very well. I thought these were done blooming and saw a little flower stalk open up today so I took a picture. I like tulips but tend to plant them in groups rather than en masse - I am more into the hyacinths and daffodils in large numbers. Yours look spectacular though!
You know most things are on time relative to when they came up last year and the year before. I take pictures witha date stamp so i can follow their progress. I have lots of lily stalks up but nothing ready to bloom yet. Usually they start at some point in April.
This LeReve is by my back door and is in terrible soil yet has come up faithfully for four years now...
Oh and yes they are consider heirlooms.....
great pics lhcd and steve. thanks steve those are gorgeous. won't they be just perfect w/ pipit?
