I may be dead when you read this

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Hi you all :-)
Just read this whole thread ,I am not laughing at you all but with you all...........

I also got into trouble TWICE in the same spot where I had started a new rosegarden.NOT only did I rototill up some treasured patches of beloved grass in front of our house but I made my big garden very long and deep to plant all the rosebushes I had bought, all LINED up in the driveway they were.....after all I HAD a plan :-)

Beeing eager but to my defense I didn't know there were wires in that area ,so I cut across some electrical wires which are running from where I was digging to a large lamp UNDERNEATH the driveway .Wonder I didn't get electrocuted ,my guardian angel was with me.

So my husband comes home,I was anxious and sooo proud because I used a rototiller all by my little self hahaha....so anyway I wanted to show him the new garden, obviously not telling him right away that the lamp didn't work.

Well it didn't go over too well.He drives into the yard and I can tell his look like..what the .... did you do this time ? he got mad about his grass beeing gone ,so I in turn got agressive and said : YEAH the light doesn't work either.....THERE NOW you know and I disappeared........
***
Well the next season I dug some more holes and did the same thing,

Got to love a husband like that!! Work with what you have. LOL

The plumber is gone and I have a huge (for me) strip that is dug deep enough to plant all sorts of bulbs and roses etc. If Tom fills it in, I will kill him. Last week he rushed to fill it in and I got nothing planted. And look what he got, another burst pipe. Now I can see exactly where that pipe is. I would plant it now but he wants to see the job the plumber did.

LOL Brigitte and you are still married!! I do not get why these men do not appreciate all the money we save them on gardeners!!!

Kell,

Dare I suggest you line that trench with plastic and make it a water feature? You are half-way there anyway.......

Oh Kell, I couldn't help but laugh. It sounds so much like something I would do.
Only my husband wouldn't not speak to me, he would never stop reminding me.

If I dug into a water or gas line, he would forbid me to dig again, but instead of him digging the holes for me, he would insist I wait for a hole until he could hire someone to come out and dig it for me. I am not that patient.

He gives me a hard time about being forgetful all the time, which has caused a real problem. We applied for long term health care a couple weeks ago. The lady that came out to interview me because of other health issues, asked me if anyone in the family told me I was forgetful. Well, I didn't think anything about it and laughed and said my husband teases me about it all the time. Well, wouldn't you know that I got turned down because of that statement and he got long term care. And I am the one that is most likely to need it the most.

I hope Tom get's over this soon. Bob just gave me some landscaping money, so let me know next time you feel like going nursery hopping.

Kell - I think you are a very smart girl. Look at the way you handled this.
Now, you are going to have him digging your holes again. He will be afraid not to. LOL.

I think you are so smart that you planned it! LOL You go girl!!!!

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Oh Kell I'm sorry that happened to youBut I just wished you had a picture of yourself once you discovered what you did..I betcha that would be a hit on The World's Funniest Videos..lol..
Or Ripley's Believe It or Not... ;o)))

Lucy, Lucy, Lucy! What are you up to now? Ricky is not happy with this and he's saying bad words in Spanish! LOL!

You poor thing! This has re-e-a-a-l-l-y been a bad week for you. Seriously, how are you doing, setting aside the plumbing thing? I think about you every day and hope you're doing ok. I know it's hard about Nick.

Oh Kell----are you still alive?? I hope so!! You sure live an interesting life! Your hubby is a charm!! I'll bet he will change his mind about not digging for you!! I'm sure he'd like to be the person in charge of the shovel from now on, if he thinks about it! Good luck telling him how grateful you are for all his help!! We women can be so helpless sometimes!! I think it makes them feel more MANLY!! smile!!

Kell, while I feel your pain, this has been such a hoot to keep up with! I do lots of goofy things and quickly forget them, lol. And now since you have more coveted space to plant, another great thread would be progression of the garden space you nearly lost your life over.

Is it legal to bury your wife in the hole you had to pay your plumber to dig?

That just seems, wrong somehow.

It is my DH who tries to fix things and ends up costing us money. He tried to fix a leaky faucet outside and snapped the copper pipe inside the brick wall. Or he was trying to fix our vapor light and fell thru the ceiling in the garage. Fixing the pipe under the sink in the kitchen he snapped another piece off. There is alot more then this I just can't think of it. I told him not to work on anything, he ends up costing us even more than it would have to start with. LOL

See kell, I know it is alot more men that mess up than women. Just like Tom, it really was his fault for not doing it in the first place.

My DH did not find me posting this on the web about him too funny.
The next holes dug for me and you both kell make be for our DHs to
plant us. Hope they don't hit any pipe or wire. Wouldn't that be
hilarious.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Are you sure you have pink hair? Blond dyed pink?

Kell,
Your starting to worry us! Where are you?

Must have had to go out to dinner tonight - no water.

Or to a hotel for a shower - lol

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

kell,
are you still alive ?

Emporia, KS(Zone 5b)

You guys have convinced me to call that number before I dig...lol...now to find out what that number is...

I wonder if they make soaker water main pipes. hahaha

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

OMG Kell. I am ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sorry about the expense though.

I did someting like that too when Tim and I first got married. We rented a place and I decided I was going to put in a small garden. I hand dug it all and when I was finishing the last row I noticed a cable. I thinking I am not going to have cable t.v. tonight. Boy was I wrong. Lets just say the whole neighborhood didn't have phone service till the next evening. Thank God I had the line repair service. Didn't cost me a dime.

I also chopped my sattelite line in half 3 months after installation planting a tree at my old place. Now that cost me big time. Can't be spliced so had to pay for 100' line, labor, and service call. Tim acted about like Tom lol

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Hmmm... just checking in to see if Kell is still with us. I'll get worried about noon tomorrow.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Oh my Kell! You're not having a good week so far!

Lewiston, CA(Zone 7b)

Yep! That's pretty funny, Kell. Sorry about the expense tho.
My DH is the one who does this type of thing. Mostly with the weedeater. We have an invisiable fence for our dogs & some of it lays on top of the gound & he has cut that mulitple times. In the same places. He cut down some Hollyhocks that come from 100 year old stock, twice! He just about wore my big metal watering can the second time. They did not come back up either. When he gets out the weedeater I get nervous!
I'll be working the backhoe this spring, I think I know where most of our water lines are!!! I hope! Bj

San Diego, CA(Zone 10a)

Not Again!! I am so sorry but it does make for quite a story. I am always paniced when swinging a pick at what is called dirt around here. So far I have been lucky. Hoping your earstwhile plumber gets you fixed up pronto.

Gardiner, ME(Zone 5a)

Kell,
You didn't run away with the plumber ,did You ?.... kidding aside .

How are YOU ? are you ok ? You haven't posted .

SE Arky, United States(Zone 8a)

Kell, I don't think your experience is unusual since I've done it any number of times. My solution is a rock, with water or gas or TV or, heaven forbid, electricity, which are marked by the company, all our lines underground. We've broken the water line so many times that I have all the material here and know how to fix it, not such a terrible job. The gas line was really scary; however, not long before it happened here, I saw a construction crew do the same thing, so I knew exactly who to call, by name, and he was here within minutes. We thought it was our fault but they told us, no, it was not marked and it was supposed to have been. Water is different, cause it's not so dangerous, but get you some rocks or small flags or draw yourself a map or tattoo it to your head, will make life easier. I hope all is back 'together', the water line, as well as you and Tom!!!

Kannapolis, NC(Zone 7b)

Kell, I've never dug a water, gas or electric line up but everytime I dig, I cut the electronic dog fence. It's been patched more times than I care to mention. LOL I'm getting to be a pro at splicing those wires.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Maybe she wasn't kidding about the header of this post.

Or she hit the electrical line now.

Mansfield, TX(Zone 8a)

Maybe she is having one of those "forgetful" moments. She will probably remember to check in eventually :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I AM FINE!! So sorry to worry you guys. Tom read Gayle's post and buried me in the hole and I just dug myself out. LOL Gayle, good one!!

It is so good to know so many have done similar things, repeatedly!!!! LOL I am not alone.

No, I was just so tired. It has been a tough week. Tom never said boo to me about it so I finally said to him "aren't you going to say anything?" and he started to laugh and said "OK, so just tell me how could you do it again. " Laughed more and gave me a big kiss! So I got off easy.

Yesterday I was at a friend's house (where I grow seedlings out) trying to get someone to help me load a 15 gallon brug in my car. It is a seedling that I just loved last year so I am planting it in my front garden. No one was moving in my direction. I said PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE help me, I have a big hole already dug for it. Well, everyone burst out laughing. Then we figured out that hole cost $175 for the original tree to be dug out, $350 for the first plumber, and then $280 for the second plumber. A total $805. Gosh that freaks me out. LOL

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

That seedling better bloom perfect with gold skirts!

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Kell you never fail to make me laugh!

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

She taught me a lesson .. I will always make sure to call Miss Digs before I decide to plant..I guess before I was just lucky that I did'nt meet up with a pipe...

I love you

It took me 10 minutes to stop laughing so I could type
Not sure I'm gunna be able to sleep cause everytime I think about it I start giggling.....

I had to show Dh this thread and the first one too. He is a bit more thankful that he hasn't had to call a plumber because of me.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Wow Sue, what an idea a pink brug with golden skirts. You better stop playing with daylilies long enough to make us one!!!

Hi Kristi. I sure miss you around here. And all your gorgeous pictures!!!

Loretta, I am glad I did some good. The real question is, have I learned the lesson??? LOL

I love you too CC. LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Way to go mg, great idea. I did tell Tom about Susie's neighbor who would drive thru her garage wall all the time. I thought it might make him grateful for what he ended up with. Me. It always could be worse. LOL

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I *might* have heard about this in chat this morning. Ahem. I want to tell you, this blonde is deadly afraid of two things: gas/electric lines and water lines. I neither want to explode nor be electricuted. i think either would make for a pretty darn bad day. Before I came digging at the new place with a bobcat and escavator, I had everything marked! Unfortunately....the paint has worn off the grass. Stay tuned. I could be you. LOL

Bloomingdale, OH(Zone 6a)

Tattletail!

Yes Kell, we were discussing your misfortune in chat. We were also discussing Tom's nomination for sainthood, lol.

We are all glad that we didn't have to make that second phone call, lol.

mg

Lincoln Park, MI(Zone 5a)

Kell I told my friend and she asked if you were still breathing...I think Tom might come out his retirement now,all you have to do is let him see you walking with a shovel..I marked my digging shovel *KELL*,it sure will help me remember...!!

Loretta...

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Chele, you are such a I CAN DO LADY, you put me to shame. I do not even know what a bobcat is.

Oh no, mg. Now everyone will know how dumb I am. LOL

But in the end, if you can laugh, things are not that bad at all. Better to laugh, not cry. And I do laugh a lot!!

Loretta, sadly my DH is in his busy time now. He is working 7days a week, 12 hour days. So he won't dig me any holes for awhile. But hopefully he will remember what I did come April when he will be around more. Then again, if he doesn't, I do remember where to dig again to remind him. LOL.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

still chuckling here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

Kell, if you are short on time and need a BIG hole, bobcat is the way to go. Now, I feel I can safely tell you that because I don't think you can get one into your yard. LOL You know, the utility companies will come out for FREE and mark all those lines before you dig (but it may not be as fun). I have to be "can do" because hubby is "can't move". LOL ((((KELL))))
